See you at

the Parish

Picnic!

Today is the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time and the last of five Sundays this month. The Responsorial Psalm is “The hand of the Lord feeds us; he answers all our needs.” (Psalm 145:10-11, 15-16,17-18). This Gospel from John about the loaves and the fishes is one of my favorites. Could you ever plan dinner for 5000? I al-ways say men are the best cooks. This arrived in my e-mail just a few weeks ago, and I think it fits with this Sunday in ways everlasting.

A CHURCHGOER (e-mail author unknown)

A churchgoer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday: “I’ve gone for 30 years now,” he wrote, “and in all that time I have heard something like 203,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can’t remem-ber a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time, and the Pastors are wasting theirs by giving ser-mons.”

This started a real controversy in the “Letters to the Edi-tor” column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher. “I’ve been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But for the life of me, I can-not recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals, but I know this. They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work and help raise a family. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead to-day!”

When you are down to nothing, God is up to something! Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and re-ceives the impossible! Thank God for our physical and spiritual nourishment!

Remember, “When Satan is knocking at your door, simply say, “Jesus, could you get that for me?” Have an awesome week, and keep your faith alive in all you say and do. Serving Him Together, Barb A.

Miss Me—But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me,

I want not rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little—but not too long And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love we once shared.

Miss me—but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take, And each must go alone.

It’s all a part of the Master’s plan, A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart Go to the Friend we know, And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.

Miss me—but let me go. In Loving Memory of

Our Faithful Departed

July 28 - 29, 2012 Dear Parishioners, Summer projects are moving along, and thanks to our maintenance crew and Mr. Tom Gray, our Preschool and Kindergar-ten rooms will soon have clean, fresh, safe vinyl tile. Each summer, we try to remove some of the badly stained and "rippling" carpet in rooms used by our youngest students. I also thank all who contributed to the "Paint Fund," headed up by Mr. and Mrs. Serba. Volunteers will paint hallways and entranceways in order to make our school more welcoming. DONNA'S DICTIONARY: "Volunteers" are the back-bone of every Catholic Parish and School. They give freely of their time to supervise children at lunch, run fundraisers, help children with reading and math skills, and attend countless meetings. Volunteers help us S-T-R-E-T-C-H our budget dollars and do NOT have to have children in school. Tuition covers salaries and benefits; all other expenses come from the parish funds. Volunteers make things happen which might not other-wise be able to occur without their donation of time, dedication, and expertise. Such a group of volunteers will help spruce up the classrooms and hallways of our tired old building. Call the school or parish office if you would like to help in any way. Remember, when you give your time to the Church, the pay is not there, but the retirement benefits are "out of this world." The school office is open each day from 8:00 a.m.-Noon. We will begin regular hours (7:30-3:00) on Monday, August 6 2012. Our Preschool is filled, but we are accepting registra-tion for Grades K-5. Encourage your neighbors and friends to come for a tour and learn why St. Ann School is Catholic, Excellent, and Vital. School opens for Pre-K through Grade 8 on Thursday, August 23, 2012. We will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. on that day. Back-To-School-Night is Thursday, August 30, so mark your calendars! God bless you and your loved ones, Donna Lamoureux

TRIP Notes You can continue to earn St. Ann School and Religious Education tuition credits all summer long with TRIP, and our second July order date is already upon us! We will be processing orders on Monday morning, July 30, so your forms need to reach us by then. R.E. families must sub-mit their orders to the Parish Office. School families may do the same, or you can leave them in the box marked TRIP in the Narthex. If you choose to use the box, please be sure your order is in there no later than 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 28. Also, please pay by check only, as we cannot be held responsible for cash payments.

You may pick up your TRIP orders in the Parish Office any time after 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1. The office’s hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Your next opportunity to order this summer will be August 12. If you have any questions, please contact Judy Rogala at 708.895.3852 or Denise Johnson at 708.474.8626.

Our airplane has returned! You may remember that some months back our plane had an unfortunate crash dur-ing a windstorm and sus-tained some damage. We would like to thank Dennis Valade from Valade Heating & Cooling of Lansing for the transportation, Collision Re-pair of Muster for repairing the plane, and parishioner Don Beese for fixing the mounting.

Last week, the Lansing Public Works Department also helped us put together the top of our flag pole, which had been damaged in bad weather as well. Thank you LPW!
