Dear Parent/Guardian:
The virtue for the Month of December is CHARITY. We are delighted to in-
form you that the “Night the Light” walk (held in October to raise funds for
the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada) raised $521.60. Many thanks
to all who contributed to this worthy cause.
There are many other things happening at our school. Last month we began
the monthly Rosary program. We have also revived our Twitter account.
(Please follow us: @p_dsavio). We are also looking to reduce the amount of
paper sent home by posting more items on our St. Dominic Savio home page:
https://www.tcdsb.org/schools/stdominicsavio. More details will be
forthcoming in the new year.
Grade 3 and 6 EQAO results were released to the general public last month.
The St. Dominic Savio School scores in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics
were once again very good. However, Grade 3 scores in math were below
Board and Provincial averages. For more information and to view our school
report, please visit www.eqao.com. Our school improvement team has deter-
mined that solving multi step mathematical problems is our “urgent critical
need”. Thus, our school Professional Learning Plan is focused on improving
our Math scores school wide.
The season of Advent marks the beginning of the new Liturgical Year. Advent
is the season in which we prepare for the coming of Baby Jesus, at Christ-
mas. It is a period of simple living and extra prayer. We will celebrate Ad-
vent in many ways at St. Dominic Savio. We hope to see you at our Annual
CSPC Christmas Luncheon, at our Christmas Sing– a-Long (Primary classes,
Choir and Instrumental Band), and at our Advent Mass. Please refer to the
Calendar for more details.
Finally, on behalf of the St. Dominic Savio School staff, let me take this op-
portunity to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas full of Peace and
Love and the best of Health, Happiness and Success in 2016.
Warm Regards,
F. Clotildes

Guidance Corner – December
During the season of Advent, encourage your child to be charitable towards one another. Forgiving past hurts, extending the hand of friendship and including those who are marginalized, is a wonderful way to put our virtue of Charity into action.
A few excellent websites to help your child develop self regulation skills are: http://www.gonoodle.com,
https://www.edu.gov.on.ca/childcare/Shanker.pdf, http://www.todaysparent.com/family/education/self-regulation-techniques-for-children/
Grade 8 students have been working with the AFTER8 guide to gather information about different aspects of high school such as: The Credit System, Course Types, Timetables and Special Programs. The more information students have before going to high school, the easier the transition becomes. Talk to your Gr. 8 child about their fears and anxieties that they are having about going to high school, and help them gather as much infor-mation as possible. Your Parent Transition Guide is filled with helpful information to answer many of your questions.

The virtue of the Month for
December is Charity.
During the month of De-
cember we will be focus-
sing on the virtue of Charity
at St. Dominic Savio Cath-
olic School. The scripture
passage that guides us this
month is “Where charity
and love are, God is there”.
As we enter the season of
Advent to prepare our
hearts for the birth of Je-
sus, it is rather suitable that
this month’s virtue is
CHARITY. Many of us are
already engaging in the
mad rush to purchase gifts
to put under the tree, but
let us be mindful of the fact
that charity in not always
about giving material
things. As St. Thomas
Aquinas described it
“Charity is friendship first
with God and secondly with
all who belong to
God.” (2a2ae, 24,4).
Let us always practice
charity and generosity in
our community.
Student Council:
On November 11th, 2015, stu-dents dressed down in red and black to raise money for Project Hope. The Canadian govern-ment is hoping to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees in Cana-da before the Christmas season. We raised $220.80. Student council challenges us with the goal of $500.00 so that means $279.20 to go! We will have another dress down day in red, green and white on Friday, De-cember 18th, 2015. Students are asked to donate $1.00 or more. Let us show our charity towards those Syrian families this Christmas season!
Me to We:
On November 20th, 2015 staff and stu-dents took a vow of silence. $125.60 was raised and will go towards our country India and our pillar Health Care. Me to We ambassadors wish to thank staff and students for their support. Looking ahead to December, we will be selling Christmas candy grams and rafiki brace-lets. Further information about candy grams to follow. Please see the insert on how to pre-order your rafiki bracelets.
WINTER RECESS PROCEDURES
All students are expected to be out-
doors for recess. A child who is too
sick to go out at recess is too sick to
benefit from attending school. We do
not have indoor supervision for stu-
dents at recess time.
On very cold days we will limit out-
door activity (any temperature with
the wind chill around -20 degrees Cel-
sius is the general guideline).
Please insure that your children are
dressed appropriately for the cold and
wet conditions. Boots are for outdoor
use. A pair of indoor shoes must be
worn inside the school at all times. (If
students need to evacuate the school,
they will have to exit as they are, and
will not have time to put on shoes).
of these green bins will need a plastic
bag to line the bin with, so we ask any
families that can spare plastic bags to
send them in with your child so that
they can be put to good use in our
green bins. We would also like to
thank all of the families who have been
sending in milk bags. We have quite a
collection, which is good since we need
400 milk bags to make just one mat.
Please continue to send in your milk
We have great news!! We fi-
nally have our green bins for
the school. This means that
every classroom will have its
very own green bin to collect
all compostable materials,
including things like fruit
peelings and bread crusts.
We are asking for your sup-
port with this initiative by
sending in plastic bags. Each
bags and help someone in a country less
fortunate than ours.
Please also continue to send in your old cell phones, expired batteries and mark-ers, pens and highlighters as well as ink cartridges and the Eco Avengers will en-
sure they are recycled appropriately.
Thank you for your contributions!

ECO AVENGERS NEWS
In an effort to increase the con-sumption of fruits and vegetables on a weekly basis, each class will com-pete against each other to determine who has the most servings of fruits and vegetables in their lunch bags. Weekly prizes will be awarded to the winning class and the results will be compiled on a school wide fruit and
vegetable meter in the front foyer.
Ms. Vecchiarelli and her Tutti Frutti Squad (composed of Mr. McTernan’s Grade 5 students) will lead the project and visit classes on a weekly basis. Please check the calendar for “Fruity
Friday dates.
Our school is looking forward to adopt-ing healthy eating habits through this project. A big thank you to Metro for
their generous contribution.
