THE ROLE OF THE CHRISTIAN FAMILY FORMING A COMMUNITY OF PERSONS Men as Husbands and Fathers
Pope John Paul II shares a beautiful thought, “A man should live a very special form of personal friendship with his wife, gentle and strong, like that of Christ for the Church.” Love for his wife as mother of their children and love for the children themselves are a man’s way of understanding and fulfilling his own fatherhood. Efforts need to be made to restore the conviction that the place and task of the father in the family is of irreplaceable importance. The father’s absence from the family causes psychological and moral imbalances in relationships. In contrast, the oppressive presence of a father with a sense of wrong superiority of male prerogatives humiliates women and inhibits the development of healthy family relationships.
In reliving the very fatherhood of God, a man is called upon to ensure the harmonious development of all the members of the family. By a solicitous commitment to education, by work that promotes the family’s stability, and by witness of an adult Christian life, the father introduces the children into the living experience of Christ and the Church. The Rights of Children In the family special attention must be devoted to the children by developing esteem for their personal dignity. This is true of every child, but more urgent for the smaller the child and the one more in need because of sickness or handicap. The Church must reveal anew in history the commandment of Christ, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” The Pope reminds us of what he said at the United Nations on October 2, 1979, where he expressed the joy that all find in children, the springtime of life, the anticipation of the future. He expressed a concern for the child that all should have, even before birth, from the first moment of conception. He said that this was the fundamental test of the relationship of one human being for another. He said that he could not express a better wish for every nation, for all the children of the world, than that they have a future in which respect for human rights would be a complete reality The Elderly in the Family There are cultures that manifest a unique veneration for the elderly where they continue to take an active part in family life. Above all they are important witnesses to the past and a source of wisdom for the future. Other cultures may set aside the elderly in unacceptable ways. Yet, the life of the aging helps to clarify human values and to show the continuity of generations. How many children have found understanding and love in the eyes, the words and the caresses of the aging.

Social Concerns ministry — Box of Joy
Box of Joy “Cross Catholic Outreach” Join St. Bartholomew and the
Social Concerns Committee to donate a “Box of Joy” for a needy child this Christmas!
Managed through our parish partner,
“Cross Catholic Outreach”, we will help spread Christmas joy to children in impoverished countries. We are serving as the Katy-area drop off location for
participating parishes and have set a goal of donating at least 300 Boxes of Joy.
Here is how you can help;
1. Simply choose the age range and gender of the child you're gifting. 2. There is a list of suggested items (relatively inexpensive items) to donate inside each box. 3. You can pick up a box and instruction brochure in the church office starting on October 7 through November 10 during office hours or after Mass the weekends of October 20 and October 26 & 27. Last day to drop off is November 10.
Will you please consider donating a “Box of Joy” for a needy child (which might be the first gift a child in need might receive)? Thank you and God bless you
for your help! Contact us with any questions at [email protected].
Each child who receives a “Box of Joy” also receives a booklet in their own language that tells the story of
Jesus. This a spiritual gift of love in the name of Christ. For more info check out www.boxofjoy.org.
cualquier preguntaen [email protected].
www.boxofjoy.org.
