New Acolytes Serve at Altar

We are happy to welcome two new acolytes to join Ian Lindhartsen who has been serving at the altar in this capacity for several years. The two new acolytes are Charles Huff and Connor Whitehead. It is a pleasure to be associated with these three fine young men. They all continue to impress us with the mature way they handle their duties as acolytes.

Charles and Connor were recently presented with acolyte crosses which they wear when they are serving.

Congratulations to all three and thank you for serving your congregation in this way!

Faithfully, Vicki

Quiet Day Held

Although none from our community-at-large attended this year, the occasion of Memorial Day honoring all our Beloved was a success. A white carnation was placed on the grave of each who rest in the St. Hugh Memorial Garden.

Coffee, cookies with fruit was ready for hospitality, and music played softly throughout the church. Charles Huff prepared the chairs and tables on the patio and from 10 - 1 o'clock Chuck and JoAnna greeted the church members who dropped by - about a dozen. None the less, it was a satisfying effort. Next year, the advertising will change and our hope is to reach more people in our community…

Celebration Honors the Neals

On June 3rd, following the worship service, a fantastic meal was served to the congregation in honor of Jim and Wilma Neal's 50th Wedding Anniversary! The Kennedy sisters, Karen and Carol chaired the event, enlisting the ladies of the church to bring their wonderful salads and side dishes to go with ham. Mimosas were served, and the dessert for the meal was a beautifully decorated cake! The celebration was made perfect when the sun came out, allowing people to sit outside as well as at small tables in the Narthex.

Bragging Rights

Grandmother, JoAnna Meyer, has reason to be proud of her older granddaughter Mallory Meyer (13), as she was selected recently at her school in Miami Beach, Fl for an honor. Mallory was one of the students selected nationally, to attend the 2012 NATIONAL YOUNG LEADERS CONFERENCE (JrNYLC) held in Washington D.C. this month. She flew independently from her home in Miami Beach to D.C. where she joined the other students. During the week these students visited special historic sites, where they learned about and absorbed much information pursuant to the Civil War times.

They engaged in discussions, used critical thinking to debate opinions related to the actions taken by the patriots of the

time. Role playing was done, with students acting out military strategies, and family life at the time - in costume. Mallory returned from this trip with enhanced abilities, and is now ready to embrace her summer vacation! GO MALLORY!

This is the day our nephew, Army Gunnery Sergeant Todd Turner (25) deployed with his Engineering unit to Afghanistan from Fort Benning, Georgia. Todd was reassuring his son, Wyatt Turner (3) that Dad was doing this tour for our country with God's Blessing. Most of all since Wyatt, who is now man of the family must take care of his Mama.

Todd writes on his Facebook page that he hopes he was a good enough husband, father and Soldier. It makes me cry. Needless to say, I am very proud of these two gorgeous men.

The festivities include an opportunity to bid on a 7-night Princess Cruise for two.

Greetings, Generous Churches & Community Members:

THANK YOU for all the plastic grocery bags. We have plenty for the rest of the school year since there are only two more weeks to pack those sacks to go in the backpacks. We will save any more plastic bag contributions for next year!

THANKS to all the donations of money and food, we have not had to say NO to any requests for food backpacks that our schools have given us. We are feeding the hungriest kids; only 15% of those who qualify for FREE lunches. What a wonderful thing that our community does NOT let our kids go hungry on the weekends!

Now, we're working on making sure they do NOT go hungry during the summer. Permission slips have been sent home in the backpacks and they are continuing to come in. Since we are replacing the breakfasts and lunches they normally receive at school, and the 4 meals they receive in the backpack sacks, we will be providing boxes with food to replace 14 meals each week. Some boxes are picked up at Christ Lutheran where we pack them, but most are delivered all over the NM area.

The main thing we need is donations of money. If designated for the Food for Kids account, 100% will be used to purchase food. (Almost all of our main account funds also go

to purchase food, since we are all volunteers.) Please send donations to: NM Coalition of Churches and Community), (CCC, PO Box 1331, Belfair, WA, 98528.

Below and attached is a list of foods we will be including in the Summer Nutrition Boxes. We will also be purchasing milk, cheese, some meat, and fresh fruits and vegetables. There are several gardens dedicated to providing fresh vegetables for our kids! Yeah!

Food List for 2012 Summer Nutrition Food Boxes

Peanut butter, Canned Chicken or Turkey, 5, 10, or 12 oz., Canned tuna, Baked beans, Canned fruit, Canned vegetables, Cold cereal, (No sugar as 2nd ingredient, please!), Jam or jelly for pb&j sand, Bisquick, 64 oz., 100% juice, Individual 100% juice packets, Chili, Mac and Cheese, Soup, Oatmeal packets, Granola Bars

Please take to your church or to NM Chamber of Commerce.

If you wish to help with packing and delivering these food boxes, please respond to this email or call me at 275-6217. THANK YOU to those who have already volunteered. We have a lot of fun!

We are only able to feed these kids, and be sure they don't go to bed hungry, because you care!

Appreciatively, Monna Haugen (C. of C. C.)

Barry and Vicki's Big Adventure Continues

22 Sep. We awoke to bright sunshine, but it

had gotten quite cold during the night. After getting ready, we had breakfast at the hotel and prepared to leave Livigno. On the way out of town, we stopped at the old church that my great-grandfather would have attended. This church was originally built in 1300 and then rebuilt around the core of the old church in the early 1900's. We walked through the cemetery and found several headstones with the surname Raisoni. Many of the headstones have pictures so Barry took pictures of the headstone with picture. We then went inside the church and took a couple of pictures inside; it was beautiful. I felt quite emotional leaving Livigno; I really felt ties to this village. We left this beautiful valley at 10:00 am and began climbing higher into the Italian Alps, headed for Innsbruck, Austria. High in the Italian Alps, we saw some breathtaking sights and took many pictures. At around noon as we were cresting a pass through the Alps we learned that the pass we had intended to take into Austria had been closed due to the early storm that had blanketed the area with a beautiful snowfall. We turned around, after some maneuvering, and took another very narrow road that actually had us leave Italy and enter Switzerland. We kept driving and found several times that we changed countries between Switzerland and Italy. When I checked the map, I could see why. The border there was certainly not a straight line! We finally started descending into some beautiful valleys with lots of dairy farms and quaint homes and barns. We arrived in Innsbruck at around 4:00 pm and found our hotel and got checked in. I called Mom and told her all about Livigno and what we had found and what a great experience we had there. After that, we walked into the old part of Innsbruck with it's beautiful elaborate architecture. After walking around a bit to get our bearings, we found a nice sidewalk cafe around 6:00 and thought we'd order dinner. Much to our chagrin, we learned that we could not order dinner until 7:00 pm, so

we decided to have a glass of wine and watch people until 7:00. The seemed like a good plan, but then the chef didn't show up to work on time so it was awhile after 7:00 before we could order our meal. Even though we were getting hungry, we passed the time by just taking it all in and listening to all the varied languages being spoken around us. For the most part, people were dressed very fashionably and it was fun for me to see the different fashion trends. The cafe had a piano player and singer that began entertaining the patrons which was very nice. All the songs were American songs sung in English and we enjoyed our meal; the music and candle on the table created a lovely ambience.

23 Sep. Our 16th wedding anniversary. After

breakfast we walked back to the old section of town and took lots of pictures of the lovely old buildings and churches. The weather was a magnificent warm day, around 75 degrees. We walked to the tram station which would take us to the top of a mountain; actually we had to take two trams, one took you just so far and then you got off and entered another tram to take you the rest of the way. And we went waaaaaaay up the side of the mountain. Stupendous view; you could see nothing but Alps on all sides and what looked like a miniature town of Innsbruck down in the valley. We walked around a bit taking pictures and movies and talked to a group of women that were hiking out to camp for a couple of nights on the mountain. I have to admit that I'm a little afraid of heights, but would not have wanted to miss this mountain top experience! We saw people (much younger than us) hiking, running or biking up the side of the mountain. After we rode back down, we walked back to our hotel and rested a bit. I'm loving hearing the church bells wherever we go. They probably don't start tolling any earlier that 7:00 am and probably didn't go beyond 10:00 pm, but all during the day they would ring on the hour. I'll miss this when we come home! We went to dinner at the hotel at 7:00 and had a bottle of champagne to

celebrate our anniversary; Barry ordered wiener schnitzel and I had a wonderful braised beef and vegetables. For dessert, the wait staff brought us ice cream with berries and 2 lit sparklers stuck in the top. A special anniversary for sure here in Austria! Tomorrow we'll visit the Olympic Ski Jump and do some more sightseeing.
