Dear Parishioners: Two thousand years ago a Scribe walked up to Jesus and asked, “Which is the first of all the Commandments?” Now, it is important to remember that there were 613 of them. Jesus response includes two, which he makes into one, like two sides of the same coin forever. From that moment the love of God and the love of neighbor be-came inseparable. Hence, love became the measure for all true religion. Jesus told his disciples, “If you love me you will keep my commandments.” Love, too often, is re-duced to good feelings about another. But the love of Christ has a lot more to do with what we do rather than how we feel. There is a beautiful story in Chicken Soup for the Soul about a little girl who was dy-ing from a very rare disease. Her only hope for survival was to get a transfusion from her five year old brother who had survived the same disease and whose body had devel-oped antibodies needed to combat the ill-ness. The doctor explained to the young boy what a transfusion was and asked if he would be willing to give blood to his sister. He hesitated for a moment then said yes, if it will save Lisa.” As the transfusion progressed he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled along with the medical staff as they saw color return to Lisa’s cheeks. Then the little boy’s smile faded and with a very serious look on his face and in a trembling voice asked the doctor, “Will I die now?” The boy had misunderstood the doctor and thought he would have to give his sister all his blood. True love is not always a happy, painless, easy, carefree thing. When love is real it requires unselfishness and seeks only one thing, the good of the other. May what we do speak loudly of our love for God and neighbor. It’s a commandment! Love and Prayers, Bro. John

Estimados Feligreses:

Mucho amor y bendiciones, Hno. Juan
