Description Participants in this training will learn the following skills on the AIMSweb system: • Logging in and out • Viewing progress monitoring graphs • Setting up graphs • Adding scores to graphs • Adding intervention lines to graphs • Printing graphs and reports • Filing and un-filing graphs Please note that the AIMSweb system is scheduled for a significant update in August, 2013 which will change both the look and functionality of this system. Therefore, experienced users may also find this training session beneficial.

Outcome Participants will be comfortable navigating in the AIMSweb system, and understand how to complete functions related to set up and maintenance of progress monitoring graphs.

Bar Model Intervention

SCRED Training Center A & B - Rush City Barb Scierka October 8, November 12

8:30 am - 3:30 pm Description This course is a 2 day training on how to use a Bar Modeling Intervention to help students solve word problems. This intervention teaches students to draw a representation of word problems to help them determine the important variables, the correct operation(s) and to write the answer in a complete sentence. Teachers must attend Day 1 in order to attend Day 2. Teachers will have 5-7 word problems to complete each week for 9 weeks. Estimated time per week - 1 hour. This time is included in the CEUs. Videos demonstrating the procedure are available for each problem.

Outcome Teachers will be able to demonstrate the bar modeling strategy and use the videos with students to use as a teaching tool or error correction procedure.

Description In this five-session training cycle, participants will learn a systematic problem solving process used to guide intervention development and data-based decision making within schools. They will learn how to identify students at risk, methods for analyzing the cause of identified problems, goal setting, intervention design, progress monitoring, strategies for ensuring implementation fidelity, and techniques for evaluating intervention effectiveness. Participants will work on a case study with their teams, and have regular opportunities to discuss building level implementation. This course is foundational for those on intervention teams as well as staff who provide interventions to students.

Outcome Participants will have developed skills to participate in building level problem solving to support students.

Fundamentals contains lessons on paraphrasing words, phrases, and sentences, as well as lessons on identifying main ideas and details in paragraphs and short essays.

Description This activity is designed for DCD Licensed Teachers and Educational Speech Language Pathologists. Barbara Commers and Mary Baumann-Spooner are both Educational Speech Language Pathologists in the St. Cloud area. They will share materials and methods that help the SLP and DCD teacher implement a range of services for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. This training was developed to help staff improve the quality of AAC service at the classroom level. Both the novice teacher and the experienced teacher will discover effective strategies. The activity is designed to be a full year project. There is one full day workshop presentation with 3 follow up web based sessions.

Outcome Improve the quantity and quality of AAC services to students. Improve teacher skills to provide differentiated instruction and use of AAC to increase student participation levels.

Description Content of this training includes a study of present goal measurement and methods to improve the data collection and graphs currently in use for students. Staff will share goal ideas and create templates to be stored in the DCD Social Group user site. This is a network meeting style presentation with collaborative planner led content and breakout time to create templates. Teachers will work on current caseloads. Both higher functioning academic skills and emergent functional skills goal target measurements will be discussed. Secondary DCD Teachers will have a TRAX Transition Training included in this session.

Outcome Teachers will create a resource bank of example data collection and graph templates. Teachers will improve CIMP progress monitoring performance results.

Network to problem solve using professional experience from the group to design intervention strategies for complex case studies. Network to keep a high quality standard to assessment practice, intervention fidelity, and resource materials used across districts. Description Participants will be informed of state special education updates and SCRED guidance on a wide variety of topics. In addition, participants will work on SCRED-wide projects and have the opportunity to network with colleagues on challenging cases and systemic issues.

Outcome Participants will apply the updates and guidance to their individual practice, as well as share the information at the local level with special education teams, through individual consultation, and/or SCRED service area networking meetings.

Measurement Group

Description The SCRED Measurement Group includes one staff member from each building involved in GOM benchmark data collection. We meet three times per year (in advance of each benchmark window) to share updates and details related to GOM data collection, and to help ensure smooth data collection logistics. This group also provides input and feedback regarding pilot projects related to GOMs.

Outcome GOM data collection runs smoothly in our buildings, and pilot studies are well designed and executed for the purpose of continuous improvement to our data collection system.

Staff Council

Description Staff Council serves as a venue for special education staff to provide input to SCRED on a regular basis. Each building sends one special education staff member to the meetings. This advisory council provides input on upcoming professional learning, SCRED procedures, and other important items.

Description This is an 8-hour class that certifies staff in verbal de-escalation techniques and non-violent physical intervention techniques. CPI certification is valid for 12 months before a refresher class is required.

Outcome Participants will gain strategies in using verbal de-escalation with students and how to safely intervene in physical crisis situations.

Description This refresher training is for staff who are already certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. Participants will review key program concepts, problem solve, and strengthen crisis intervention skills.

Outcome Participants will increase their nonverbal, paraverbal, verbal, and physical intervention skills as well as learn alternative strategies for responding to crisis situations.
