ALTAR FLOWERS

The Flowers on the Altar last Saturday, June 6th and Sunday, June 7th, weekend were in memory of Joan Pantuso.

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and

unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from you.

Amen.

Welcome to our 2020 New Parishioners

We welcome in a very special way our new parish family members.

UPCOMING TEEN ACTS RETREAT Next weekend, Saturday, June 20th and Sunday, June 21st, is our annual Teen ACTS summer retreat. Teens completing 9th grade to graduating seniors are eligible to attend. This retreat is usually Thursday through Sunday, but it will be modified to a 2 day retreat, to meet safety measures for all teens and adults present, no overnight stay and in our Parish Hall. The cost has also been $150 to attend, but this summer it will only be $25. With the lockdown we are experiencing, teens need to be spiritually fed now more than ever. All have handled this stay at home appeal differently and a retreat will certainly unite them in spirit.

For more information or concerns please call Gloria Silva at 210-342-3826.

INCREASE YOUR FAITH

How can we keep our faith and combat the forces of darkness in the present age when, as Pope Paul VI said, “The smoke of Satan has penetrated the Church.”

The first thing we must do is to keep ourselves as spiritually strong as we can by prayer, sacrifice and recourse to the sacraments. These are all important, our Lord says, “Without me, you can do nothing.”

Secondly, we must openly and continually testify to the truth, while always remembering the four cardinal virtues: justice and fortitude, prudence and temperance. If you are shy and public speaking is not your strength, pray for and support those organizations which are engaged in this essential apostolate.

Remember more turmoil may be ahead for all of us. However, we have in our hands the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the great theological encyclicals of Saint John Paul II. We can truly strengthen our faith by reading these documents which are like beacons of light in the dark and oppose all who wish to lead us astray.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word ~ Carmen Garza ~ 210-342-3824 or e-mail [email protected]

Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. John 6:51-58. Please keep our community in your prayers.

A prayer to share with your children: Lord Jesus, you are the living bread which comes to each of us in a special way. Help me to share the joy of your love with others I meet. Amen.

WHY DO CATHOLICS DO THAT? Why do Catholics need their Priests?

At the Last Supper, Jesus instituted the Eucharist, offering himself under the veils of bread and wine (Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC), #1374), to the Father and then giving himself to us.

To insure the sacrifice of the Mass would be offered until His return, Jesus ordained his Apostles as the first bishops. As well as saying Mass and ministering sacraments, the priest is to be a spiritual father to the souls in his care, teaching, consoling, and praying for them.

PRAYERS FOR OUR TROOPS

Lord , Hold these loved ones in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us.

Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Give them

courage, hope and strength. May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our lord and Savior. Amen.

MINISTRY TO THE SICK OF OUR PARISH: Names for inclusion in the Prayer List may be self-submitted, or submitted by family members or friends for someone in need of prayer to the Parish Office. Unless you are an immediate family member, please obtain permission from the person whose name is being placed on the list prior to submission.

Please let us know if we can add a family member or friend to our prayer lists who is currently serving in the military and call us when the names can be removed from the sick list or the military list.
