Also, remember the sick of the parish at home, in hospitals
and in convalescent homes, especially, Patricia Chatey,
Madeline Rose McCall, Diane Boggio, Betsy Boggio,
Richard Massa, and Peggy Nolan.
We would like to take this opportunity
to welcome The Onessimo Family as new members of St. Gabriel Parish.
As a parish, we hope to meet all their
spiritual needs and also take this time to extend an invitation to join in the
various social events and ministries of
St. Gabriel Church.
The Rectory Office will be closed on Monday,
December 26th, for the Christmas Holiday. May
you and your family have a blessed holiday and
safe travels.
A Christmas Gift for You!
Copies of the book Resisting Happiness by Matthew Kelly are at the entrances of the Church. Matthew Kelly is a motivational
speaker, author, business consultant, and founder of Dynamic Catholic. Resisting Happiness is a true story about why we sabotage ourselves, feel overwhelmed, set aside our dreams, and lack the courage to simply be ourselves....and how to start choosing happiness again. A generous Parishioner from Saint Joseph Parish has purchased these books for you! Each household is invited to take a copy to share (and then pass on to a friend). What a meaningful way to celebrate Christmas and welcome in the New Year as a parish community!
THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD DECEMBER 25, 2016
The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I
proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all
the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been
born for you who is Christ and Lord. And this will be a
sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling
clothes and lying in a manger." - Lk 2:10-12
Learn more about how God is with us in the Bible
The Birth of Jesus raises too many questions that just can’t be answered in an eight minute homily! If you want to delve deeper into the meaning of God’s gift to us at Christmas, consider learning more about our Catholic Biblical School. Contact us, or come to our Celebration of Sacred Scripture on Saturday, March 25, to learn more about how we “roll.” The enrollment processes begin in spring, and classes begin in early September. For details, check our website (www.orehartford.org) or contact the Office of Education, Evangelization and Catechesis ([email protected], 860-242-5573, ext. 2670.
A CHRISTMAS PRAYER O THOU EVERLASTING God from
whom all blessings flow, hear our prayers
as again we call to remembrance the birth of thy son, the
Prince of Peace. We thank thee for his coming among us
as a little child and his making for himself a place among
the diverse people of the earth where he could love and be
loved. We think, especially, of the signs of his coming
which the ages have set before us: thy sustaining
providence through all the years as an ancient people
awaited deliverance; the voices of prophets foretelling the
direction and goal of human history; the shining star and
the angel song in the heavens; and the wonder of that holy
night when the whole creation hailed him in whom our
human redemption had come near. With true believers
everywhere we rise today to sing, “Joy to the world! The
Lord is come: let earth receive its king”.
HELPING HANDS MINISTRY donates handmade
items to needy people and places in the Archdiocese of
Hartford. We meet twice a month, Tuesday mornings in
Father Doherty Hall, at St. Joseph Church and are looking
for new members. Can you cut a piece of fabric, iron, tie,
a knot, knit, crochet or sew? Then we need you! Our first
meeting for 2017 is January 10th at 9:00 am. No
experience is necessary. For more information, call Linda,
860-508-7349 or email [email protected].
Dates for 2017 are: January 10, 24; February 14, 28;
March 14, 28; April 4, 18; May 9, 23 and June 5.
Marlene Towers and son, Brandan, lovingly
donated a beautiful flower arrangement for
our altar last weekend, December 17th and
18th. This was offered in memory of her
husband/ his father, Barry, as this year
marked the 3rd anniversary of his passing and rebirth with
Christ into eternity.
With that in mind, kindly take a moment to remember
Barry along with your own loved ones this Christmas. It is
a time to be thankful, joyful and feel blessed to have these
individuals in our lives.
A New Year; A New Catholic Transcript
Beginning late January 2017, the
Catholic Transcript newspaper will be
transformed into a full color magazine, which
will be sent for free to more than 192,000
Catholic households in Hartford, New Haven
and Litchfield counties. The new publication
will dynamically advance the tradition of a
beloved, respected, award-winning newspaper
with roots dating back to 1829.
In magazine format, the Catholic
Transcript will continue to be the communications centerpiece
of Catholic news and information for our archdiocesan family
of faith. Its visibility and relevance will be greatly enhanced
thanks to its digital presence, social media interconnectivity,
evangelizing content, and distribution 10 times a year to more
than double the number of Catholic households than in the
recent past.
The Catholic Transcript’s transformation is in direct
response to the Office of Pastoral Planning’s Your Voice Counts
survey.
The next Prayer Shawl Meeting will be on
Monday, January 9, at 1:00 pm in St. Gabriel
Church Hall. Knitters and crocheters are invited
to join with us in this very rewarding ministry.
For more information, call Pat at 860-688-1692.
The Prayer Shawl Members have received lovely thank you
notes from Hartford Hospital and The Windsor Caring
Connection Adult Day Health Center for beautifully
handcrafted shawls donated.
We are not having coffee and donuts the next 2
weeks, (Christmas day and New Years day). We will resume on the 8th of January.
