PRAYER AGAINST PLAGUES V. Deal not with us, Lord, according to our sins. R. And take not vengeance on us because of our misdeeds. V. Help us, O God, our Deliverer. R. And for Thy name’s sake, O Lord, free us. V. Remember not, O Lord, our sins of old. R. Hasten to us with Thy compassion, for we are become

exceeding poor. V. St. Sebastian, pray for us. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. V. O Lord, hear my prayer. R. And let my cry come unto thee. V. The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit. Let us pray. Vouchsafe to hear us, O God, our only salvation! And through the intercession of the glorious and blessed Mary, Mother of God, and ever Virgin, of Thy blessed martyr, Sebas-tian and of all the saints, deliver Thy people from the terrors of Thy wrath, and restore their confidence by the outpouring of Thy compassion. Be moved to pity, O Lord, at our earnest entreaties, and heal the illness of body and soul; so that experiencing Thy for-giveness we may ever rejoice in Thy blessing. We beseech thee, O Lord, grant us a hearing as we devoutly raise our petitions to Thee and graciously turn away the epi-demic of plague which afflicts us; so that mortal hearts may recognize that these scourges proceed from Thine indignation and cease only when Thou art moved to mercy. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigned with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

COLLECTIONS Next week we will have a second collection for the Cath-olic N.Y. paper. Once again, thank you to all who have been able to send in their tithing. It is needed and sin-cerely appreciated.

CORONAVIRUS

Archdiocese of New York

There has been no change to the Archdio-cese of New York’s Coronavirus rules as of yet. If you have not seen the rules yet you can look at any bulletin between March 22 and May 24, or you can call the recto-ry. When the Archdiocese communicates an update, we will post them here.

SCHOOLS CORNER St. Columbanus School adapted quickly to the new state of “stay at home” affairs back in March. Like most schools, the students and teachers are engaging daily uti-lizing Google Classroom and Zoom meetings for learn-ing, projects, testing, etc. The P.E., Art and Library teachers are providing assignments as well. There is reg-ular communication from the Principal and teachers to the parents. Certainly this is a new learning experience for all, but everyone is becoming more proficient at it as time progresses. Nothing replaces a teacher in a class-room however, and they all look forward to returning to School in the fall. The staff is hard at work preparing for a socially-distant physical school setting.

HELP YOUR PARISH St. Columbanus has an active, engaged and rewarding volunteer community. As coronavirus restrictions be-come relaxed, the parish community will certainly be looking to get back to what activities they can. There are several parish organizations which are always looking for new members. Below are a few of them. If you have the time, please consider helping your parish. Knight of Columbanus: Has a work crew to repair both churches and perform specific landscaping to the grounds. Raises $30,000 per year for charities, the majority of which goes to the Parish and St. Columbanus school; along with the Putnam Val-ley Food Pantry. Provides about six free Communion Brunches and Grab-’N-Go Brunches for both churches. Rosary Altar Society: Has a crew which cleans the altar linens. Holds a few fundraisers for the Church, particularly the annual Craft Fair, which has been ongoing for over 20 years. Columbiettes: Holds fundraisers, and assists the parish. Bible Study: Mondays or Wednesday groups get together to read and discuss the bible in an organized setting.

~PASTOR’S NOTES~

May 31, 2020

I want to thank so many of our parishioners who have in-creased their weekly contribution to our parish. Although we do not take in as much as we did when we held Mass, we are so far managing to keep up with our bills. We are always looking to change vendors to save money. We have also had an increase in our Parish Giving online contributions. I encourage our parishioners who do other trans-actions online to sign up for our online giving. You can sign up by going to our parish website (stcolumbanusparish.org) and go to the right side and click on the Parish Giving logo. We have remained open during the pandemic (Sunday through Friday 10 am-8 pm, and Saturday10 am-3 pm and 5 pm-8 pm) for personal prayer. We have exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Monday (7-8 pm), and confessions on Saturday

from 5-6 pm. The church is kept sanitized and we have hand cleaner in the front and back of the church. It seems we will be opening our churches for Mass within the next month or two. We don’t know the dates yet but we have gotten plans for when we do reopen. Some of the Archdiocesan requirements for the people include: 1. Those who are at a higher risk for COVID-19 (i.e., those who are older than 65 or who have underlying health conditions) are urged not to come to church for Mass. 2. Those who feel in any way sick or who are worried about attending Mass should not enter the church. 3. In accordance with current state policy, the faithful (over 2 years old) must wear cloth face coverings when in public, including when they come to church. 4. Attendees should sanitize their hands at the entrance of the church via sanitizer stations. 5. All present at Mass should sit 6 feet or more away from others. Families may sit together. Those who cannot attend Mass may be encouraged to spend time daily reading the Scriptures, praying with their families, watching a broadcast or livestreamed Mass, and making an act of spiritual communion (see be-low).

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

As we come to the end of May, dedicated to our Lady, let us continue to pray the Rosary daily.

“Pray, hope, and don’t worry.” (St. Padre Pio)

Confirmation for our children has been moved to September 19th. First Com-munion has been postponed to an unspecified date. The hold on weddings, bap-tisms, etc. (except in emergency situations) is still in place by the Archdiocese, as well as the gatherings restriction by the State of New York. As of now no other events have been rescheduled. In the coming weeks we will have more guidance from the State of New York and the Archdiocese as they begin to relax guidelines to get people back to work. So we should have more information come June. As we all get stir crazy, especially as the warm weather comes, lets remind ourselves to think risk vs. reward and make the right decisions about attending events and maintaining proper washing and social-distancing guidelines.

Reminders: The Church is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday thru Fr iday and Saturday 10—3 p.m. and 3 –5 p.m. for private prayer. Confessions are heard on Saturdays from 5-6 p.m. and Mondays from 7-8 p.m. (no appoint-ment is needed). Our YouTube Channel now has 57 subscribers; lets get it to 100; please spread the word. During these trying times we are glad to be able to have the Church open for private prayer, offer confession, provide mass on YouTube as well as the bulletin via our website. Please spread the word so that more of our parishioners become aware of these offerings. It is our hope that together, in prayer, we can find strength through the Grace of God and navigate these trying times safely, with health. Saint Columbanus, St. Kateri Tekakwitha pray for us.
