    St.Croix Squadron Helps Out at the 2009Shrine Circus Fundraiser

    On Thurs day 02April thro ugh Sunday 05April 2009, Memb eraof the st. Croix Comp 0site Squ adron help ed out at the 2009Osman Shrine Circus hel d at the Minnes ot a st ate Fairgrounds Coliseum. The Squ adron help ed perfo rm par king lotatt endant duti ea as well as light crow d conbrol and securit yduties.The circus had ho st ed a total 0f 10 show s 0vera four dayp erio d. Both Senior m embers and cadets were ubilia ed in avariety of tasks and duti ea. The shririer s and the circu sperform er s pro vide d acts au ch as hi gh wire fe aba, juggeling,clowns and skits, dar ede vil mo torcycl e feaba, Tigers, Elephant s, camels and lot s of inter acti v e funfor ki da and adults.The st. Paul Shriners use many of the funds raia ed from the oircus to help fund the ShrinersHospital which help skids and parents get the mu ch ne eded m edi cal help from dibili ating ilIne ssand at1i ctio na. Our Shriner ho st s were very go 0d to us again by tr eating us to lunch, snacks andgivirig usa pl ace to sit and rest during the bri ef p erio da b etw een show s and acti vitie a.Thi s was the st. Croix Squadron's 3rd year working thi s co-operati ve event as a Squ adr onfundr aia er and again it was a very au coea sful time for us all.We manage d to have on av erage 12.7Squadron m embers per show working the v ario us tasks we were aske d to pro vide for the ShrinersLt. Co 1 . Bill Rutten was the st. Cro ix Squadro ria Proj ect om cer for thi s event and was re spo nai blefor arranging and coor dinating all of the m emb era for each days show a. Lt. Co 1 . Bill Rutten, Capt.David Yost were the only m ember s who attended all 10show s and our thanks go out to both ofyou for your dedi cati on.The hours were m any and the day s were long, but we all had a fun tim e and got to sp end a 10 t oftime getting to know one another a little better. The Squadron van left. the hangar every morningat least two hours b efore the first show and did not return uni tl tw 0 hour s after the 1ast show, thi1ed tom 0stly members working a 14 or 15hour day. E v eryone pi tche d in and we had a veryau coea sful fundrai sing event.Our Commander, Capt. David Yost has a message for the Squadron; 'Iwould like to add mythanks and oongratul atio ria to all you who participat ed foraj 0b very well done. We heard po siti voomm em s (again thi s year) not 0nly from the Shriner s, but al s0 from the circu s people. Theringmaster told me he has worked many circuses in many places, some of which also have localorgard a ati ons au ch as ours helping with logistic s, and our CAP unit definitely stands 0ut as veryoomp etant and very pr ofe sai onal. Well done, guys!lWe hop e thi s furidraiairig event be com es an armu al everf for our Squ adron be cau se we have agre at tim e doing this fo r the Shriner s and ours elv ea . This is just another way our m ember s cangive som ething back to the comm uni ty and for the kids it help a .

Paul Pieper, Incident Commander (ICt mi sai on bas e. Our sear ch plan to ok us from Lake Elmo (21D) to New Richmo nd, WI (RNR) tomery, WI (Allli) to 0 sceo la, WI (OEO) and back to Lake Elmo (21D) by 212510cal time. We wereone a little less than 4 hours total and covered around 108miles. We swept all of the airports fur ai sbres s signal but did not pick up on any.
