NOVEMBER 2013
TIJOACHAN’S MESSAGE:
Dear St Jude family,
Praise Jesus and His Most Holy Mother! I hope and pray that all of you stay well
and remain in the Grace of God. There are a few things I’d like to share with you
this month:
1. Try selling all the raffle tickets you have received. We need to try our level best. I am confident
that with the powerful intercession of Saint Jude we will together sell all the 3000 raffle tickets.
2. We have more than 100 hundred families in our parish and over 125 children enrolled for CCD.
I encourage you not to miss a single day of CCD. Also, make it a habit to come to Saint Jude
every Sunday for Mass. Our Kerala chief minister Ommen Chandy is such a beautiful example
of his love for his parish church. It is a fact that wherever he is, he makes it a point to travel
back to his own parish for Sunday Mass. Such love and belonging to a parish is what we need
to grow. It is not enough that we go to any church for Mass, but we must come as one at our
Parish church. Saint Luke in the Acts of the Apostle (4: 32) says “they had one heart and one
soul”. So I request you all to please consider attending Mass at St. Jude every Sunday.
3. Lastly we need to make Saint Jude, a place where everyone sees the goodness of others. I
have seen people, who are able to stay away from all the evil, but they still fall for gossiping
and talking ill of others. Pope Francis exhorted us to stay away from this evil, even when we
think what we say or hear is true, because he says gossip is a dark joy. Sirach 19:10 says “If
you have heard a word against your neighbor, let it die with you”. Let us stop inquiring into the
life of others merely because of curiosity; this would only lead to discord and disunity among
us. The book of Proverbs 6:16 reminds us that there are six things God hates and another
thing which is an abomination to him which is a man who sows discord among brothers.
Let us all seek the gift of the Holy Spirit so that we may not knowingly or unknowingly become slaves of this dark joy but learn to encourage each other by seeing only good in everyone.
Once again, I encourage you all to be at Saint Jude every Sunday without exception. Let us ask the grace of God to make Saint Jude a Kingdom of God. May Good Lord bless you and hear your pray-ers.
Sincerely yours in Christ our King
Tijoachan

COMMUNITY UPDATES ROSARY MONTH
St. Jude community most joyfully celebrated October as the month
of the Most Holy Rosary. This year St Jude family dedicated the ro-
sary month to our Most Blessed Mother and her son our savior Je-
sus Christ by spending time in adoration at the St. Jude Rectory on
October 1, 2013. The Holy Hour started at 6:00 am and continued
with prayers, songs and rosary until 6:00 pm. Around 35 members
from our parish consisting of both adults, youth and kids joined in at
different interval for the Holy Hour in honor of our Blessed Mother
and her son our beloved friend Jesus. During the Holy Hour mem-
bers gathered before the Holy Eucharist prayed specially for peace
in every family in our parish and for the spiritual growth of our com-
munity. We would like to thank Shyla Joseph and Neena Mathew for
coordinating the Holy Hour beautifully.
Our kids from the kids ministry beautifully concluded our devotion to
our Blessed Mother by praying the rosary everyday at 9pm during the
last week of the Rosary month. This was coordinated by the members
of the kids ministry team through a conference call. On the very last
day i.e October 31st, the kids finally concluded the Rosary month cel-
ebrations by inviting everyone to join them for Rosary and Adoration
at 7pm at Corpus Christi Church. Kids
came in despite Halloween night to
spend time with our Blessed Mother
and before the Blessed Sacrament as a
sign of their love for the Lord. At the end
of the celebrations, Tijoachan also handed candies to our little kids to applaud
them for their love and devotion to our Lord. We thank the kids ministry team
for their unconditional love and dedication to instill the love of Jesus in the
hearts of these little kids.

We celebrated the feast of our patron saint this year on October 27, 2013 at St.
Andrew’s Lutheran Church. We began preparing for the feast day by reciting
the novena and venerating the relic of our patron saint for nine Tuesdays im-
mediately preceding the feast day. Our celebrations began on October 20,
2013 with Fr. Chathanatt hoisting the feast flag and the presudenti vazcha.
On the feast day, our
celebration began
with Ladeenju and
the Presudenti pre-
senting their offering
to church and samar-
panam of all our fam-
ily units by Tijo
Achan. This was fol-
lowed by the Holy Qurbana, which was most gra-
ciously celebrated by V. Rev. Msgr. Antony Thundathil
the Vicar General of St. Thomas Diocese of Chicago
along with Rev. Fr. Rijo Johnson, SDV and our misson
director Rev. Fr. Tijo Mullakara. Fr. Antony delivered a
beautiful sermon inspiring each one of us to grow in faith
and to trust in our Lord completely. Our kids who re-
ceived the First Holy Communion, earlier this year recit-
ed the Karosusa (prayer of the faithful) prayer in
Malayalam and English.
After the Qurbana, The celebrations was followed
by the Novena to St. Jude led by Fr. Rijo and Pra-
dakshinam accompanied by the Chendamelam
team from Baltimore. Beautiful church decoration by
WINGS, melodious songs by the Choir and meticu-
lous coordination by the liturgy team all added the
beauty of the day. (continued on page 5…)

Our celebrations continued with a very special movie
premier titled “Our Dream Church” starring our own
very St. Jude kids. Through this short movie the kids
shared with entire the community ideas about their
dream church. It was so great to see and understand
the beautiful dreams our kids hold. We thank Sherly
Dilip and Shaju Joseph for compiling this wonderful
documentary. Following the movie premier, Rev Fr. An-
tony inaugurated the St. Jude Library and encouraged
both parents and kids to enrich their life with the Catho-
lic resources in the library by sharing his own account
of how life's of Saints and other catholic resources con-
tinues to be a great source of inspiration in his life.
Last but not the least, Antony Achan, Rijo Achan and
Tijo Achan handed out the rolling trophy to the winners
of the St. Jude Annual Soccer Tournament - KIDILAN
SAINTS while congratulating the runners up team Avial
Heroes. Heartiest Congratulations to
KIDILAN SAINTS. Our feast day cel-
ebrations concluded with veneration
of St. Jude’s relic and a sumptuous
fellowship dinner organized by the
food committee members.
We would like to thank the families of
Mr. Tomy Paul and Mr. Sony K, our
Presudenti for this year, for sponsor-
ing the feast day celebrations for us.
We would also like to thank Rev.
Msgr. Antony Thundathil and Rev. Fr. Rijo Johnson for joining us in
celebrating St. Jude’s feast. We also sincerely thank all the committee
members and individuals who constantly worked to make this a memo-
rable day for everyone - WINGS for beautifully decorating the church,
all members who volunteered as ushers, the Choir for the beautiful
songs, the liturgy committee, the food committee, the Chendamelam
team, trustees, our dear Tijo Achan and all our parishioners who joined
in the celebrations. Thank you all once again for making this a beautiful
day to remember.

ST JUDE ANNUAL SOCCER TOURNAMENT
The 2nd Annual Soccer Tournament—St. Jude Sevens/Elevens was held this year on October 19, 2013
at Bryne Rigde park, Aldie with great enthusiasm. This annual soccer tournament is a intra parish tour-
nament held by our St. Jude Family units since last year and serves as a great platform not only to show
off some superior soccer skills but as a great time for community bonding. Members from the community
and our soccer players made the utmost use of the final days of summer by gathering at the soccer field
to witness the much awaited game for the year.
This highly contested event was a chance for the family units to show off their soccer skills and
community spirit, all with enough “dramatics” in pure “Malayalee” style. This year, the championship was
between the “Kidilan Saints” representing Ashburn/Leesburg/South Riding/Aldie and the “Avial Heoros”
representing Herndon/Gainseville/Centerville/Fairfax/ Alexandria and Woodbridge family units.
During this elevens game, “Avial Heroes” fought hard, but the “Kidilan Saints” prevailed in the
end, winning the match by a goal. The final score was Kidilan Saints (5) to Avial Heroes (4). After this
hard fought match, “Kidilan Saints” celebrated in style and took home the coveted trophy. The game
showcased many inspiring moments, enough to keep the supporters on their feet. Overall despite the
chill in the air, everyone enjoyed the very exciting match along with some delicious treats by women’s
wing and cheering by kids. Hearty congratulations to our champions—KIDILAN SAINTS. A special thanks
to the organizing committee for organizing the annual tournament. Special thanks to Rajesh joy for cap-
turing the game spirit in the pictures below.

St. Anthony od Padua is a well-known and loved saint in India and especially among Kerala
Catholics. We have a special love and devotion for this saint which is manifested in the many
churches and schools built all across Kerala under his patronage. Saint Anthony is known as the
patron saint for lost articles.
St Anthony was born in Lisbon, Portugal in the twelfth century to a well-to-do family. Against his
family’s wishes for him to do scholarly studies, at the age of 15, young Anthony joined the reli-
gious order of St. Augustine.
After ordination into priesthood, Anthony was living a life of prayer and quite as a friar when God
chose him to do greater things. Once Anthony was selected to give a speech to his fellow Friars.
Anthony filled with Holy Spirit gave a speech which created a great impression on his friends
and superiors. By seeing his potential, his superiors ordered Anthony to preach Gospel in North-
ern Italy. Here in Italy, St Francis Assissi, founder of the order came to know about St. Anthony,
his holiness and zeal for the Lord. From then on Anthony’s preaching skills were used for the
utmost use of the church. He was also a teacher for the young priests in the church. By the year
1231 He went to stay in a little town called Padua and preach there. Then onwards he was
known as Antony of Padua.
Anthony was a simple and humble friar who preached the Good News lovingly and with fearless
courage. His sermons was so popular that sometimes upto 30,000 people gathered to hear him
speak. Anthony spent so much energy on preaching word of God and teaching he became ex-
hausted and ill. He died from his illness at the young age of 36. He was a Franciscan friar for
about 10 years then.
The following year, Pope Gregory IX moved by the many miracles that occurred at St. Antho-
ny’s tomb, declared him a Saint. St. Anthony’s canonization was one of the fastest one in the
history of the church.
In 1946 Pope Pius XII officially declared St. Anthony a Doctor of the Universal Church.

St. Jude Library was officially inaugurated on our Feast Day October 27, 2013. The library at present hosts about
200 resources varying from books, DVD’s to audio CD’s both in Malayalam and English. The library will be open
shortly to the community.
Community members can contribute resources to the library in either of the two ways described below:
Resource Bank: Members can contribute catholic resources either books, DVD’s, audio CD’s etc., for a defined
period of time of their choice for use by our community members. At the end of this period the material will be
returned back to the generous parishioner.
Donations: Members can also contribute by either purchasing resources or donate cash for buying these re-
sources.
We also welcome anyone interested in helping with this small effort. Volunteers are needed to help maintain the
library catalog and ensure that books are circulated and collected back on time. If you have any suggestions
please do send them to TijoAchan or Sismi Menachery: [email protected].

Every Christian vigil derives it’s
meaning from the Christ’s tri-
umph over death, sin and evil.
By keeping nightly vigil until
dawn, we enter in to the paschal dynamic of
passing with Christ from darkness to light. Night
vigil will enhance the power of our prayers and
also strengthen our relationship with God. Night
vigil will help us tackle the challenges that toss
us like giant sea waves, break the bonds of Sa-
tan and become free from other magical powers
of evil spirits in our life.
Please join us for night vigil on 3rd Friday. The
vigil begins with mass in Corpus Christi Church
at 7:30 pm on all third Fridays. The mass will be
followed with Adoration of the Blessed Sacra-
ment and ends at 5:00 am with Holy Mass.
