A message from our priests
Thank you to
essentials workers for having the Heart of Jesus.
Hi, it’s me again, Father Luciano. How are you doing? Are you still alive? Hmm… sorry! I
mean, are you still alive, spiritually? In any case, it’s a good thing to still be alive both spiritually and physically.
This Sunday’s Gospel comes from the evangelist Luke 24,13-35. It tells about two disciples of Jesus who were walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus. Do you remember that story? Good!
As you know, this is a story about profound disappointment and sorrow. It is a story that starts with a depressing walk and ends with an excited running. The two disciples Cleopas and the other with an unknown name, full of joy ran back to Jerusalem because Jesus had appeared to them. I like this picture of Jesus appearing to them.
During this period of Coronavirus, this story speaks to us. We now feel that we are not on a positive journey; we feel that we are walking through a tunnel and there is no way we can see light at the end of it; we feel that we are simply walking slowly towards an unknown future. This story speaks to those of us who might think they have no energy for anything positive, and to whom God comes to meet as they struggle to put one foot in front of the other. It is a story that is very truthful about hopelessness and loss, but it is also about how God comes to find us in such circumstances. It shows how God walks with us and can transform even the deepest bereavement into a journey of hope. This is a story that invites those who are deep in sorrow to walk in hope again. Don’t worry, Jesus will appear to us again.
Watching the news, I saw tears on the faces of people forced to sell their wedding rings to the pawnbrokers because of layoffs or lack of work. I remember a particular time in my own life when I did not want to get out of bed, days when I felt that the weight of grief was too much to bear, days when I did not care about very much at all.
Today’s Gospel talks about hope and faith, it talks about Res-urrection, as I said in my Easter Sunday message, our resurrec-tion.
When Jesus was walking beside the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, they didn’t recognize him, only at the breaking of the bread they realized it was him. Though it was late in the evening and it was dark, they no longer felt hopeless, nor did they feel as if they were in a dark tunnel. They perceived a glimpse of light and they decided to go back full of joy to Jeru-salem because Jesus appeared to them.
Peace, Father Luciano

Stewardship Reflection
April 26, 2020 - 3rd Sunday of Easter
“Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the scriptures?” (Luke 24:32)
How often do we take the time to discern what Jesus wants from us? Are our prayers always petitions, asking Jesus to do things
for us? If so, that’s a one-sided relationship. Living our faith means developing a personal relationship with Jesus. Just like
any friendship, there is give and take, each side listening to each other and helping each other out. Take time in silence to listen to
what Jesus is asking of you.
