Christ by reaching out to serve all, and by sharing our joy and hope, as we continue our faith journey. May our lives, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and nourished by the Eucharist, bear witness to our love for neighbors near and far.

Father Scott’S thoughtS:
As you read this, I am either preparing for, or amid, the return trip from my first-ever pilgrimage to Italy. What a
blessing it has been that my sister Lynne, who has lived with her family in Madrid, Spain for over 25 years flew to
Rome and joined me for the pilgrimage. The first part of the pilgrimage had us in Naples, Sorrento, San Giovanni
Rotondo, Loreto, and Assisi. This all led to several days in Rome. I look forward to telling you all about. Please
know that I have prayed for you throughout the pilgrimage.
Though my first day as pastor of the parishes in Cohasset and Hull is Monday, I suspect I will be dealing with some jet lag and moving.
How appropriate that our journey together begins with Ash Wednesday and the great season of Lent! In addition to the two Masses and
two prayer services in the parishes of the collaborative, I plan to be at the T station in Cohasset for the 9:04 a.m. (and maybe 8:04!)
departure and the ferry in Hull for the 4:55 and 6:05 p.m. arrivals to offer the ashes and distribute parish bulletins and Holy Week
information.
Lent is the great season with two priorities: repentance and baptism. Those who are not yet baptized enter final preparations for Baptism,
Confirmation, and Eucharist. We who are baptized devote ourselves to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving and embrace a spirit of repentance
as we prepare to renew our baptismal promises. For those of us baptized as infants, the Easter renewal of baptismal promises is the
opportunity to make an intentional decision to add our “I do” to the “I do” voiced by our parents and godparents long ago.

LIVE LENT HOME PROGRAM “Lent is a new beginning, a path leading to the certain goal of Easter, Christ’s victory over death. This season urgently calls us to conversion. Christians are asked to return to God with all their hearts, to refuse to settle for mediocrity and to grow in friendship with the Lord. .” –Pope Francis For those who are not able to join a small group but would like to participate in some way, we will offer a Home Program to Live Lent! Based on the small group program, the following directions will guide the Live Lent Home program. And each week, the daily readings and prayer will be highlighted here.
***********************************
Directions for the Home-Program Have a bible, small notebook or journal, and commit to a time each day to Live Lent!
Read the citation given for each day. Take time to sit quietly with the reading and let it fill your
thoughts, finding a word, phrase or image to connect with and open your heart to hear God’s response.
Using your journal, make note of what emotion comes to the surface – are you angry with someone? Hurt by someone? Is someone ill? Do you need to change a bad habit? Where is God in your life? Do you want to be kinder? These are just examples of things that may come to the forefront as you ponder the gospel. Note in your journal how you will respond – in thought, through action, or prayer.
End with the prayer.
BEGIN YOUR LENTEN JOURNEY:
Ash Wednesday: Read Joel 2:12-18
Prayer: Lord Jesus, give me the courage to witness to my faith in
gentle and respectful ways. I pray for the grace to
devote my whole heart to you through the power of the
Holy Spirit. Amen
Thursday After Ash Wednesday: Read Luke 9:22-25
Prayer: Lord Jesus, give me the grace to lose myself in you, so I
can become a more loving person. Help me choose each
day to do the loving thing, no matter what it costs me,
and so come to know abundant life in you. Amen
Friday After Ash Wednesday: Read Matthew 9:14-15
Prayer: Lord Jesus, your Word is the only food that will satisfy
my hungry heart. Give me your grace to enter into a
true fast this Lent. Through prayer and fasting, may my
unruly self be refocused on Your will and Your way.
Help me to grow in my willingness to practice charity.
Amen
Saturday After Ash Wednesday: Read Luke 5:27-32
Prayer: Almighty God, you have made your will clear,
proclaiming it in the Commandments and in the teaching
of your Son, Jesus Christ. Help me to live thoughtfully,
trying always to make my decisions and choices with
your will as my guide and accepting my penitence when I
do not. Amen
