Dear Friends,

I'm hoping and praying you had a blessed

Thanksgiving.

This very weekend we begin our new liturgi-

cal year. Advent has arrived and these four brief weeks will

pass by all too quickly. Our faith communi#es know that as

we cluster together we are two separate parishes with one

pastor. That being said, we know we have been sharing

common Pastoral Staff for some #me and enjoying various

gatherings of spiritual life.

This year, because of #ming, each faith community has

developed its own theme for Advent/Christmas. The

Church of the Transfigura#on is focusing on a theme of

"Faith, Hope, Love and Peace" over the these four weeks.

Saint Catherine of Siena chose the theme "Hope & An#ci-

pa#on, Forward In Faith". Both faith communi#es' themes

will express the an#cipa#on and direc#on where we will go

forth in the graces of our Christmas!

All our beloved individuals who will be preaching over

these weeks will gi2 us wherever we are worshipping with

good news. I am confident that the most important theme

we will be expressing is the love of Jesus Christ and His

promise of eternal salva#on for all who desire this gi2.

I an#cipate as we all move forward in faith we might have

common themes . Our separate iden##es are important,

but let us remember we are one church. We will prayerfully

bring before one another the goodness of our communi-

#es. I realize every day how fortunate Saint Catherine of

Siena and the Church of the Transfigura#on is because of

our shared faith, mission and beliefs in Jesus Christ.

Please be sure to check out all the Advent opportuni#es we

have in our bulle#ns.

Do come and see/hear Dr. Sr. Barbara Moore who will

address this beau#ful Advent season beginning this

Saturday at 10 AM at Saint Catherine of Siena. See my

bulle#n ar#cle last week about details or look within this

bulle#n for further informa#on.

Looking forward to this #me with each of you. Please let

me know what I can do to help you "stand up for a

Halleluiah moment of joy"!!!

Blessings,

Father Rob

DECEMBER ROSARY

This Wednesday December 1st Laura and

Clyde Cutter invite you to join them in the

Chapel or on FaceBook-Live to pray the

Rosary.

We are grateful to Laura and Clyde for

leading us in this Rosary Prayer this past year.

Beginning in January, Deacon Jim Carra will return for

our monthly Rosary and Benediction in the Chapel.

First Sunday of Advent Prayer

God of Hope and Anticipation,

do not let our hearts become drowsy,

as we prepare to celebrate the Incarnation

of Your Son, Jesus, the Christ.

May we move boldly Forward in Faith,

to go where we have never gone before.

Awaken our hearts to move beyond the

wishful and limited horizon of our own

concerns into a space that offers new perspectives.

Enable us to travel beyond ourselves to cultivate

the true Hope of this Advent Season as

we ‘Lift our soul, to You, O Lord’. Amen.

Annual Mi t ten Tree

Our Annual Mitten Tree Collection happens the weekends of

November 27/28; December 4/5 and December 11/12.

Donated items will go to Hope Hall & Matthew’s Closet.

Hope Hall is a school for students marginalized by the traditional

education system due to specific learning challenges. The majori-

ty of these children ( grades 3 thru 12) are in situations of pov-

erty. Your donations of warm mittens, winter hats, scarves and

warm socks can be left at the Mitten Tree in the area near the

Chapel.

Matthew’s Closet is a clothing ministry located in Inner-City

Rochester for those in need of clothing and small household

items. Referrals are made by Catholic Family Center and other

local agencies. Your donations of warm hats, gloves and socks

for adults, as well as pillow, sheets and towels can also be left at

the Mitten Tree.

The Clothing Shed is temporarily closed, however, if you have

winter coats, especially for men, those can be left at the Mitten

Tree as well. T H A N K Y O U !

Thanksgiving Food Appeal

Many thanks to all who

donated gift cards and other

items. We were able to help

28 local families with their

Thanksgiving dinners.

Matthew's Cloth ing Shed

Temporari ly Closed as of November 15 , 2021

Due to the ongoing impact of Covid, Matthew's Closet is having

"supply chain" problems: fewer referral clients and shoppers, too

much inventory, and fewer volunteers, both at the Closet to sort

the items and at the referring agencies. We have reluctantly

closed the St. Catherine's Donation Collection Shed for

Matthew's Closet to give the Closet time to reorganize & manage

their inventory & volunteers. We hope to reopen the Shed soon.

In the meantime, the St. Catherine's Christmas appeal needs gen-

tly used clothing and linens. Those items can be dropped off at

the Schnacky Center Dec. 18, before & after Mass and Sunday,

Dec. 19, 9:00-6:00. Thank you so much for your support.

Christmas Gift & Food Appeal

The children’s needs and wishes can be found

on St. Catherine’s Gift Appeal Registries.

(Amazon & Target) . Direct links to the

registries are located on the St. Catherine’s

Website. Feel free to browse and purchase items of your

choice. Your items will be shipped directly to Sally

Whitbeck's & Phyllis Hagen’s homes so you won’t need to

drop them off at St. Catherine's. We will shut the

registries down by Dec 8th allowing for shipping time.

Fiftynine local children are in need of help.

The Christmas Food Appeal will be the same as Thanks-

giving. Each family will receive a gift card to purchase

items for their Christmas dinner. Families favorite places

to shop are: The Marketplace, Aldis, Wegman’s &

Walmart. Please place your gift cards in an envelope

marked “Christmas Food Appeal.” You may drop gift

cards in the collection baskets in church or in the locked

drop box outside the Parish Office. You may also donate

to the Good Samaritan Fund on our website and we will

purchase the gift cards. Donations need to be dropped

off by Dec 19th. We are hoping to provide 28 families

with their Christmas dinners.

We will also be taking donations of adult and children’s

boots, shoes, coats, hats, mittens, etc. Especially need-

ed are Men’s winter coats and bed linens in King &

Queen sizes. Towels & kitchen linens are also desper-

ately needed. Drop off for these items can be made be-

fore and after Masses the weekend of Dec 18/19 at the

Community Center. Local families may choose items when

they come for Christmas pickup.

We will need volunteers to help sort these items on Sun-

day Dec 19 & Monday Dec 20th 9am6pm. Contact Phyllis

or Sally ([email protected]) if you can help or

have questions.

The annual Hope Hall Woodworking Sale will take place on

Saturday, December 11th from 9am—3pm in the School Gym,

1612 Buffalo Road.

You will find a wide assortment of handcrafted furniture, toys, décor

and more. Selected additional vendors will also be on site with

assorted craft and holiday items.

Proceeds support Hope Hall Woodworking Program which provides

students with diverse career skills for the work force.

Please note, masks are required.

Come spend some time with Deacon Jim beginning

November 30th for “5 Ws of Our Catholic Faith Living

in Hope.” A gathering of faith seeking parishioners who

will read about and discuss topics relating to their faith and

the Catholic Church. The group will meet every Tuesday

at 7 p.m. at St. Catherine’s for 5 consecutive weeks in the

Teen Center. What we will discover is Who is God asking

to bring hope to the world, What is hope, Where do you

find deeper faith, When is God’s grace and mercy most

present to us and Why is hope such an integral part of our

faith? So come join Deacon Jim in this wonderful journey

of knowledge seeking. For more information contact

Deacon Jim at [email protected] or 314-0807.

Church Cleaners!!!!

We are blessed with the stewards who clean

our worship spaces and other areas with a

“Mr. Clean ” sparkle! And of course we

recognize all folks in all positions of life!

Saint Catherine of Siena has a seasonal group of stewardship who

goes throughout the worship space and beyond to make it “Mr.

Clean” sparkle as well.

Last Saturday, Laurie Cook, Binnie Duval, Bob Goldbach, Bill Hulbert,

Sharon Hurley, Marilyn Littlejohn, Charlene Merrill, John Nieznanski,

Ruth Perrin, Nancy Pool, Joan Wallance, Yvonne Wambach, Kelly

Wise, Liam Wise, Chris Monaghan, Jan Cleveland and Jim Cleveland

went from ceilings to floor, from rafters to cracks and crannies “so to

speak” to make Saint Catherine’s shine.

Again, God bless our stewards who are generous with their time!!!

Last week I mentioned our garden ministries who would like some

added help. I heard this past weekend at Transfiguration with our

garlic sale that every year there is an invitation to help in our commu-

nity garden. No one has ever offered to help. Interesting. No one?

Just some thoughts and much gratitude!

AS I often say, when you see these stewards who care for our

environment and beyond, please thank them! ~Fr. Rob
