Students are encouraged to manage their time and activities to make exam preparation a priority. The basics such as a good night’s sleep and a good breakfast on exam day can really help students focus and do the best they can. If possible, please use the exam chart to plan appointments or other times when your child may not be at school. Designated city transit and specialized school bus transportation will be leaving the school at the 11:00 am daily during exam times (except Wednesday, June 20th at 12:00 pm). The last day of classes for all students is on June 28th. Students will be dismissed at 2:50 pm with their Progress Report. The last day of school will include a liturgy in the morning and award ceremony in the afternoon. If your child is not attending that day, please let the office know for attendance purposes. We ask that you provide the office with a large (8 ½ X 11) self-addressed stamped envelope (please provide 2 stamps) so that your child’s progress report can be mailed to your home address. No progress reports will be sent home before June 28, 2018.

National Indigenous History Month June is National Indigenous History Month, a month for all Canadians to celebrate the heritage, diversity and achievements of First Nations, Métis and Inuit through events and celebrations across our country and province. We are invited to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21st each year. While June is the national month of celebration, St. Bonaventure School will be celebrating on Friday, June 15th with special guests. These guests will share with our community; traditional dancing and cultural celebrations with some of our students.

Spring Fine Arts Gala- June 7th A big thank to the students and their families that attended our Spring Fine Arts Gala on June 7th. The event was a wonderful showcase of our Art, Drama and Band programs. Appreciation goes to Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Zydek and Mrs. Reid, for their efforts in getting our students prepared for the event. Without the continued support of our school community, events like the Spring Gala would not be possible.

Learning Commons (Library) Update

As move towards June, we are getting our Learning Commons tidied up. Here are some important dates and reminders for the weeks ahead.

By date:

31 May – Last day to borrow from the Learning Commons for students

14 June – Please have all of your Learning Common books returned

Learning Commons Commotion:

“It’s getting close to the end of the year St Bonaventure students! Notices are going home this week.

Please check the bottom of your back packs, the back of your lockers, and under your beds for those overdue library books!”

Volunteers Needed! Textbook return is a big job and we could use some assistance with the process on the following days: 20, 22, 25, 26 and 27 June to collect, inspect and do minor repairs. Please contact Tricia MacKinnon, LC Librarian, at [email protected] if you can help out.

Thank you

Building Meaning for ‘Falcons’

As part of our school initiative to build our school culture, we are attempting to recognize students for their contributions to our school community. Using the word 'FALCONS', we are asking our students, staff and parent community to contribute possible meanings for each individual letter of the word. Using these individual words, we are planning on focusing on these individual virtues on a rotating basis to recognize distinct attributes and qualities. Please take a moment to share your request for possible meaning for each letter. Our goal is have these attributes ready for September. Thanks in advance for your support.

Grade 9 Farewell – June 15th, 2018 June will be here soon and we are busy planning the Grade 9 Farewell. St. Bonaventure will be hosting a Farewell Liturgy at 5:00 p.m. at St. Bonaventure Church for students, staff, family and friends.

As a staff we hope to make this a meaningful celebration for your child with the presentation of certificates and a mass for the students. We remind students that this is not a graduation but rather a farewell from junior high school. We also ask that students dress in appropriate attire for a church. We ask that there be no bare shoulders during mass. An appropriate shawl or sweater must be worn in the church. No jeans, shorts, tank tops or flip flops.

CSSD Stamps night! On Saturday June 16th, the Calgary Stampeders will be playing the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for their Season Opener at 5PM. At half-time, St. Bonaventure Falcons’ grade 8 flag football team has been asked to play flag football against another CCSD school.

This is a great opportunity for our school and we encourage our school community to come out and cheer on our students. Attached in our newsletter is information about how to get discounted tickets for the game and how your purchase can be a fundraiser for our school community. Also, is a link you can use to buy tickets directly.
