August 9th, 2020 - Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
This Weekend’s Readings
TODAY’S READINGS: First Reading: 1 Kings 19:9a, 11-13a
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 85:9, 10, 11-12, 13-14
Second Reading: Romans 9:1-5
Gospel: Matthew 14:22-33
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION: “I wait for the Lord; my soul waits for his word.” - Psalm 130:5
19TH SUNDAY… THE GENTLE WHISPER THAT TELLS US TO REACH OUT TO GOD
Be still and know that I am God. Silence is sacred. Silence speaks the language of the soul and is the foundation of all
life and eternity itself. Silence takes us beyond the limits of our minds and allows us to seek and to love the essence of
all love, perfect love, and being. In silence, we can be non-verbally present to things and to God in ways that words
cannot accomplish. We can discover, encounter, and be present to truths that our minds struggle to conceive and then
set aside the boxes we put around things when comprehending them is challenging. We can know the unknowable and
touch eternity when we encounter the core silence in our souls.
We can do this even on a noisy street and in the midst of the greatest distraction. Once we have made friends with si-
lence, the rambling noise of the world no longer seems to matter, and we can carry a deep forgiving peace within us,
even when physical silence cannot be found. We know that we are loved, cared for, sustained, nourished, embraced,
and carried. There is nothing to fear in silence, and I can be present to myself in the same way that God is present to
me. I can see myself as God sees me. All of my faults, weaknesses, imperfections, failings, and sinfulness melt away
in the abundance of God’s mercy. All of the worldly things we see as being important no longer are.
It is in silence that all of the barriers that divide us disappear. There is no more “yours” and “mine” but only the one-
ness of “ours.” There is no longer a need to “figure things out,” and we tap into our desire to simply let things be.
Silence is powerful and gives us hope. Silence is God’s greatest blessing. God became one with humanity in silence. It
allows us to be one with all of creation, with the moon and the stars and all of the creatures God has made. The small-
est particle of creation radiates with beauty. Silence allows us to soar beyond ourselves and connect in ways that the
mind can only imagine. When all is quiet, we begin to see that it is only our fear that keeps us from the Lord. It is our
fear that causes us to sink and to fail. We can hear the gentle whisper that tells us to reach for God’s hand. We
discover that we yearn for the salvation and wholeness that only God can give to us. Be still my soul and be at peace.

Download the NEW St. Ignatius ‘My Parish App’
At the beginning of July, St. Ignatius Parish launched our own app for iPhone
and Android smart phones! This will allow us to better communicate with you
throughout the week and keep you updated with relevant parish news or up-
dates.
The app is very well designed and very intuitive. It will be a great resource for
parishioners and it will allow us to send you useful and important messages
throughout the week regarding our parish life and events, and allow you to re-
ply to messages or RSVP for events.
There will be no need for parishioners with smart phones to remember to si-
lence their phones before Mass. The app will send you a reminder to silence
your phone 20 minutes before the Mass you select.
Many more great features will be a help to all of us, such as, daily Mass
readings, Catholic news, prayers and prayer reminders, quick access to online
tithing, Confession reminders, and our weekly bulletin.
So, if you haven’t already done so, please download the app by visiting
https://myparishapp.com/, or by using the QR code, or by searching for myparish on your phone's
app store. After downloading, search for SAINT IGNATIUS and stay connected with us all
week long! THANK YOU to all those who have already downloaded the app!
We hope for our new app to be a tool for fostering stronger Parish life at St. Ignatius Parish and
better engaging the New Evangelization!
If you have any questions about this exciting new app, please contact the Parish Office.

PARISH NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
MEET TWO RECENT CONVERTS
Richard Charles “Chad” Kuriger IV I am grateful for this opportunity to further strengthen my relationship with God
through the Catholic Church and my experiences not only with the RCIA fellow-
ship but also with the family at Christ the Redeemer. I would specifically like to
thank O’Neil Miller for his leadership, Phil Pace for his extra education and guid-
ance and Adrienne Politowicz-Kuriger for her support and love.
I hail from a very spiritual if not religious family from Houston, Texas who has
always made time for Christ in our lives. After moving to Grand Cayman in 2018
and subsequently attending Mass, I felt a palpable energy at Christ the Redeemer,
which drew me closer. When approached about RCIA I was excited to learn
more. The Alpha and RCIA classes proved educational and reaffirming insofar
as being on the right path at the right time in my growth.
My children, Quinn, 23, Alexander, 21, and Catherine, 19, have all seen and felt the experience of a West Bay
Mass and with the Grace of God will continue to do so.
I am humbled to join the Catholic Faith to continue my spiritual journey.
Katherine Peguero Vidal My name is Katherine Peguero Vidal and I am 19 years old from Sabana Grande
de Palenque, Dominican Republic. I come from a Catholic family and I have al-
ways wanted to grow in knowledge of my faith and continue to do so. I first came
to Cayman to work last summer and since I hadn't yet partaken of the Sacraments,
I decided to join the RCIA class. Big thanks to Fr. Naveen and Mr. O’Neil Miller
for helping me make this dream come true and my prayer is that many more will
take this exciting journey closer to God!

MEET A RECENT CONFIRMANDI
Vanessa Murgio My name is Vanessa Murgio. I was born and raised in Brazil and have
since lived in Germany, United States (where I met my beloved husband),
and now we have been in Grand Cayman for 5 years.
I come from devout but non-practicing Christian origins, and have from
early age found connection and true interest in my faith. As I grew older
and moved around the globe, my faith increased, however my participation
in church and community was nearly nonexistent. I also realized that al-
though my faith was strong, my knowledge of Christian and Catholic his-
tory, traditions and doctrines was minimal. This discrepancy didn’t make
sense to me. So, I had been looking for opportunities to engage and learn
more but mostly was ashamed to join any parish due to my lack of knowl-
edge at adult age. My thirst and hunger for knowing more about God con-
tinued to increase, however, and I started listening to sermons online, read-
ing the Bible and coming to St. Ignatius Church alone, outside of mass
time, to pray and feel closer to God. One of those days I happened to be
there while Mr. O’Neil was teaching a group of teens. At the end of the
class I gathered up the courage to ask Mr. O’Neil if the church had classes for adults as well. I was then wel-
comed to the Alpha and RCIA classes and subsequently decided to gladly continue the journey towards my
Confirmation.
I have since learned so much, have met incredibly kind and loving people and have been inspired by this
church family’s selflessness and acceptance.
As I strive to be a better member of this family, I look forward to continue learning about my faith. I hope to
be able to help my brothers and sisters in need by making myself available to God as conduit of his uncondi-
tional love, compassion and grace. I look forward to sharing my testimony of wonderful things God has done
in my life and how He held my hand through my hardest days. And hopefully, with the Lord’s guidance and
my brothers and sisters’ support, patience and forgiveness towards to my shortcomings, I will be able to be-
come more and more the person God wants me to be.

The St. Ignatius/Dorothy Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund assists families who are not able to
afford the full tuition at St. Ignatius School (which averages about $9500 per year). Each year we
help to keep children in our school who otherwise couldn’t afford a Catholic Education.
Over the past 23 years we have assisted more than 180 children from over 120 families!
The average child in this programme receives about $200-$300 per month off the fees, paid by the
scholarship fund (directly to the school bursar), while the child’s family pays the rest.
In return for the help, the families actively contribute to the school and parish in a variety of ways (helping out with
fundraisers, chaperoning school trips, cleaning the grounds, assisting at sports days, serving on committees, etc.).
How you can help:
On-line transfers can be done through Butterfield Bank… please e-mail [email protected] for details.
Donations can also be sent in by mail to PO Box 2638, Grand Cayman, KY1-1102. If paying by cheque, please
make your donations payable to: ST. IGNATIUS, and in the memo, please indicate “Scholarship Fund”.
Perhaps your company would like to assist with regular contributions OR a one-off donation?
Please consider the Scholarship Fund from time to time when doing your charitable work throughout the year!
Many thanks to all those who have contributed to the fund during recent months and during the past several years!
For further information, please contact Jeremy Rice in the Parish Office or via e-mail: [email protected].
