We will take up a Second Collection at both churches today for
the Long Xuyen Diocese of Vietnam. Please help Fr. Joseph
Thien help those he serves.
It is customary and fitting to remember
loved ones who have died with memorial
donations to a favorite cause or charity. In
this way, the memory of the deceased is honored and a good
work, either civic or religious, is perpetuated. There are
numerous charities that have been traditionally designated for
such purpose.
At times, we are also offered donations to these funds to honor
particular individuals at special times of the year or to
commemorate an event in their lives.
Memorial donations to the Remembrance Fund are restricted to
the betterment and furtherance of our worship and our place of
worship - the Church, as the needs present itself, or as
determined by the Pastor.
We are grateful to the following who have donated to St.
Gabriel Remembrance Fund:
In Remembrance of Joseph Cianci
Marge Conforto
In Remembrance of John Conforto
Rose Marie Perkoski Irene Jopek Roberta Schaefer
In Remembrance of Maria Pereira
Buddy & Judy Buder

In Lovingly Memory of
John Pier
Requested by Wife, Agnes and Family
Altar flowers have been offered at St. Joseph
Church in loving memory of John Pier by his
wife, Agnes and family.
So often we lose a loved one who has made a
difference in so many lives. Remember to be thankful for those
you have loved and share memories of that individual - it may
continue to enlighten another’s life!

prayers.” Jesus (According to St. Fausna)
The 11th Annual Connecticut Catholic Men’s Conference will
take place on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 8:30 am until
5:00 pm at St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol. This is a
joint effort of the three Latin diocese of Connecticut and the
Eparchy (Eastern Catholic diocese) of Stamford.
This year’s Conference, recalling our resurrected Lord’s
command at the conclusion of Mark’s Gospel, urges us to “Go
out into the whole world,” thereby reminding us of our sacred
duty to joyfully proclaim Jesus Christ as his modern-day
disciples. For just over a decade, the Conference has been
bringing men of faith together for prayer, fraternity and
inspiration as they strive to live out their Catholic identity in
their homes and families, in the workplace and in the
surrounding community and amid the challenges facing our
culture today.

RELIGIOUS ED NOTES
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Mary, our Blessed Mother, is the first disciple or
follower of Jesus. Mary said “yes” to God’s plan for
her to be the Mother of the Son of God. Throughout
her life Mary continued to say “yes” to God’s call.
Mary shows us the way to Jesus. We honor Mary on special
days we call feast days. Some of the days we honor Mary are
Holy Days of Obligation – on Holy Days we go to Mass.
Last Wednesday, we celebrated the Assumption of the Blessed
Virgin Mary.
Some other special days dedicated to Mary in our Catholic
Liturgical Calendar are:
September 8: The Virgin Mary's Nativity – Feast
December 8: Immaculate Conception - Holy Day
January 1: Holy Mary Mother of God - Holy Day
February 2: The Presentation of Our Lord – Feast
March 25: The Annunciation - Holy Day
March 31: The Visitation of the Virgin Mary -Feast

Catechetical Sunday – on September 16
th
at the 10:30 a.m.
Mass at St. Gabriel Church those who will serve as Catechists
will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry.
Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on
the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in
handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. This
year’s theme ‘Enlisting Witnesses for Jesus Christ’ invites all
the baptized to devote themselves to a deeper study and
practice of prayer, for their own spiritual good and for the
good of those they serve. We invite all Catechists, parochial
school Teachers, Catholic high school Teachers, Bible study
and Adult Education Leaders, and RCIA Leaders to join us
at this Mass as we acknowledge and thank you in sharing
your time and faith with the children and youth of our parish
communities. Please join us following Mass for a reception in
St. Gabriel Church Hall.
