NUESTRA MISIÓN Santa Faustina es una comunidad inspirada por el Espíritu Santo, y llamada a reflejar la Divina Misericordia de Dios, a fomentar el crecimiento espiritual, y atender las necesidades temporales y sociales de todos.

“I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones..."(Matthew 11:25) Who are the little ones? A child, or someone who may be poor and marginalized, lack of higher education if none at all. The latest happenings in the American society may have polarized the so called 'wise and the learned' from the 'little ones' when those who are supposed to be leaders and keepers of the law are in serious trouble for violating the rights of the ones they are supposed to serve and protect. In his pastoral letter on racism entitled "When Words Fall Short", Bishop George Leo Thomas mentions "preferential option for the poor" as an important component of Catholic Social Teaching, the church's way of acknowledging that in far too many cases, we are blinded to the very people living in our midst. A tension between the call to charity and social justice needs to be resolved. Bishop Thomas quotes Kenneth Himes: "Unfortunately, there has been a tendency by some Catholics to denigrate one or the other of these responses to the Gospel. There are proponents of justice who dismiss charity as "band aids" that cover-up but did not eradicate the problem. Others who advocate charity see justice activities as political ideology masquerading as religious work or an excuse for not "getting your hands dirty" through direct contact with the poor." (Himes, Kenneth, R. O.F.M.(2001) Responses to 101 Questions on Catholic Social Teaching, Mahwah, New Jersey, Paulist Press. pp 45-46) For Bishop Thomas, both views are inadequate and short-sighted. Catholic Social Teaching is clear in its understanding that both charity and justice are necessary and interrelated components to an authentic response to the Gospel and a necessary response to the demands of Beatitude living. As your pastor, I would like us to pray and reflect further on your response as Christian Catholic parishioners to the pandemic and to the protests, whether silent and/or violent, against racism in the world today. May the light and love of Christ help us transcend the political, racial and religious differences we have in the very faith community we serve. As far as I am concerned, we have been good at it as one parish family. Blessings and all good things to you and yours. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. (Rom 8:13)

"Te alabo, Padre, Señor de los cielos y de la tierra, porque aunque has escondido estas cosas de los sabios y de los eruditos, se las has revelado a los más pequeños..."(Mateo 11:25)

¿Quiénes son los pequeños? Un niño, o alguien que puede ser pobre y marginado, alguien a quien le falta educación superior o que no la tiene. Los últimos acontecimientos en la sociedad estadounidense pueden haber polarizado a los llamados "sabios y estudiosos" de "los pequeños", cuando aquellos que se supone que son líderes y guardianes de la ley están en serios problemas por violar los derechos de los que se supone que deben servir y proteger.

En su carta pastoral sobre el racismo titulada "Cuando las Palabras Caen Corto", el Obispo George Leo Thomas menciona "opción preferencial para los pobres" como un componente importante de la Enseñanza Social Católica, la forma de la iglesia de reconocer que en demasiados casos, estamos cegados a las mismas personas que viven entre nosotros. Es necesario resolver la tensión entre la llamada a la caridad y a la justicia social. El obispo Thomas cita a Kenneth Himes:

"Desafortunadamente, ha habido una tendencia de algunos católicos a denigrar una u otra de estas respuestas al Evangelio. Hay defensores de la justicia que desestiman la caridad como "curitas" que cubrieron pero no erradicaron el problema. Otros que abogan por la caridad ven las actividades de justicia como una ideología política disfrazada de trabajo religioso o una excusa para no "ensuciarse las manos" a través del contacto directo con los pobres" (Himes, Kenneth, R. O.F.M.(2001) Respuestas a 101 Preguntas sobre la Enseñanza Social Católica, Mahwah, Nueva Jersey, Prensa Paulista pp 45-46) Para el Obispo Thomas, ambos puntos de vista son inadecuados y miopes. La Enseñanza Social Católica es clara en su entendimiento de que tanto la caridad como la justicia son componentes necesarios e interrelacionados para una respuesta auténtica al Evangelio y una respuesta necesaria a las exigencias de la vida de la Bienaventuranza. Como su pastor, quisiera que oremos y reflexionemos más sobre su respuesta como feligreses Católicos Cristianos a la pandemia y a las protestas, ya sean silenciosas y/o violentas, contra el racismo en el mundo de hoy. Que la luz y el amor de Cristo nos ayuden a trascender las diferencias políticas, raciales y religiosas que tenemos en la comunidad de fé que servimos. Por lo que a mí respecta, hemos actuado bien: como una sola familia parroquial. Bendiciones y todas las cosas buenas para ti y los tuyos. Porque si vives de acuerdo con la carne, morirás, pero si por el Espíritu pones a muerte las acciones del cuerpo, vivirás. (Rom 8:13)

The Knights of Columbus will hold its annual Baby Bottle Drive starting on July 4th and running thru September 6th

(Labor Day). You are asked to pick up your baby bottles after Mass and fill them with your loose change. Please only 1 baby bottle per family.
