Welcome Message
The Politzer Society has been contributing to otology and neurotology with the high scientific
level meetings for more than 30 years. By 2013 the Global Otology Research Forum will be
part of the Politzer Meeting and with this opportunity we expect hosting research sessions
besides the presentations of Politzer Society.
The theme of the Politzer Society Meeting is highlighted with the future of the projects and is
announced as: “Let`s talk the future of otology”. We had this particular issue in our minds while
elaborating the session topics and we believe that moderators who are running the sessions
will create brief messages to guide us all for the upcoming years. We have also planned various types of sessions such as
debates aimed to negotiate the most crucial matters; challenging dilemmas in order to find out better solutions; daily
otology sessions for attracting new ideas to our daily issues; evidence based otology sessions which reveal evidence to
develop further projects on treatment modalities; “how do I manage” sessions, as well as plenary sessions, panels, round
tables and mini lectures.
Along with research works submitted to GLORF, free paper and poster presentations will be available for reporting the
clinical studies. The abstracts will be published as a supplement to the Journal of International Advanced Otology. The
completed manuscripts will have the priority in peer-review and publication in the same Journal.
We are very pleased to announce that more than 250 distinguished otologists from all over the world accepted being
involved in the Faculty. Most of the sessions are already finalized. Still there may be slight changes in the scientific
program. The website content is going to have regular updates until the meeting and will provide you with the most
actual information.
November was specifically chosen for the meeting to take place due to a very busy Scientific Meeting Schedule in
2013. The timing allowed us to obtain exclusively flexible prices from luxury hotels which will serve as meeting venues.
Therefore participants will benefit from lower accommodation expenses. We are convinced that this meeting will
offer better conditions than ever.
We kindly recommend you to follow us via the Politzer Society website, Facebook and Twitter. The website of
the meeting is already online through the following link: www.politzer2013.org. It is also possible to access
www.facebook.com/politzer2013 and www.twitter.com/Politzer2013.
I am looking forward to welcoming you in November 2013 in Antalya, Turkey.

GLORF - Global Otology Research Forum
We are proud of having the privilege of organizing the first Meeting of GLORF - Global Otology Research Meeting in 2013.
Global Otologic Research Forum (GLORF) has been recently established with the contribution of leading societies in the field; The Politzer Society, The European Academy of Otology and Neurootology, American Otological Society, American Neurootology Society, Japan Otological Society, Korean Academy of Otology and British Society of Otology. The task has been to give the opportunity of presenting ongoing and recently finalized researches in the fields of otology and neurotology during the special sessions dedicated to GLORF.
We believe that 2013 GLORF Meeting will have great impact for the future of otology. With this opportunity, the new ideas will be presented to the minds for further projections. We reckon it will also help to improve knowledge and skills in otology for the future opinion leaders in otology throughout the world and establish networks among medical doctors responsible for research in otology, enabling them develop new ideas for geriatric health programs and harmonize practices.
We welcome the latest projects, basic and clinical research, to a discussion atmosphere to stimulate further thoughts, new ideas and share the experience to shed light on the new ideas which are the very purpose of this new project.
The inaugural event of GLORF will be a one-day meeting that will take place on November 13th, 2013 as part of 29th Politzer Society Meeting.
The scientific program of this first event will be built up with the contributions made by the representatives of founding societies. The main topics will be announced on the official website www.glorf.org as well as 29th Politzer Society Meeting website www.politzer2013.org .

CME ACCREDITATION
Continuing medical education (CME) consists of educational activities which serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that a medical practitioner uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession. Each country has various CME requirements for physicians who wish to maintain their licensure.
It is our observation that the regulations of each country on CME are different from others. In some countries CME accreditation is obligatory to carry on profession and in some even functional it is not a must for the medical professionals.
On the other side the accreditation offices such as “Accreditation Council on Continuing Medical Education - ACCME” and “European Accreditation Council for CME – EACCME” recently created strict regulations so that the meeting organizations should be much more accurate on planning the scientific program which will serve for the higher educational level with the participation of distinguished scientists. Eventually the meetings involved within the CME accreditation systems will have higher standards and quality with reliable learning objectives.
Accreditation Council on Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)
Valid in USA, and recognized by China, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, the Sudan, and the United Arab Emirates.
CME organizations as substantially equivalent to the ACCME’s accreditation system: the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada.
The American Medical Association (AMA) has an agreement of mutual recognition of continuing medical education (CME) credit with the European Union of Medical Specialties (UEMS). Under the terms of this agreement, the AMA will convert CME credit certified by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME), the accrediting arm of the UEMS, to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians (MDs, DOs or equivalent international degree) may have their EACCME credit converted to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ without any loss by applying to the AMA.
(The AMA will convert EACCME credit for approved live events to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit, without any loss – Please refer to the web pages:http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/2797.html and http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/14348.html
European Accreditation Council for CME (EACCME)
The EACCME is an institution of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS), www.uems.net. It is valid for all European Countries. Italy and UK have their own regulations.
European accreditation is granted in order to allow participants to validate the credits obtained at this activity in their home European country. Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
The conference organization will provide the European participants and European Accreditation Council for CME (EACCME) an official document showing the sessions that you are attended in hourly basis.

Rules for the Politzer Prize1. The organizer of the regular meeting of the Politzer Society shall include following announcements of the Politzer Prize in all
congress announcements: “Politzer Society will award 2 prizes of 1.000 Euros each to the best clinical and the best basic science paper, presented at the meeting by candidates not exceeding 40 years of age. A special abstract of 600 words, including the purpose, material, methods, results and conclusion should be send to the President of the Politer Society by e-mail (*), no later than 3 months before start of the meeting. At the same time a regular abstract has to be send to the congress organization”.
2. The judges are the Politzer Prize Committee, composed by the President, Past-President, Prof. Haruo Takahashi from Nagasaki and Prof. Alain Uziel from Montpellier.
The President shall send the blinded abstracts to the three other judges, asking them to propose (and rank by 1,2,3) the three best clinical and three best basic science papers, to be returned no later than 2 months before the meeting. In the following month the judges will communicate and select the six papers to be presented. The President shall, no later than 1 month before the meeting, inform the 6 selected speakers about the day and time of their presentations and ask for some documentation about the age. The judges can select 4 clinical papers and 2 basic science papers (and vice versa). If no good clinical papers are presented, the judges can award two good basic science papers and vice versa.
3. The organizer shall reserve a 90 minutes plenary session on the second day of the congress and announce it on the preliminary and the final program as “Politzer Prize Session”. The session is chaired by the President and the Past- president of the Politzer Society. The speaking time is 10 minutes, followed by 5 minutes discussion of each paper. In this way we may hope to make this session as an important scientific contribution to the meeting. After the session the 4 judges will find the two winners and the prices will be given at the congress banquet.
4. If there is the possibility of a conflict of interests among the judges, the President will appoint replacements from other members of the board.
5. The president and the past president shall elaborate a certificate.
(*) The candidates of Politzer Prize 2013 should sent their abstracts by online abstract submission system instead of by e-mail. The detailed information are given in “Abstract Submission Page”.
