• Students to work on final assessment piece

Week 15A

(18/05-

22/05)

Theory

Submit Final Response

• Students to complete final write up of assessment item

Week 16B

(25/05-

29/05)

Theory

8 – Plant Systems

• describe the role of stomata and guard cells in controlling the movement of gases (oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapour) in leaves

• explain how the leaf facilitates that gas exchange (oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapour) in plants

• explain the relationship between photosynthesis and the main tissues of leaves (spongy and palisade mesophyll, epidermis, cuticle and vascular bundles)

• describe and contrast the structure and function of xylem and phloem tissue (sieve tubes, sieve plates, companion cells)

• explain how water and dissolved minerals move through xylem via the roles of root pressure, transpiration stream and cohesion of water molecules

• discuss the factors (light, temperature, wind, humidity) that influence the rate of transpiration

• explain the transport of products of photosynthesis and some mineral nutrients via translocation in the phloem.

Week 17A

(1/06-5/06) Theory

9 – Homeostasis

6 | P a g e

• recall that homeostasis involves a stimulus-response model in which change in the condition of the external or internal environment is detected and appropriate responses occur via negative feedback

• recognise that sensory receptors detect stimuli and can be classified by the type of stimulus

• recall that effectors are either muscles (which contract in response to neural stimuli) or glands (which produce secretions)

• interpret feedback control diagrams for either nervous or hormonal systems (i.e. recognise stimulus, receptors, control centre, effector and communication pathways)

• understand that metabolism describes all of the chemical reactions involved in sustaining life and is either catabolic or anabolic

• explain why changes in metabolic activity alter the optimum conditions for catalytic activity of enzymes (with reference to tolerance limits).

Week 18B

(8/06-12/06) Theory

9 – Homeostasis

Learning Goal – see above

Week 19A

(15/06-

19/06)

Theory

10 – Neural Signalling

• identify cells that transport nerve impulses from sensory receptors to neurons to effectors

• discriminate between a sensory neurone and a motor neurone (consider dendrites, soma, body, axon, myelin sheath, nodes of Ranvier, axon terminal and synapse)

• explain the process of the passage of a nerve impulse in terms of transmission of an action potential (conduction within neuron) and synaptic transmission (communication between neurones). Refer to neurotransmitters, receptors, synaptic cleft, vesicles, postsynaptic and presynaptic neurones and signal transduction

Week 20B

(22/06-

23/06)

Theory

11 – Hormonal Signalling

• recall that hormones are chemical messengers (produced mostly in endocrine glands) that relay messages to cells displaying specific receptors for each hormone via the circulatory or lymphatic system

• recognise how a cell’s sensitivity to a specific hormone is directly related to the number of receptors it displays for that hormone (an increase in receptors = upregulation, a decrease = downregulation)

• describe how receptor binding activates a signal transduction mechanism and alters cellular activity (results in an increase or decrease in normal processes).

Study of Religion Unit overview: 7 weeks

Conduct an inquiry into the World of the Text aligning your analysis to an Ultimate Question.

Length: Research Assignment 1500 words.

Learning intentions:

Students will be able to

• describe the characteristics of religion and religious traditions

• identify and account for the distinguishing features of religion and religious traditions.

• demonstrate an understanding of religious traditions

• explain the ways in which religion is expressed in the lives of adherents.

• differentiate between religious traditions

• determine the distinct characteristics of the religious belief

• evaluate the ways in which individuals interpret and live the tradition in relation to the ultimate question.

Key Concepts and learning plan to complete final task supported in Online learning OneNote.

1. What are the tools and approaches required to undertake and exegesis and Sacred texts?

Exegesis Exegesis [< Greek > exgeisthai (to interpret) < ex- (out) + ègeisthai (to lead). To interpret a text by way of a thorough analysis of its content. When you do exegesis,

• you are an exegete who is exegeting the text.

• described as being exegetical. In its most basic Bible-relevant meaning, you are finding out what the text originally was saying through its author in the passage.

2. Synchronic and Diachronic approaches to text

• Synchronic (with time)

• Diachronic (through time)

3. World of the text. Text is read through different lenses

• World behind the Text = context of the time. We need to know the values, beliefs and the

pollical and cultural milieu (fabric). E.g. the life of Jesus cannot be understood without

understanding the power of Pharisees and observance of the Torah and the struggle of the

peoples of Judaea under Roman rule.

• World of the text = the actual text, characters, events, literary genre and purpose.

• World in front of the text = the reader’s experience and how the text speaks to them over

time. E.g. in the time of Hebraic monotheism handed down from Abraham to the House of

David the reading may be literal in line with the values of the time. In the 21st Century the

reader comes to the text from a modern perspective trying to understand the text and how

to apply it to ultimate questions.

4. Texts selections for research task. The exegesis must be performed from one of the following texts:

• Book of Job (Judaism) o Gods Sovereignty and Suffering

• Creation (Christianity)

12 | P a g e

o Genesis 1 – 3

• This is the Truth (Islam) o Saad 38

5. Ultimate questions. In your research you are to apply the exegesis of the text to examine one of the following:

• Where do we come from?

• What happens when we die?

• Why are we here?

• Why is there evil and suffering in the world?

6. Terminology and Sentence starters

• Philosophical terminology must be incorporated into your writing to display sophistication in

thought and language

• Sentence starters provided to help with greater sophistication in communication

7. Success criteria

• Model response – what might my essay look like

8. Cognitive Verbs (QCAA) These cognitions need to be evident

i. Describe

ii. Identify

iii. Account

iv. Demonstrate

v. Explain

vi. Analyse

vii. Evaluate

viii. Determine

ix. Interpret

9. The Research Process – This process has a cheklist

• Research process templates

i. Research investigation guide task sequence checklist

ii. Research evaluation

iii. Thesis statement guide

iv. Referencing using Microsoft word ‘References’

v. Draft Planning concept map

10. Collaboration

i. Collaborate with peers in the designated space. Genesis/ Job/ Saad

ii. Give positive and constructive feedback to peers. Try not to say great idea when in

fact it may not be.

iii. Try to give feedback where direction is needed using a phrase such as. I can see what

you are thinking, have you thought about?

11. Drafting- Use Peel and WTE tools

i. Concept maps / Introduction Thesis statement
