On Wednesday, July 1, our new parish, Triumph of the Holy Cross, becomes a reality. In this

weekend’s liturgy, Saint Paul teaches us that we who are baptized have been baptized into

Christ’s death and resurrection. We are a holy people in Christ. It is Jesus who is leading us today

as a newly-formed parish to carry out His mission here on earth. He calls us onward into the

future, to follow Him on the Paschal journey from the cross to new life. This is the call of our baptism. Let us pray for

Christ’s abundant grace that we will be a resurrection people of courage and hope in a new, vibrant parish, with

effective ministries, to bring His Gospel to all in our world.

Our public celebration of the Mass this weekend:

Saturday, June 27 at 4:00PM and Sunday, June 28 at 9:00AM

Both Masses are celebrated at St. Thomas à Becket

in the Church.

The Saturday anticipated Mass is broadcast on YouTube at 6:00PM and available to view

at any time afterwards.

Weekday Masses are at St. Thomas à Becket at 8:00AM in the Church

and available for viewing at home at 9:00AM.

GUIDELINES FOR MASS ATTENDANCE

At present we will be using only the St. Thomas á Becket Church because it offers the highest seating capacity and largest parking lot.

The obligation to attend Sunday Mass remains suspended until further notice because of the pandemic. No one is obligated to attend Mass. Anyone who is feeling sick should stay at home and pray.

People who are at risk because of underlying health issues, or who are elderly or sick, are strongly encouraged to stay home for their own health and to avoid the risk of contracting the virus. This includes anyone over 65 or anyone who has a fever or cough, diabetes, other chronic illness of has a compromised immune system.

All who attend Mass must wear a mask and practice social distancing (except for families who live together). The Church has marked pews to best practice social distancing.

Hand sanitizers have been placed at the entrance of the Church and all must use them as you enter.

Please follow the direction of the ushers and greeters who will show you to your pew. Please do not sit at the end of the pew but move in so no one has to climb over you.

Things you’ll notice: fewer people in the sanctuary, no Offertory procession and no Sign of Peace, no Holy Water, no Hymnals, Choirs are not permitted, distribution of Holy Communion is only the Sacred Host and will not be distributed until after the final blessing and dismissal. Collection boxes will be available as you exit the Church.

Please allow the ushers to invite you from your pew to approach the priest for communion while practicing social distancing of six feet between persons. Please exit the Church as soon as you have received (please don’t return to the pew). Also note ... the Bishop has strongly urged that everyone receive Communion in the hand to protect you and the priest and those coming after you. Please remember again the distribution of Holy Communion is only after the Mass ends with the dismissal. Please be patient with yourselves and others. We are still learning and making adjustments to ensure everyone’s safety.

HOURS for Private Prayer at each Church: 11:00AM – 2:00PM, Monday thru Friday.

The areas open for private prayer will be clearly marked. In addition to daily cleaning and sanitizing,

the use of masks and social distancing (maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet) is required for any use of

the Church buildings. Restrooms remain locked. Sign-in upon entering the Church.

A LETTER FROM FATHER CAIN Dear Sisters and Brothers of St. Clare of Assisi, St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Holy Spirit and St. Thomas à Becket, It has been my distinct privilege to come to serve and get to know you in the months since your dear Pastor, Father Bob Cedolia, was asked to step aside from priestly ministry during the process to clear his name from any accusation of misconduct. The courts have held up the complicated process that leads to resolution. We hope and pray for his return as soon as possible. It was because of this misfortune that I was assigned to this grouping of Churches to help us all keep moving forward On Mission for the Church Alive. In our time together, we have tried faithfully to serve the people of each of our communities through the Sacramental Life of the Church as well as the formation efforts for our young, our school, our youth ministry, our welcoming of those interested in joining the Church through the RCIA, programs of Adult Education, Bible Study, Prayer Groups and the Activities of Social Service, Christian Mothers, Men’s Club and many others. In that time, I’ve witnessed the dedication of staff and parish leadership to keep our focus on the rich gifts and resources we are blessed with as the four communities have come to work more in unison with the support and insight of so many and the encouragement of our parish councils. You are indeed a faith community—ready and able to move together into the future as a new parish, Triumph of the Holy Cross! We’ve tried to keep the community informed, first through the bulletin until the coronavirus stripped us of that instrument and the Pittsburgh Catholic. We’ve tried to continue to keep you abreast of developments through electronic media, though we knew we could not reach all. We regularly gathered staff and councils to inform, seek counsel and wisdom from them and asked them to share with as many of you as they could through verbal sharing with you. Through the parish website and flocknotes, we encouraged those who had access to these media to pass on the word to any they knew did not have these resources, but we apologize that our efforts did not reach all. One expression of that came with the recent announcement of our new parish name. To some it was a surprise and perhaps to some, a disappointment. We have to remember the naming moved from the original over 100, to a final 15 sent to the Bishop and then finally to another breakdown of only 3 names from which the Bishop chose our new name. Please note, only the Bishop can create a parish or give a parish its name … it is never a matter of majority favor, but only finally his choice. Triumph of the Holy Cross was among our top 3 and together we rejoice in our following Jesus’s command “if anyone wishes to follow me, he must take us his cross and follow after me.” There is still so very much to do, but I know in the very capable hands of your new Pastor, Father Paul Zywan, and his dedicated team of Father Bill Terza and Father Ken Kezmarsky and with the assistance of Holy Deacons and Staff, the good work God has begun among you will surely come to fulfillment in a flourishing parish that will bring the love of God to the whole Church of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. As I began, so I thank you for the privilege of sharing faith and life with you, promise always a special place in my prayer for all of you, thank you for your patience, cooperation and support in good times and in bad. I ask your pardon for any way I may have offended anyone and ask a little remembrance in your prayer as I move into all the tomorrows of my life. God’s blessings to all!

ABOUT MASS INTENTIONS … Since the closure of all churches in March due to the coronavirus, the Mass intentions that were scheduled in our four churches continued to be said at private daily Masses celebrated by Fr. Cain, Fr. Ken and Fr. Bill. All Masses scheduled until July 1, 2020 were said on or near the day they were requested. No Mass intentions were accepted after July 1, 2020 because of us becoming one parish and the possibility of a Mass schedule change when that took place. Then the coronavirus complicated things. As we began to reopen on the weekend of June 6/7, we had a limited schedule because of sanitizing and coronavirus restrictions. Also, our new Pastor, Fr. Paul Zywan, will begin his ministry on July 1, 2020 as we become Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, maintaining our four churches. We will continue our present schedule until he has had the opportunity to determine how we should proceed in the immediate future. Because of this, our Mass schedule may change from week to week as we may be able to open more buildings. Please be patient as we move through this process. However, since NO MASSES were scheduled in any of the four churches after July l, 2020, we are now opening up your ability to schedule dates in July and August, beginning with July 13. Only a specific date can be requested and not a particular church until we are back to the original schedule at all four churches. WE DO NOT KNOW WHEN THAT WILL BE. Until then, we will continue to have a weekday Mass (MONDAY - FRIDAY) at 8:00AM at St. Thomas à Becket which will be available on line at 9:00AM for those who cannot attend. One priest will say that Mass and the other two priests will continue to say private Masses. On Saturday, there will be a concelebrated 4:00PM Vigil Mass and a Sunday 9:00AM Mass, both at St. Thomas à Becket. The Saturday Vigil will be available online at 6:00PM and thereafter. THREE Mass Intentions can be scheduled for each day. There will NOT BE a Saturday morning Mass after June 27, because of weddings, funerals and memorial Masses that must be satisfied.

ALL MASSES MUST BE SCHEDULED BY CALLING LYNETTE BALDWIN

at 412-655-2885. There will now be one Mass Book for all Masses

scheduled for TRIUMPH OF THE HOLY CROSS PARISH. When, and

if we are able, we will schedule them at the individual churches.

PLEASE BE PATIENT until the future allows us to expand this

procedure. Each person can only schedule ONE MASS.
