Patrons’s ReportAs the curtain goes down on the 2005 season and the clubs 52nd year I would like to thank CiaronBurns, George Bakhos, George Habib, George Saab, Mark Brown and Fady Ghanem for their com-mitment and organisation in this successful year.

With 312 registered players the club was again a force to be reckoned with, fielding 18 teams inthe Canterbury Bulldogs Junior Rugby League Competition from under 6 to C Grade. Of these 18teams 16 were in competition with 12 making the semi- finals. Of these 12 teams 6 made theGrand Final and of these 6 grandfinalists St John's won five Premierships. I congratulate thePremiers under, 9, 10r, 11, 14 and First XIII along with all players who competed with tenacity andsportsmanship throughout the year and gained the Club First position in the Club Championship.

St John's Eagles is very much part of the local community, not only well respected for their hardand fair play but for their community work namely ANZAC DAY march, Mothers Day and Gala Daysevents. Congratulations always goes to the coaches and players but we all know the club wouldn'tbe in the position they are today without the managers, trainers, canteen workers, mums and dadswho transport the players and all the supporters who encourage the players and coaches sostrongly. For all the significant adults in the adolescent's lives who take time to relate; Thank you.

The school teachers at Holy Spirit College who coach Rugby League teams owe a big debt to StJohn's Eagles. Holy Spirit students love their rugby league, when we call for tryouts for any leagueteam we have over 50 gearing up. Invariably the school teams comprise many St John's Eaglesplayers with their discipline and skills they have learnt from their coaches and experiences from StJohn's weekend football. Needless to say Holy Spirit College dominate their inter- school compe-titions with all teams making the Grand Final this year with all but one winning the Premiership. This has been a tradition since the school began. This years Arrive Alive Team were controversial-ly beaten in the last minute of the Bulldogs District Final; a fine achievement. An U/15 Holy Spiritteam represented the Bulldogs in the NSW All Schools Carnival and were undefeated in all fivegames to take out this Championship event. Congratilations to all Holy Spirit players and thankyou St. Johns for all you have done in preparing them. As we know many will go on to make afine career in the game.

The association with the club and Holy Spirit College has never been stronger. As I look to thefuture I am certain this proud association with St John's Eagles will continue and 2006 will beanother successful year.Your generosity and unpaid efforts will always be appreciated.

Presidents ReportWell what a great season 2005 has turned out to be for St. Johns. Out of 16teams in competitions 12 made it to semi finals with 6 making it to the grandfinal. Of this, 5 teams went on to become premiers. St. Johns has once againtaken out the Mod club championship the Senior club championship and theOverall club championship. Sponsorship is at an all time high and along with agreat year in our canteen the clubs finances have never looked better.

All our success this year is a credit to all involved at the club not least the play-ers, your efforts mirror the success we have achieved. With a heavy emphasis on Code of Conductthis year you have shown great discipline, congratulations and thank you.

To all our coaches and your coaching staff, your professional attitude and commitment has led inno small part to a successful 2005. The time and effort you put into preparing your teams has beengreat, well done.

A successful club needs good leadership. This year the committee has been a pleasure to beinvolved with. They are all hard working, enthusiastic, committed guys who really care about St.Johns. I must make special mention of our Secretary George Bakhos, I have never seen anyonework harder. In his first year in this position his efforts have been outstanding.

While this year has been a success we must always look to continue to improve. There are areaswe will be pushing to pick up our efforts in next year and the years to come. The main area wouldbe parent involvement. We encourage new parents and old parents of the club to get involved. Putyour name forward as a manager or trainer, help out in the canteen or just step up as a timekeep-er we would love and appreciate your help.

I would like to make special mention of this years First XIII, only the fifth premiership we have wonsince the inception of the under 15's as our premier side in the club. To Chris, Claude, Mark, Joey,Fady and the entire team congratulations.

A club this size needs plenty of finances to operate and sponsorship is integral to this. To all ofsponsors thank you for your valued assistance. To our major sponsor Punchbowl Ex Services andCommunity Club a special thanks for your continued support, it is very much appreciated.

I hope 2005 has been an enjoyable time for you at St. Johns. I look forward to seeing you all in2006 where we face the challenge of continued and further success. Enjoy your break and comeback re-charged for the year ahead.

I wish you all and your families a safe and Happy Christmas and New Year.

Secretary’s ReportWOW! What a year, 2005 has come and gone and St Johns has enjoyed a stellar year. This year wefielded 18 teams and had 312 registered players. In under 6s we fielded two sides who played in anon competition format. Of the other 16 teams we fielded, 12 were semi-finalists and out of those12 teams 6 were grand finalists and out of those 6 teams 5 were Premiers. Congratulations to the9s, 10res, 11s, 14s, and yes even our FIRST XIII for winning their competitions. Well done also tothe 10s who narrowly lost in the big one. And to all the other teams, job well done and maybe 2006will be your year. On top of that we must congratulate the 9s and10s for competing in knockoutsagainst teams from all over NSW and both teams being knockout champions.

On the representative scene St Johns had a fantastic year with 11 current players featuring in Canterbury sides fromHarold Matthews to Premier League. This year we saw old boy Clifford Maanu make his First Grade debut for theSharks, Cliffy played for St Johns from 1995-2001. It is also a testament to everyone involved in St Johns that we mustbe doing something right as Canterbury has invited 21 of our players from Under 15s to Under 18s to trial for rep sidesfor 2006. We wish all these boys the best and urge them to strive to do the best they can.

This year also saw St Johns win the Mod, International and Overall Cub Championships, and in another milestone StevePage from our 18s was voted best player in the Canterbury Bankstown District for Under 18s to A Grade.Congratulations must also go to Adam Rehayem from our 14s for winning a Gow Gates Scholarship to the NSWRLAcademy.

Off the field St Johns also enjoyed great success as the club came together at functions like our Family B.B.Q at BegnellOval which was attended by 500 people. The Red Faces night was a great night. Although not every team had an actevery team was present on the night to encourage all the acts. Congratulations to the Under 6s and 7res on winningRed Faces. The Gala Days and Mothers Day promotion are the envy of the League. All visiting teams were surprisedon Gala Day that they received medallions and were allowed on the jumping castle and even had their face paintedfor FREE; and as always the mums were very grateful for the glass of bubbly and roses on Mothers Day. The way theSt Johns Family rallied behind their teams on grand final days was also commented on by all the other clubs andCanterbury officials and I assure you the kids really love seeing a big and vocal crowd supporting them. They alsoloved running through the Grand Final banner designed and made by the Mamary Family, I believe all the family hadsome input except Noel. Undoubtedly the biggest highlight of the year off the field would have to be the Sportsman'sDinner with over 260 people in attendance it was truly a great success. A big thanks goes out to George Saab, JulieBrown, Mark Brown and Fady Ghanem for all their hard work in organising and planning of the night.

All the success that St Johns enjoyed in 2005 comes back to the people of the club and the effort everyone puts in.Without your support none of this would be possible. 2005 saw a lot of new people join our club and the way they puttheir hand up and got involved with the club really showed their understanding and showed their pride to be part ofthe St Johns family. While everyone gave a hand there are a few people I would like to acknowledge at this point intime and if I do miss anyone I sincerely apologise. Firstly to Ciaron Burns club president and George Habib vice pres-ident these two men were the pillars behind this club while the rest of us got involved in our petty squabbles thesetwo never lost sight of the big picture and kept the club steered in the right direction congratulations on a job welldone. Also a big thank you to the Abou-Haider, Achmar, Allaze, Ayoub, Azzi, Bakhos, Bayad, Bechara, Bortone, Brown,Burns, Chakty, El-Azzi, El-Cheik, El-Eche, Fayad, Ghanem, Habib, Haddad, Hennings, Inia, Karam, Khoury, Malkoun,Mamary, Matuaina, McGrath, Michaels, Nakad, Nasr, Noujam, Paulson, Roumanous, Saab, Safetly, Siale, Singh,Tarchichi, Tasker and Trostel Families. This year was fantastic because of you.

So once again to ALL players, parents, team officials and the committee of St Johns congratulations on a great yearand thanks for your support. See you in 2006.

George Bakhos (Secretary)

Treasurer’s ReportI am just as surprised as everyone else that I am preparing the 2005 Treasurersreport . I suppose I got this responsibility after our elected treasurer took sometime off to get married and enjoy their Honeymoon (congratulation to Fady andMelissa)

But before the Honeymoon was the bucks party, a trip to Vegas, half the executiveand some coaches went M I A, incidentally this trip will feature in 2006 on thepopular program C S I, You know with the blue light and all

After looking at previous treasurers reports, I can confidently say that season 2005, financially, hasbeen the most successful in St Johns history.

This could not be achieved without the contribution of several people, Pierre and Catherine Fayedwho annually take it upon themselves to organise the Chocolate Drive, the many that help in thecanteen each weekend and setting up the field, George Bakhos and his Family, Julie Brown for hergreat effort with the sportsman dinner, this year we had 210 in attendance (last year 85), a greateffort for a great night.

For our kids to play a game of Rugby League there are numerous expenses. A club with 300 play-ers, 18 teams, 65 people on coaching staff, a training ground plus lighting as well as our homeground, training equipment, first aid kits, shorts, socks .All of this has a cost factor.

Our sponsors provide good financial support through their donations. Special thanks to PunchbowlR S C, also Paul Tycehurst and C B D J R L whose grants are really appreciated (both CanterburyLeagues and Revesby Workers) and of course all the other team Sponsors whose contributions areinvaluable.

Finally for season 2006 we look forward to starting the year in a very sound financial position forthe first time ever.

Under 6 BlackGreat Season

Our Under 6 blacks played well this season and will get a lot better in years to come. The teamrecorded three wins in the year and another in a post season gala day. The children gave 100% inevery game they played and each one enjoyed playing.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents and children for their support and effortthroughout the season, and I would like to also thank Norm (trainer), Catherine (trainer), andCarlene (manager) for their help, both on and off the field.

Napier Paulson (coach)

Player ProfilesJacob Antoun was one of the smallest players on the team, Jacob loved running the ball and never showed

fear of getting tackled. Played with a lot of heart.George Yarak showed a lot of strength and knowledge of the game; he ran hard at the line and was often

the first to score for the team.Jeffrey Fale has two good abilities he can run the ball at the line fast and is also able to offload while

getting tackled. Jeffrey can only get better.Jy Paulson was perhaps the fastest on the paddock and made a lot of try saving tackles for the team.Tarkin Dinclik has made slight improvement throughout the year but improving nonetheless.Daniel Sweid showed his passion for football in his first training session and enjoyed every game he played.

Excellent in broken field attacks.Adam Mahajna has a good game he can play awesome and can read the defence very well, which resulted in

his first try of the season.Joseph Khoury is an intelligent player and a good strong runner of the ballChristian Saofaileta is a strong player and can run hard at times. Look out for him next year.

Ahmad Douar enjoys training and game days he also (like his team mates) looks forward to running the ballduring the games. Ahmad is also good in defence.

Assad Achmar arrived later in the year but has shown a lot of strength in running the ball and can defendwell

Joseph Tannous also arrived later in the season, he has turned out to be a very enthusiastic player. Scored his first against East Hills.

Under 6 WhiteGreat Season

St Johns Under 6 Whites had a lot of new players to the team but we also saw the return of ouryoungsters from last year. The skills and abilities soon came out in the beginning of the seasonrather than the end and developed a lot of exciting games to watch.

The best highlights of the season was when we played Dragons in both the home and the awaygames. The two teams are equally matched and both sides enjoyed playing with each other.

Once again for another year I would like to thank Pauline Brown (coach) for all her time, patienceand dedication to the team . I would also like to thank Lynette Brown(manager) for all her workand early wake ups to score and finally to Pierre Fayad (trainer) for all that yummy water supplyeach week and to the parents for bringing the children both to training and to the games.

Player ProfilesDavid Abboud Is our tackling machine and a player that never says ‘I give up',if he got tackled more than

likely he would turn his way out of their hands and make more ground.Leila Allazze From last year to this year you would not think it is the same person (it must be the boots)

Leilas biggest asset was scoring from dummy half.Andrei Bakhos changed dramatically from last year. He ditched the red frogs and hit the try line and

from that point there was no stopping him.Raymon Chakty From being lost at the concept and thinking he had to tackle his own team member to

tackling anything that came his way and making sure they stay down.Dean El-Eche is one of the new players and also is the youngest player. He showed a lot of improvement

from the beginning of the season to the end.Nathan Fayad This is Nathans second year and he is a great tackler for the team. With another year in

under 6s he will be well and truly ready for under 7s in 200710

Page 11: St Johns Eagles JRLFC Incstjohnseagles.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/2005.pdfthe Canterbury Bulldogs Junior Rugby League Competition from under 6 to C Grade. Of these 18 teams

David Hatem has the ability to be a great player and will show his true colours with the skills he picked upfrom Pauline.

Elias Hatem has another year in under 6s and shows the ability like his brother to do some very good tackling and towards the end of the season we saw that skill come out.

Suzanna Safetly This is Suzies second year in under 6s and she showed us a couple of good runs. Suzie will have fun in the under 7s next year.

Daniel Silva is one of our new players and he looked like he really enjoyed the game.lt was a new experience in learning with his team.

Shamie Singh Shamie was our first receiver and improved a lot since last year. She should also have a lot offun in the under 7s.

Jamesville Woll is our star player. If there was a play to read he was 'the man'. James would find any gap andif not he would create one, his skills and abilities are way beyond under 6s.

Under 7Semi Finalist

What a great season of football with many memorable moments to look back on. We started theyear with six players from last year and four new ones that hadn't played before. From our firstgame I knew we had a very good team. We ended up with 12 wins, 3 loses and a draw in the 16rounds. The finals proved to be too much for the boys losing both the pre-lim and semi final, butlearning some valuable lessons and experiences. I am very proud of every one of them for sucha wonderful year. They all played a big role in all our success for the season. Some of the high-lights were beating Dragons on their turf, playing at Telstra Stadium and the Show ground and allthe players scoring points this year, especially Fatu who scored a try in every game.

I would like to thank all the parents that helped out at training, our touchies Robert Mansour andEddie Saade and all the coaching staff.

Frank Trostel (Coach)

Player ProfilesAnthony El Azzi Enthusiastic runner, always tried his best in defence.Daniel Mansour Very good footballer, played above his age, third highest point scorer.Fatu Togagae Our captain and best player, Man of the Match in every game. Lead by example and would

not be the same team without him. Out scored, out tackled and out ran everybody.Frankie Trostel Our acting half with safe hands and always keen in defence.George Saade Eager runner with the ball, always involved and improved with every game.John Kaufusi Our first receiver, good ball skills and chased in defence till he got his man.John Paul Nakad Strong hitups and some hard tackles, could have scored more tries, player of the future.

Under 7 ReservesSemi Finalist

The St Johns Under 7res was formed 4 days before the competition started. We started the season with 9 players ofwhich 3 were girls (Georges angels) and out of the 9 only 2 had played football previously - Stephanie and Domonique. Two weeks into the competition, we recruited Brandan into the side. The aim of the season was to learn the basics ofrugby league and more importantly to have FUN.

This side renewed my faith in rugby league and what it stood for. Every week these kids would turn up to training keento learn and would implement everything we tried at training into the following weeks game. They developed a strongbond and urged each other to always do their best. These kids really grasped the concept that rugby league is a TEAMsport and to succeed everyone has to contribute.

The most pleasing aspect of this side is the fact that they always believed in themselves and no one ever shirked theirresponsibilities; this was most evident in the game against Moorebank in the last competition round. Moorebank werethe competition leaders and we needed to win this game to qualify for the semi-finals. The team took the field withthe attitude that there was no way they would come off the field without every player giving it their best shot. In theend we won the game and qualified for the semi-finals and relegated Moorebank from top spot on the ladder. Whilethe win was fantastic the most pleasing aspect of the game was the fact that of the seven tries we scored in that gameeach was scored by a different player and in defence EVERY player made at least one crucial tackle that stopped theopposition scoring.

Finally I must thank Vivian my manager, Billy and Louie my trainers and Daniel my assistant coach for all the supportand encouragement that you gave the kids and myself during the year. To the parents thanks for your efforts all yearwithout you none of this is possible, it was pleasing to see parents fighting over whose turn it was to wash the jer-seys you all wanted to do it every week. Also to all the sisters and brothers of our team thanks for your help at train-ing and game days.

Under 10Grand Finalist s

This season Under 10 Grade had a very challenging season. We started with two new players(Michael & Riley). They never played football before but they picked up the game really wellthroughout the season. Early in the season we lost two games to Berala & two games to Padstow,so it was time to rebuild our confidence in the third round. We beat Berala 43-22 & Padstow 33-27 in the third round. Our young players started to believe in themselves with our main playersleading all the way to the Grand Final. It was tough and frustrating . The boys had more chancesto win the grand final but things didn't go our way and when you try too hard, more mistakes. Itwas hard for me to see the kids so upset when they failed to do what they had in mind, but let metell you, when you make mistakes that's when you learn and it can only make you a better player.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my coaching staff: trainers - Michael Funaki & JohnTafao, managers - Suliana Siale & Julie Michael, for all their hard work and continuous support thatmade my job a lot easier throughout the season. To the parents who help out at training, SiaosiSiale, Valenitini Vaikeli, Joe Maree, Brett for the passing equipment. A special thank you to ourtouch judge Tanielu who supplied our drinks for the boys every week, to Sue Maree for washingour jersys every week, to George Malkoun for supplying man of the match ($10.00) each week,to Luisa & family for transporting of players, to our Ball boys Ronny Maree, Dillon Singh, DanielTuulau, Igo Faaui & William Siale, Ball Girls Easther Tafao & Stephanie Michael, Sateki & Georgefor filming our games every week. A big thank you to our sponsor, Moraitis Family, Leaders in FreshProduce for their generous & continuous support. And last but not least I would like to thank allthe St Johns executives, coaching staff, parents, supporters & players for their support throughoutthe season.

Player ProfilesRiley Tasker (second row) His first year in the game, strong player. Needs time to build his confidence.Terry Tafao (hooker) A great hooker, always backs up his team.Tevin Singh (hooker) He's not as big as the other players, but likes to challenge any one on the field.Misieli Vaikeli (second row) He had no fear, very aggressive in both attacking and defence, one of our

tackling machine on the field. (Most Improvement) Michael Guthrie (half back) His first year in the game. The smallest one in U10, has a heart of a lion, won't

backdown without a fight. Very smart player. (Most Improvement)Luke Michael (prop) He can take the ball up in the ruck area, find the hole or just step through the defence.Jason Tuulau (second row) You can't run away from him, solid in defence. Got more confidence in his

attacking towards the end of season.Jacob Malkoun (prop) Gave 100% in almost every game. Loves to put a big hit on the big boys, knows how

to draw the defence before some great off loads.Tony Taei (prop) Our biggest forward for the season. Started to find confidence towards the end,

unstoppable near the tryline.Joshua Maree (five-eighth) Very smart player, organized some of the best tries from his kicks in the game.Nikolai Siale (winger) Start off the season as half-back, mid season found himself on the wing. Often

underestimated by the oppositions by shocking them with his speed & powerful runs.Shane Faaui (winger) He's one of the best wingers in the competition. He scored some of the best triesin the finals. (Player of the Finals)Valupei Lui (second row) Early in the season he was one of our best attacking players, towards the end

he pulled some big tackles.Salesi Funaki (centre) What can I say, you've got them all. His tackling power is always a threat to the

oppositions, great ball skills and a deadly step. (Best & Fairest)Taniela Siale (acting full back) His speed in attacking is always a headache to the opposition, his power

ful tackling will put down any player in his way. (Runner Up Best & Fairest).

What a year……It is definitely hard to say Goodbye to another season, but for our boys to go outlike this, is both a beautiful success and fantastic way to finish 2005. The boys had an exciting,fun-filled, on the edge of your seats season, and a huge Congratulations goes out to the boys forbeing the "UNDEFEATED winners of the GRAND FINAL"…We are all very proud of you all and wantto thank the Club, Coaching Staff and the parents for your continuous support.

Last year I told the boys that 2005 would be our year, and they "ROCKED HARD"……

To all the parents, thank you for your support and friendship throughout the year, you have all beenencouraging and a tower of strength.

We wish you all well, take care of yourselves and hope to see you all 2006.

Chaz (Coach) Dina (Manager),Wrex (Trainer) Maria (Assist Trainer)

Player ProfilesAhmad Jaafar (Road Runner) This boy has speed and agility when he puts his mind into it. He always gives his best

in every game and playing as our Fullback is reliable for those try saver tackles. Anthony Semrany: (Bazooka) Captain, Anthony's nickname tells you his type of play. He is a very strong player, and

his hit-ups are just as hard. He has been an excellent leader for the year. Brandon Winterstein(little general) This player always has vision. He eats and sleeps rugby league and you can tell.

We know he is going to go places. He is a very talented player for his size. Chaz Matauaina (The Rock) had a great year. Always has explosive strong runs and unbelievable speed…We like

to call his tackles full stops, cause when he tackles it's the end of the statement.Daniel Safetly (The Hitman) This player will always have this nickname. He had a great season. For a player his

size, he has been tackling jumbo jets this year. Beautiful player to watch.

Danny Watfa (The Yellow Bus) This player has almost the same strength as his nickname. With full force tackles, hehas left a few injured players shaken & disoriented. His Sonny B flick pass seems to flow into the hands of a supporting player, and his offence well need….. I say more.

David Haddad (The Destroyer) This player is unstoppable. His defence is effortless, and he has a lot of strength andheart. He is a deceiving player, by looking at him he looks laid back and casual but when he hits them up, they are almost in shock

Esperidon Zoghaib ( Secret Weapon)A player with excellent ball skills. He has a beaut flick pass and his defence is offthe scales. He has unbelievable tackles and almost topped the tackle count this year.

George Daoud (Mr Humble) A player that like his nickname is humble, until given the chance to show his true strength. He has a beautiful placid nature off the field, on the field is a different story.

Jack Boutcher (Jack the Rippa) Jack is definitely a rippa, he will rip into anything that comes his way. His defence isfabulous to watch and his aggression to get the ball up field shows good strength

Jacob Doueihi (Sherwin) A mad Bulldogs fan, this is Shifty Sherwin all over. He may not have the size but hehas the heart and the aggression, he has some beaut kicks and nifty play makes.

Joey Nakad (Pretty damn tough)This player out of soccer to league has shown that he has strength and ability to adjustto a body contact sport. He also has flawless kicks and always looks good doing it.

Maliko Filino(The Mean Machine) This player is a mean machine, there is no nice with him on the field as he shows nomercy to anyone coming his way. He has the strength, the aggression and the talentto be a thinker. He will go along way in life.

Ravin Lotomau (The Rookie) He maybe our Rookie this year but he definitely surprised us this year. He is an excellent tackler, and has a good step, and shows great potential.

St Johns Under 11's Reserves had a great year in 2005. Half our team was made up of new play-ers this year coming from different sporting backgrounds.

We started the year off slow but by the fifth round our training had paid off, with the boys beingunstoppable right up to the semi finals.

The biggest highlight of the season was our win against Bankstown Sports Y in the Pre-Lim SemiFinal, they were the only team we had not had a win against but when under pressure the boyscame through.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Coach Harry and Noel whose dedication andpatience saw our boys improve their football skills and attitude every game. Also a big thanks toChaz (under 10's reserves coach) for loaning us a couple of his players when required and finallya big thanks to all the parents who showed up every game giving the kids their support.

Once again the St Johns club was proud to host the visiting Nambour Crushers Under 13 teamson their annual end of season trip to Sydney for the NRL Finals Series, and as in past years theChallenge Trophy was up for grabs in 2 friendly matches played at Belmore Oval on 17 September.

As in 2004 the first game pitted our Under 12's against their B side and the St Johns boys provedthey were a force to be reckoned with running out convincing winners over an inexperiencedNambour team whose players were mostly in their first year of playing. Wilson Faanoi was present-ed with the Man of the Match award after a superb performance in the game.

The second game against our Under 13's was a very different affair with the Nambour boys even-tually taking out the game. They took an early lead and at halftime things were looking comfortablefor them but St Johns never say die attitude saw them slowly pegging back the points until Nambourscored again and put the game beyond doubt.

Sasha Kerkmez was also awarded the Man of the Match after a great game at fullback.

Congratulations go to the players and officials of all 4 teams for once again putting on a day thatall the boys will remember well into the future. We look forward to next year's trip and to winningback the Challenge Trophy which Nambour have now held for 3 years out of 4.

Rugby League became a major part of theschool from the early days. The Brotherstaught many lessons of life through sport.

Rugby league was one of the many founda-tions of a school that started from a humblebeginning.

Even though in the first few years rugbyleague was played only in knockouts, itsounded the beginning of a great club in theCanterbury Bankstown District.

Under 12 Semi Finalist

2005 was a year of mixed results for our under 12 as we probably under achieved. At times theboys played brilliant football scoring some wonderful team tries & winning games on the back ofaggressive in your face style defence. We let ourselves down on a few occasions when we weren'tserious about our game.

A very pleasing aspect was seeing the boys turn their losing streak into a positive and finishing theseason as the strongest team. Only a bit of bad luck & one big injury prevented them from reallymaking a grandstand finish. With a serious approach to their game, every player in the teamimproved and contributed well.

Our biggest highlights of the season would have to be vs. Berala (17-26) and vs. Padstow (34-12).Defence was aggressive in both matches with an excellent defensive line moving up as one unit &hitting hard. The boys played a very open style in attack using the ball well. If we can learn to playlike that on a more consistent level, a premiership awaits us in the not too distant future. Startbelieving in your rugby league and come back next year hungrier than ever for success! Remember,it starts at training with a positive attitude!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who made up the under 12 crew of2005. Manager, Geeta Singh, thanks for organising all the paperwork particularly on game day, ajob well done. To the trainers, Robert & Charbel, your commitment at training & game day mademy job a lot easier & I thank you. To our parents and supporters, on behalf of the boys & thecoaching staff, I would like to say a BIG thank you for your continued support every match.

Player profilesDanny Younes had a good season. Excellent support player with the vision to see an opportunity. His defense

also improved when he learnt to be more aggressive.Claude Tasker played with determination at year's end and showed how much of a good player he will devel

op into. Can't wait for next year!Wilson Fannoi Easily one of the best players in the comp. A brilliant work rate on both side's of the ball. Very

strong runner of the ball & an excellent defender. Wilson is destined for big things.Dillon Singh had a good season. Played consistently well and improved his defence. Quick & light on his

feet & good with the ball in his hands. Well done.James Habib A quiet player who needs to get involved more. Finished the season well scoring a few tries.

My only advice, be more aggressive with your football.Marcello Bortone had a good first season of league. Surprised a few people touching down for 6 tries. Good

support player of the ball.Joseph Keirouz was easily the biggest improver in the team finishing the season strongly. Solid in defence and

learnt to be a good finisher in attack. Looking forward to next year mate.Joseph Abouraad was unlucky when he broke his arm chasing girls on his bike. Only lasted 3 games, showed

enough ability to indicate he's got potential. Next season Joey.Michael El-Azzi Probably the smallest player in the comp. Size didn't mean a thing, chopped down bigger play

ers with a fearless attitude in defence. Good with the ball, knows how to put players into holes.Maroun Mansour also lacked size but made up for it with a lot of enthusiasm. Lead the team well with good

organisation & direction. His defence also improved.Eronny Mareko has the potential to make something from football. Has the size, discipline & the football brain

to develop. Good in defence & attack, especially when he's prepared to ball play at the line.William Siale Once William started getting fit he became a real handful for the opposition. Did his job

every time in attack with hard straight running. His best defence came when he got fired up!Patty Kafusi had an unlucky season when he broke his leg. He came back he slowly started to develop. A

lot of potential, just needs to get involved more and show everyone just how good he is.Tresh Mai'ava Once Tresh started training hard it showed in his game. Tough player who can be very dam

aging, especially with the ball. I'm tipping Tresh to have a big year in 2006.Anthony Bakhos A tough player who plays with plenty of determination. Excellent service from dummy half & a

high work rate in defence. Anthony will develop into a very good player.Lani Latu Big Lani had a very strong season leading the team .Good football brain, can offload, break

tackles, big hits and goal kick? so much potential, I wish you'd commit more to fitness training.

Under 12 ReservesGood Season

I've taken over the coaching role of 12's reserve half way through the season from Peter Jex.

It was a challenge as there were players in team who haven't played the game before in sayingthat there were players in the team who were exceptionally good. It was very difficult to preparethe players for the game as their attendance to training and to the game was poor.

I'd like to thank the following people, Peter Jex, Jason Riley, parents, supporters, and all that help,

Milad Nasr - (coach)

He did his part in defense.David Daoud Played hooker and had a good season. He always backed up and his service from play the ball

was very good. Siotame Fine Always gave his best on the field. His hard runs and tackles were real bonus to the team.Anthony Oiteirinho Another good player who ran and tackled hard through out the season. William Dib Was very quick with a good step on him. He was a player when called on to do something spe

cial 9 out 10 he'll come up with a good result.Zac Malouf Played forward and he made many breaks for the team and also defense was great.

Joseph Semaan joined the team towards the end of the season, played well and always keen to get involved

Under 13Good Season

The Under 13's started the year with 31 players competing for 20 positions. After the trial games, the team was finalised. As the competition progressed it became clear we had some of the small-est sized players in the competition.

The players needed clear attention as individuals before the team could have the ingredients ofmateship, positive attitude and more importantly the power of having a strong team spirit.

The team started off with a mixture of wins and losses. Through persistence and repetition we thecoaching staff started to see positive results. One game we can all recall was the game againstPadstow Panthers. We lost the first game 48-0. In the second game we lead 20-0. Even though weended up losing, 20-24 we were the only team in the competition to stand up to them. ThePanthers won the grand final 40-8 and were undefeated all year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the boys for the challenging year they provided bothas individuals and as a team. Through their efforts one can say they all contributed towards hav-ing built a strong foundation and a better understanding of the game, the team and themselves.

Big thanks must go to my coaching staff Jack, Peter and Maria as well as the video crew Mary andLiza. Further thanks to Mr Borg, Mr Bayad, Mr Dore, Mr Abouhaidar, Mr Gayed, and Tony Merhi.

Last but not least I would like to thank all the parents and supporters for their continued supportand efforts throughout the year.

Firstly I would like to congratulate the team on being 2005 premiers. Also I would like to thank each player individual-ly for their efforts & committment.

I promised these boys this year that if they had a serious approach & the right attitude that I would get them to theGrand Final. I kept my promise & on the day it would be up to the them. The boys worked really hard this year on acouple of things, we worked hard on getting fit at the beginning of the year & also worked hard on our defence thatpaid off Grand Final day.

During the year the boys were well disciplined & their attitude towards training is one of the reasons why we are pre-miers. Also all the players bonded well with each other & are all good friends. It was all about mental toughness GrandFinal day that's why we won, the boys put the referee & the crowd behind them & concentrated on playing football. Ihope all players enjoyed the experience & never forget how special it is to win a premiership because i personally won'tforget it. FIRST XIIIPremiers

We started the season off with 32 young eager kids at training looking for a position in this histori-cal First XIII squad. After 3 trial games and several training sessions we finally picked the squadthat we were confident would be in contention for a grand final spot.

Before we kicked off our season we took the kids on a 3 day training camp to the NarrabeenInstitute of Sport. After a very successful camp the boys were keen to kick the season off.

We got through the season only losing 2 games, one to the competition leaders who had beenundefeated and the other to last years Premiers. We knew Semi-Final football was a totally differ-ent ball game, so this is where the hard work and team efforts were needed.

The boys delivered the goods by knocking off Berala 34-10 in the first Semi and smashing the un-defeated Greenacre the following week to secure a spot in the Grand Final.

What can I say, my boys deserved to be there and win the Grand Final because they busted theirguts all season at training and worked as a team to accomplish their goals. 'Well done boys' an out-standing season and a sterling performance in the Grand Final - 'THAT'S GOLD'!

A special thanks must go out to my assistant coach Claude Katter for his invaluable help, my broth-er Joe Ayoub for helping me train the side, Ignatia Painemilla our injured 21st man, my ManagerMark Brown for his hard work and endless organisation, and finally Fady Ghanem for all his helpthrough-out the season.

Under 16Good Season

2005 was my first year to coach an international team. At first it was difficult to see what playerswe were recruiting & to put them in the right positions. We started to have a few good wins andit was exciting, then some of the players started to get injuries & we started to lose a few games.Players started to miss training and the confidence wasn't there by lack of commitment to theteam. It was the most important time to us (coaching staff and players) to work together but itwas hard when you had players come and go.As we were getting near the 11th round we werelooking forward for the top 5th place in the semi but the spirit wasn't there. I guess if you need tosucceed you must give 100% from the beginning to the end.

I would like to thank our manager Joeline Mamary for her job well done also big think to our train-ers: George Saab, Tony & Mazzin for their outstanding work throughout training day and game day.Lastly but not the least I would like to thank all the parents & supporters for their support andencouragement during the season .

Sosaia Siale (coach)

Player ProfilesGeorge Siale (centre/forward) Has great potential, played different positrons this year. Can be a good foot

baller when focussing on the game. Our leading try scorer.Ibrahim Jabakenji (centre,5/8)talented player. Unfortunately he suffered a lot of injuries during the season.Andrew Bayeh (prop) Had a good year in both attacking & defence. Always there to keep us going forward Ramy Azzi (centre) His first year playing football, Ramy has a lot of ability to break the defencive line.

He picked up really well.Rony Kallas (full-back/winger) Played up a grade from U15 .He had the right attitude for the game always

tried his best throughout the year. Mark Dakken (half back) Another talented and reliable player. Unfortunately injuries cost him a few games,

his return was a great benefit to the team.48

Mahamed Youssef (prop) The best work rated forward for this season. Was always there to keep our forwardsgoing, his defence was extremely solid .

Edward Makhlouf (full back/second row) Started the season as full-back & later played second rower. Scored one of our best tries for the season.

Louis Makita (winger/second row) Another U/15 player first season with the boys. Lack of speed in attacking but makes up for it with his fancy foot work. Very competitive player.

Michael Semrani (centre/second row) Early in the season played in centre & scored a few good tries, as the season went on, played in second row. His defence was always outstanding.

Abdou Sahyouni (winger)He can be more competitive when he's switched on. Loves his football, good to havehad him in the team

Simon Abou-Sleimen (full-back) Joined the team later in the season. A very good full back with a bit more commitment to the game & he'll be right.

Milad Nasr (second row) New player to the team, did very well during the season in attacking & defence. Left half way of the season due to injuries.

Sebastian Calderon (second row) A player with a lot of potential to become a good footballer. Needs more commitment to the team.

his team mates & his service in playing the ball was outstanding. Spiros Mamary (Lock)Became more competitive and providing us with a high work rate in both attack and

defence.Ahmed Alamaddine (second row) First season with St Johns. Started the year on the bench, however once given

the opportunity, he became a great team player.Harold Uluinactua (centre) Was a fine player but due to injuries he only played 5 games in the season. Was

The boys had an interrupted start to the year loosing their coach after 2 games, this is where Ienter. I consider the year to be a successful season for the 18's. We won the minor premiershipby 6 points only losing 2 games all season.

As their coach I am very proud of the achievements this year. There were numerous games whenthe boys were down and out but they always seemed to lift a notch and win games that we neverlooked like winning.

Due to commitments, injuries and suspensions we lost key players all year and I have no doubt ifwe had these boys we would have won the premiership. In saying that the boys done a terrificjob and I am proud of all my players.

I would like to thank my trainers Mark and Andrew, my manager Julie Brown who always did awonderful job, the u/16 players who helped throughout the year and George Saab for his help dur-ing the semi's. To all the parents who supported their kids and the team throughout the year andto Mr Paige a special thanks for taping the games throughout the season.

PhantomAfter holidaying in the far exotic corners of the world the phantom has finally returned home. After clearing customsearly February I then endured to witness not only one of the finest NRL seasons ever, but a very successful seasonfor the mighty St John's Eagles. After having 12 out of 16 teams qualify for the semi finals, 5 of them continued onthe path to premiership glory. Add the 5 Grand Final victories to the club championships and you have yourself thefinest jewel in the CBJRL crown.

Before I go ahead and tarnish some reputations, I would like to congratulate all the officials and players in the club ona job well done. Their effort during the year, from what I was told was enormous.

I would like to also send my sincere condolences to all those that left the club chasing glory and power elsewhere. Likea famous American singer with a liking for wardrobe malfunctions at the Superbowl once sung "don't it always seem togo….you don't know what you've got till it's gone". Never have truer words been spoken.

The Sportsman's dinner was a stand out this year. Both comedian Mick Meredith, league legend Tommy Roudonikisand a nice bar tab ensured a great night was had by all. After being picked up at the airport Tommy was taken to thePunchbowl RSC for a "few drinks" so that he can get familiar with the surroundings for that evening. Anyway about 2packets of chips, a few winners at the tab and a dozen schooners later Tommy was taken back to his room feeling quietmerry. The amber fluids consumed that arvo along with the ones later that night left a female member of the club beingasked to accompany the great man back to his room for more "drinks". My guess is that it would have been for somelessons in winning and dominating the ruck.

One premiership winning coach was that delighted in winning the grand final that he decided to have his own grandfinale to the grand final party. He has been in love for a long time. Was he on his own????

Red faces night opened our eyes to some great non footballing talent. On the other hand there was one performancethat left me scratching my head. A prominent First X111 player tried to entertain the audience with some jokes. Hisperformance was in the Craig McLaughlin class…..terrible. I am quite glad that the food had been eaten otherwise dimsims and spring rolls would have been launched onto the stage. From what I have been told he is just as good withthe ladies.

It is half time in a C grade game and the paint was stripped off the walls in the St John's dressing room. Was it fromthe spray that Fred Noujaim the coach gave the team??? No…from all reports it was because of one of the trainer'sbreath.

Whilst on the C grade a big thank you to Chance Bunce for shutting up one of the biggest mouths in the C grade com-petition. That flurry will sit in my memory for a long time. Cheers bro!!!

The under 16's players have always been close, so close that two of the players were both caught lying on the tacklebags in the storage room at Punchbowl Park with their arms around each other talking. Obviously these 2 boys didn'tget enough of the cuddling they had in the front row during the year. One of the boys scored plenty of tries during theyear while the other couldn't score one. Maybe he was just trying to prove that he could score. Personally I would havegone to Peter Wynn's.

Rumour has it that possibly one of the clubs greatest stalwarts Claude Katter along with some other great serving play-ers could be making a comeback next year with the new vamped A Grade side. Keep your ears to the ground.

It will be a short summer break and before we know it the start of a new season will be upon us. Hope to see you allback next year for a bigger and better year. Till then enjoy the cricket and the warmer weather. Hope you all have aMerry Xmas and a safe and enjoyable New Year. Phantom signing off…………
