“Catch the Spirit—Growing Together in Christ”
13TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
* CONFESSION / FORGIVENESS
In the name of the Father, and of the † Son, and of The Holy Spirit. Amen
God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that
we may confess our sin, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
(kneel as able) Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to
sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we
have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we
have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead
us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen
In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for
* APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,

The Stewardship Corner…
On Sunday, August 27 a Stewardship Mission Minute explained that
every now-and-then a fresh view on our financial giving is worthwhile. During the next few weeks we will pass on some information about
“Why We Give” as summarized by the ELCA. This week we begin with the topic
Why We Give
Understanding what the Bible says about financial generosity can help
us achieve a balanced plan for our giving.
The faith practice of regular offerings to our congregation is grounded in a “first fruits” biblical principle.
From 1 Corinthians 16:2—“On the first day of every week, each of you is to put aside and save whatever extra you earn, so that collections
THE CHIMNEY REBUILD PROJECT— STATUS UPDATE
We have finalized the selection of the two brick
colors for the chimney rebuild efforts. Bricks will be
sourced locally through Mathie Supply, Inc. in North Canton by Quality Masonry Company, Inc., our
masonry contractor. It is currently estimated that work on the chimney will begin this week.
Project duration is estimated at four (4) weeks.
Total cost to rebuild the chimney will be $33,930. As of August 27 our funding efforts have yielded
$23,923, so we are just 20.3% short of our
project goal of $30,000. Your continued help is needed to close the gap in our project fundraising.
Thank you for your generous contributions to date.
Prop- erty Chair, Alex 79.7% to Goal as of August 27, 2017

The ELCA’s “God’s Work, Our Hands” Sunday will be
September 17 for St. Jacob Lutheran Church. We will once again be gathering non-perishable food items and
canned goods for the disadvantaged. Please place your items on the cart in the narthex for this event.
