CHURCH/COUNCIL/FAMILY – “Light up for Christ” Ceremony December 5th: The Knights of Columbus has publicly promoted the true meaning of Christmas for more than 30 years through its “Keep

Christ in Christmas” program. The Order’s Christmas announcements have reached more than 20 million television viewers and about 27 million radio listeners since they began airing in the 1980s. Throughout America, many Councils honor the birth of Jesus by illuminating and blessing a Christmas tree or Nativity scene on the first Tuesday of December as part of the Order’s “Light Up for Christ” campaign, launched in 1991.

On Tuesday, December 5th, St. Genevieve Council 13969 sponsored a “Light up for Christ” ceremony for our parishioners and community. It was coordinated so that many councils nationwide started their parish Christmas seasons by lighting their statues and trees at exactly the same time! Deacon Lou Roman was our minister, and led the prayer and readings. Brother Ruben Corona, his wife Sylvia, and Bro Tomas Medina led the singing, with a choir of lead singers and the congregation joining in. After the ceremony, the Ladies Auxiliary served hot drinks and snacks that they had prepared. “Light Up For Christ” was a big success, with over 50 parishioners participating. Our capable Church Director Dave Kenny deserves congratulations for organizing and leading the event!

COMMUNITY/COUNCIL – New Mexico State Council Mid-Year Meeting December 8-10: This year’s NM State Knights of Columbus Mid-Year Meeting was held in Deming and co-sponsored by St. Joseph Council 4256 and St. Michael Council 15062. Council 13969 attendees included GK Jaime Flores, DD Kerry Morley, Host DD Gilbert Perez, and Brother Robert Ponzini. The main themes “Building the Domestic Church” and “Into the Breach” were frequently brought up and discussed from many perspectives. A serious talk was given by Elisa Martinez of NM Alliance for Life about their efforts to amend NM State Law to ban mid and late term abortions. One of the most important facts that I learned at the meeting was that there are about 1 Million refugees living in a tent city on the Syria/Jordan border being fed and helped primarily by funds from the Knights of Columbus National Organization.

FAMILY/COUNCIL/COMMUNITY – St. Genevieve Posada December 20th: “Posada” is Spanish for “inn”, and celebrates the journey of St. Joseph and Mary to the stable where Christ was born. It is a

re-enactment of Mary and Joseph’s search for a place to stay in Bethlehem. This year, the parish had a special Posada for the children and youth on Sunday December 17th. The second Posada at St. Genevieve’s was on Wednesday December 20th for the parish and community. Our special guest speaker for the evening was Bishop Ricardo Ramirez. Our Council and other Ministries were sponsors.

We had our Family Unity Night on that Wednesday evening, and celebrated FUN with La Posada. The celebration started with a talk by Bishop Ramirez. The remainder of the evening closely patterned the traditional Hispanic Posada format by including each of the main parts: a procession re-enacting Mary and Joseph’s journey, singing and praying of classic pieces during the procession, prayers, a feast for the participants, and the breaking of the piñata and the gathering of candy by the children.

The food table was well stocked…the Frs. Rogelio, Moreno & Naripogula, and Bishop Ramirez arrived early to mingle Parish shared a hearty meal afterwards GK Jaime Flores before the Posada with the crowd of parishioners and children

The Posada statue was carried outside by A large group of parishioners sang A small group of parishioners stayed the grandchildren of Deacon Lou Roman Posada songs in the cold, outside air inside to sing the Posada songs

INSURANCE AGENT’S MESSAGE

Put Your Loved Ones First

During the month of January, we spend a lot of time thinking about ourselves. What will our New Year’s resolutions be? How will we change our lives for the better? What will 2018 bring for us?

What about the ones you love? Is protecting them part of your plan for 2018? Sure, there’s a lot that you can and do to protect your loved ones. You make sure they’re safe. You make sure they’re taken care of. You do your best to make them happy. But what if you weren’t there for them? What if you couldn’t be?

Many are afraid to think about life insurance because they’re afraid of their mortality. But life insurance isn’t about dying, it’s about helping your family to live if and when something should happen to you.

Life insurance allows you to continue providing for your family after you’re gone, by seeing to it that they have the money they need to be as safe and secure as they have always been. It can provide mortgage protection, income replacement, retirement income, final expenses, and so much more.

And life insurance doesn’t need to be a gift that you’ll never see given. Your family can benefit from your policy while you’re still here to see them enjoy it.

So this Valentine’s Day, when you’re out buying that box of chocolates or flowers for your wife to express your continued love for her, make a point to schedule time with me to get your wife a special life-giving gift that will help you to protect her and your whole family for decades.

Flores, Grand Knight _________________________________ COUNCIL/COMMUNITY – Entry Degree Exemplification on December 19th: Our K of C Information Drive, held in November, resulted in our identifying ten men from the parish interested in learning more about the Knights of Columbus. During December, we contacted all ten and interviewed four men who wanted to join our Council. At our December Exemplification, we welcomed new Brothers Jacob Acosta, Rick Chavez, Luis Garcia and Sammy Holguin into our fraternal order. In addition, one candidate from Our Lady of Health, Brother Alejandro Martinez, was brought into their council. Photos taken after the ceremony are shown below.
