The Wardrobe, Leeds v4_0

First opened in 1999, the Wardrobedescribes itself as a multi-functioningbar, kitchen, venue & events space in theheart of the Leeds Art Quarter. Upstairs isa bar and restaurant, which is openthroughout the day, while in the basementis a 460 capacity live venue hosting awide variety of live music, comedy andclub nights.

Keen to maintain its reputation as one ofthe top venues in Leeds, the Wardrobeinvited SSE Installations to upgrade thevenue’s ageing in-house PA system inlate 2016. From an initial site visit, SSESales Manager Ryan Thomas advisedthat an L-Acoustics ARCS WIFO systemwould be ideal for the venue's needs.

Ryan Thomas: “We mapped out thevenue in L-Acoustics Soundvision andspecified L-R hangs of one ARCS WIDEand one ARCS FOCUS per side with asingle centre L-Acoustics X8 as infill atthe front of the stage. We added a coupleof L-Acoustics X12s halfway down theroom to act as delays, with a further twoX8 cabinets providing coverage of thebar area.”

For sub bass, SSE installed two groundstacked L-Acoustics SB28s, one eitherside of the stage with an extra SB15 atthe rear of the room to ensure even

coverage throughout. The system ispowered by LA8 and LA4-X amplification.

Included in the package was an L-Acoustics monitor system; L-AcousticsX12 were supplied for wedges on stage,along with a further X12 with an L-Acoustics SB15 as a drum monitor.

SSE has supplied the system on acontract rental basis to the Wardrobe.This option provides the venue with afixed monthly cost and reduces the needfor a large upfront capital outlay.

Ryan Thomas commented, “Opting for acontract rental is great for venues as itallows them to budget in advance. Itenables them to have a top of the rangesystem that will be maintained by SSEthroughout the period of the rental. Wealso build in to the contract options tobuy, either during the rental period or atits conclusion.”

The Wardrobe installation was completedin just 5 days scheduled around a hecticgig diary. It was immediately put into usefor the large number of acts that passthrough the venue on a weekly basis.Wardrobe Manager Andy Smithcommented, “The bands that have usedthe system have been delighted with thesound. It’s a really rider-friendly packagewhich will mean we can continue toattract a high calibre of touring acts to theWardrobe.”
