The net proceeds from the 2019 St. Benedict Community Festival was $35,749. Thank you to all who attended, volunteered, and donated. This was the third most profitable festival we have hosted, and we had more community participation than any other year.

We look forward to 2020!!

Please be generous in this week’s special collection,

which supports the Catholic Campaign for Human

Development. In the United States, one in six people

live in poverty. Through this collection you support

programs that address the causes of poverty and

provide a sustainable future for people across the

country who struggle. In addition 25% of the funds we

collect will remain in our diocese to fund local

antipoverty projects. Please prayerfully consider how

you can support this and work on the margins. More

information about the Catholic Campaign for Human

Development can be found at:

Syria. Since the multi-sided Syrian war began in 2011, more than half of the

population has been uprooted from their homes, with 5.1 million Syrians

fleeing to neighboring countries. Within the country, life expectancy

among Syrians has dropped by more than 20 years, while school attend-

ance has dropped more than 50%. Four out of five Syrians live in pov-

erty. Reports put the number of people killed during the war at more than

500,000, and many monitoring groups have quit counting. Since 2012, CRS

has worked closely with our partners across the region to support Syrian

refugee families, adapting programming and assistance to meet their

evolving needs—from emergency shelter, medical assistance and food

supplies to education, counseling and livelihoods support. Recognizing that

Syrian refugee families—particularly the children—need comprehensive

support to prepare for life after the conflict, CRS has invested significantly

in education, counseling, life skills, and specialized emotional and social

care. Learn more at: crs.org/Syria.

PRAYER FOR PEACE IN SYRIA’

GOD OF COMPASSION, Hear the cries of the people of Syria. Bring healing to those suffering from the violence, bring comfort to those mourning the dead. Strengthen Syria’s neighbors in their care and welcome for refugees, convert the hearts of those who have taken up arms, and protect those committed to peace. God of Hope, Inspire leaders to choose peace over violence and to seek reconciliation with enemies, Inspire the Church around the world with compassion for the people of Syria, and give us hope for a future of peace built on justice for all. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, for ever and ever. Amen.
