No servant can
serve two masters.
He will either hate one
and love the other,
or be devoted to one
and despise the other.
You cannot serve
both God and mammon.

OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL In today's Gospel we see that prudent decisiveness means that we recognize that all our choices in daily living are really choices for eternal life. Admission into heaven is something money cannot
buy. The only currency that has any value to secure our entrance is that of love. As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Donation Box, know that you are a sign of God's love to those who are suffering. The Donation boxes are located in the foyer of each church. Our next meeting is Thursday, September 26 at 6:45pm at St. John Parish Center. All are welcome!

WOMEN CALLED TO BE Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at 6:30 pm
Powers Hall and Chapel at St. John the Evangelist In so many ways, women are called to do God’s work in the world. It is only fitting that “Women Called to Be” is this year’s theme for the collaborative Evening for Women programs. All women of the collaborative are welcome to join us on Tuesday, October 1 when three Boston College School of Theology Doctoral candidates (Beth Barsotti, Katie Mahowski and Laurel Marshall) offer personal reflections and a panel discussion regarding women’s call to ministry. Please come! We will convene in St. John’s Powers Hall at 6:30pm with the program starting in St. John’s Chapel at 7:00pm. As always we will share in a potluck supper in Powers Hall following the discussion. Please bring a plate or beverage to share if you are able. You are warmly invited to bring along a friend to share in the journey of "Women Called To Be".

ST. JOHN UPDATE
Our Religious Education Team has been busy pouring some extra love into our 9AM Family Mass. Come by and be greeted by smiling faces, pick up a 'family friendly' worship aid with crayon kits and sign up to be a part of the celebration as collection-takers and gift-bearers. Bringing young children to Mass can be
challenging, and we are working to make the worship experience even more enjoyable for kids and adults!
This past week SJS students started Fall MAP assessments. MAP
assessments are used to measure a student's growth academically in
core subjects that include Reading and Mathematics. The Fall MAP assessment
gathers baseline data for each individual student, which helps teachers plan and
cater their curriculum to student needs. SJS students will once again take these
assessments in the winter. These assessments are bene$icial in that they are used to
chart a student's academic growth from year to year. Our teachers use MAP
assessments as teaching tools to guide young learners to succeed and thrive
academically. Want to learn more about our school and programs? Call or email
781-235-0300 or [email protected] to experience the SJS difference!

Healthier Priests. Stronger Communities.
Funds from this special collection are managed by the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust – an independently managed trust with a majority lay board of trustees. The funds are used for the sole benefit of active and senior priests in good standing.
The strength and vibrancy of our communities depend largely on the welfare of our priests who tirelessly serve others from all walks of life.
Powerful examples of strength in community are visible across 144 cities and towns of the Archdiocese of Boston. The roots of these communities can be traced back to the work of our priests.
Pine Street Inn: A Boston priest was one of the original founders of Pine Street Inn, which provides shelter and emergency services for nearly 2,000 homeless men and women in the Boston area every day.
Cor Unum: Started by a Lawrence pastor, Cor Unum (“One Heart”) food pantry serves more than 250,000 meals annually to poverty-stricken families in Lawrence.
Addiction Support for Families: A Boston priest’s expertise in addiction and recovery has been instrumental for organizations helping families and individuals in the grips of addiction.
Rostro de Cristo: Efforts to help the poor on the margins of Ecuador’s largest city is hard work, except for those who have been inspired by a Boston priest who started Rostro de Cristo, an organization based in Boston that lives the Gospel and serves the poor.
It’s simple: healthier priests mean stronger communities. Please support clergytrust.org
