Dear Brothers and Sisters - Queridos Amigos,

On March 13th to March 14th, the Vatican is hoping churches worldwide will participate in an initiative to stay open for 24 hours to underline the need for prayer, contemplation of the Eucharist and a chance to go to confession.

This resource “will enable all people, be they near or distant from the Church, to reflect upon and celebrate the great gift of God’s mercy and forgiveness.”

In response to the invitation of Our Pope Francis in his message for LENT 2018, “One such moment of grace will be, again this year, the “24 Hours for the Lord” initiative, which invites the entire Church community to celebrate the sacra-ment of Reconciliation in the context of Eucharistic adoration. Inspired by the words of Psalm 130:4, “With you is for-giveness”, this will take place from Friday, March 9th at 4:00 p.m. to Saturday, March 10th to 4:00 p.m. in each dio-cese. At least one church will remain open for twenty-four consecutive hours, offering an opportunity for both Eucharistic adoration and sacramental confession.

For the Diocese of Oakland, St. John the Baptist has been chosen for this event. I invite you all to take advantage this op-portunity to obtain an abundance of grace through Eucharistic adoration.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS FOR LENT— Bilingual Stations will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Fridays during Lent, beginning on February 16th through March 23rd.

Everyone is invited to attend weekly. Specific ministries or groups, both English and Spanish, have been assigned to lead each week.

COMMUNITY LIFE VIDA COMUNITARIA

St. Vincent De Paul at St. John’s serving the poor

in the main SVDP dining room in Oakland.

Five of us went Wednesday, 2/21/18, and served 628 home-less people.

Five of us went Friday, 2/23/18, and served 524 homeless people.

We start at 9AM preparing food and getting the dining room ready and then from 10:45 to 1PM we serve the food.

Any and all are invited to volunteer. You don’t have to be a SVDP member. People are served six days a week, Tuesday thru Saturday.

We celebrated the Sacrament of First Reconciliation with our 2nd grade class this past weekend. The stu-dents were well prepared for this very special occa-sion with the caring guidance of their teacher, Ms. Magno. The students seemed eager and confident in sharing their hearts with the priests and in vowing to God to do better. Our families gathered round and supported one another and served as an example of Jesus’ steadfast love for His children. We couldn’t be prouder of our students and the way they con-ducted themselves with poise, reverence, and grace. We are also grateful for the support Fr. Ser-gio, Fr. Thi, Mrs. Elliott and Ms. Child provided our 2nd grade class. Our hearts were warmed by the inter-action between the families during the ser-vice. Congratulations to our students on their re-ceiving the sacrament of Reconciliation.
