Spiritual Life
Christian spirituality is not one dimension of the Christian life, it IS Christian life. For more information contact Kathleen Messina at [email protected]
PENTECOST SUNDAY Come Holy Spirit come! For weeks we’ve heard about Jesus’ promise that another Ad-vocate would come, the Spirit of Truth. Certainly that was the faith-filled hope of the disci-ples when Jesus ascended out of their sight. Come Holy Spirit come!
The Holy Spirit found Mary, the Apostles, and the other disciples in a familiar place—the Upper Room, the Cenacle. It was the place of the Last Supper, the room where Jesus first appeared in their midst after the Resurrec-tion. Now the disciples had gone there together after the Ascension to pray. It was a place they kept returning to. It took time. The disciples’ willingness to follow Jesus outpaced their capacity to grasp everything He was teaching and entrusting them with. But together, rather than scattered, in the Upper Room they could remember and grow and accept God’s grace. With each successive visit to the Upper Room, they more deeply understood Jesus’ call to them and looked forward with more confidence to His promises. So when the Holy Spirit came they were ready. Gathered and ready, with noise and hovering tongues of fire, they were filled with the Holy Spirit. It was pure gift, but like all the graces God bestows on us, it was meant to be shared. Emerging from the Upper Room, the disciples immediately began to proclaim the wonders of the Lord in a way that everyone could understand. As Catholic Christians we also know that it is essential that we come together as members of the Body of Christ to praise God and to be sent forth just like the first disciples. St. Angela Merici Catholic Church is our Upper Room. But our access to the very place we should gather to be lift-ed from our distress and strengthened in our faith has been restricted and fear prevails. Who could have imagined such a thing? Are you surprised then by the confusion, the anxieties, and paralysis? Don’t forget however that you have a private Upper Room where the Lord speaks to your heart, where His Spirit consoles and inspires you. It is the best place to distinguish between what leads to greater love and community and that which destroys both. The Advocate will reveal the way for all of us to gather together again in our Upper Room. It takes time. Come Holy Spirit, come! kathleen⁺AMDG⁺
TAKE IT TO HEART The miracle is this: The Power to change things is closer to you than you are to yourself. The Pentecost gospel declares that inside of you is a Fire just waiting to
spread. That Spirit within you makes it possible for you to love with something of the fire where-with God loves. –Walter Burghardt, S.J. in a homily on March 11, 1998 at Our Lady of Victory Church in Washington, D.C.

PARISH AND COMMUNITY LIFE
Our church theme this year is RENEWAL…
Renewal of our Faith, Renewal of our Church Family and Renewal of the Sacraments
L M The members of St. Angela’s Legion of Mary (Mother of Mer-cy Praesidium), a group under Family Life Ministry, participate in the life of the parish as directed by the pastor. Every legionary is required to carry out a weekly apostolic work such as: Pilgrim Vir-gin Visitation, distributing Holy Communion to home-bound and assistant living facilities, and the County Jail, monthly Novena Coordination, catechists, Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW), leading the prayer of the rosary at wakes and churches,
crafting rosaries for distribution, etc. They maintain the Blessed Mother Statue located in the Narthex.
During the Corona Virus Pandemic, they continue to monitor those who are homebound by calling them and attending to their spiritual and physical needs as best as possible. They also continue to pray monthly Novenas, the Le-gion Tessera (prayers), and reciting the daily rosary. Some of the members participated in the Progressive Rosary held Tuesday, May 12th. Their online evangelization has continued uninterrupted.
They have a large group of auxiliary members who are the praying wing of the Legion army. If you would like to be part of the Legion of Mary, you are welcome to join as soon as they meet again or contact Diana Valle whose email is found below. In the meantime, please consider joining them by praying the monthly novenas. Their Novena to the Ho-ly Spirit started Friday, May 22nd and ended May 30th. https://www.praymorenovenas.com/novena-to-the-holy-spirit Their Praesidium is under the guidance of their spiritual directors, Father Joy and Kathleen Messina. IMPORTANT CONTACT INFORMATION
In light of the most recent sex abuse scandal, I would urge anyone who has experienced sexual assault or har-assment by ANYONE in the church to come forward. Where the incident may rise to the level of a crime, please also contact local law enforcement. Contact information for the Archdiocesan Victims Assistance Coordinator, Diane Vines; [email protected] or 713-654-5799.
Imposter priest email/texting scams In recent months, there have been numerous reports in Texas of in-dividuals impersonating a parish priest and soliciting do-nations – normally in the form of gift cards – from mem-bers of their congregation. The Texas Attorney issued a related consumer alert in regards to these scammers. In an effort to minimize the impact of these fraudulent actions, pastors are encouraged to remind their membership that priests/churches would never make such appeals to the parish community. Please ad-vise parishioners to notify the church office immediately if they receive any unfamil-iar donation requests.
Those interested in celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony, please contact
Alicia Quintanilla at the parish office at 281-778-0400.
Engaged couples should begin planning 9-12 months prior to the anticipated wedding date to begin the marriage
preparation process.
Baptism Preparation
During this time PLEASE contact the parish office for more information on
scheduling your child’s baptism at 281-778-0400. Next baptism class is
Monday, June 15th at 7pm.

Most merciful and Triune God, We come to you in our weakness. We come to you in our fear. We come to you with trust. For you alone are our hope.
We place before you the disease present in our world. We turn to you in our time of need.
Bring wisdom to doctors. Give understanding to scientists. Endow caregivers with compassion and generosity. Bring healing to those who are ill. Protect those who are most at risk. Give comfort to those who have lost a loved one. Welcome those who have died into your eternal home.
Stabilize our communities. Unite us in our compassion. Remove all fear from our hearts. Fill us with confidence in your care.
Jesus, I trust in you. Jesus, I trust in you. Jesus, I trust in you. Amen.
