Sales Management CommentsSales Management CommentsWelcome to the 2nd Annual “Proudly Western” bull sale. This young group of breeders has made the commitment to call Whitewood home for their bull sale, and here they are again building a solid foundation for future sales. It was encouraging to see the support given to this sale last year and was a testament to the demand for good bulls raised by good people. It is not everyday you see such youth and enthusiasm in the cattle business. Support and encouragement are much deserved.

This year’s bulls are mostly Red and Black Simmental with a select group of Black Maines, again, to add some diversity. The largest group will again be from the “McCormack Family Ranch” based west of Grenfell. The breeding consistency of their walking herd bulls has strengthened their offering in 2008 and you will see a steady improvement in the future as sisters to these bulls become the back bone to this already powerful herd.“Prairie Wind” and “Diamond M” have increased their bull numbers with even more red and black Simmental bulls carrying the extra muscle and performance the commercial industry demands right now. Balancing explosive growth and their superior maternal benefi t, is the trade mark of Simmental, and as breeders they strive to improve their stock for your benefi t as future bull buyers.

“Calico Cattle Co.” and “Scissor Creek Cattle Co.” round out the original group members. These two outfi ts have also increased their numbers slightly with a signature set of red and black Simmental bulls. These are two outfi ts with close ties to the commercial business as they run large numbers of commercial cows or grass yearlings alongside the seed stock.

The “Proudly Western” group has added one more young enthusiastic Simmental breeder with “Johnson Stock Farms”. They have a couple of red Simmental bulls to offer and I strongly encourage you to take a serious look at them. Konleigh and his dad Lyall, have assembled a functional set of some 75 purebred Simmental cows to develop a future bull market, and I was proud to assist them sourcing cattle from some of the country’s top herds.

Welcome to our 2nd annual bull sale. Welcome to our 2nd annual bull sale. A big thank you to our customers who have shown confi dence in our program. It is your support that pushes us forward in the beef business. We are developing our bulls in a different manner than in years past at our new bull facility. The twenty-fi ve acre pastures that the bulls are in allow for a lot of movement. The bulls walk half a mile a day between feed, water and shelter. I truly believe that the bulls are showing more natural muscle expression and tone because of the extra space. Buy with confi dence knowing that these bulls will last a long time and will be able to cover a lot of ground in your pastures.

Our younger bull calves are always developed as two year olds. This year there are two strong black bulls available for your evaluation. In future years there will be greater numbers to choose from for those customers that need a bull to cover more cows.

I am dedicating this year’s sale of bulls to the memory of my dad, Bob Mantei, who passed away on November 3, 2007. He was the driving force that got this great cow herd started.
