GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE
Brothers,
Happy New Year - I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas.Thank you to all my brother Knights and Officers for making 2015 a verysuccessful and enjoyable year. Our council has done so much this pastyear and we couldn’t do any of it without the support of our members.
We had a very nice Christmas tree lighting the beginning ofDecember. Father Bill was there to bless our Councils tree and sang a fewChristmas carols with us and the ladies had a nice variety of wonderfuldeserts as usual. The Christmas party on Dec 5th was also a great nightwith our brother Knights and their families. A special thanks to SK PaulBasileo, PGK, FDD for running the event he always does a great job. Andthank you to Kathy Lilley for being the DJ for the night, the Lilley’s alwaysdo a great job for our Council.
February 20th is our Council’s 50th Anniversary, we are havingour anniversary celebration at the Miller Place Inn. It is a once in a lifetimeevent. We plan on honoring our Charter members and those members thathave been in the Knights for 50 or more years. Everyone should havereceived a letter and flyer in the mail with all the details. If you are planningto attend you must make a reservation and payment. Please bring yourpayment to this month’s business meeting or social.
Hope to see everyone soon.

January Birthdays
A new nationwide survey conducted by Marist Poll finds that Americans are well aware of ISIS’ atrocities against Christians and otherminorities in the Middle East, and believe those actions to constitute genocide.
By almost 20 points, 55 percent to 36 percent, Americans agree that this targeting of Christians and other religious minorities meetsthe U.N. definition of genocide.
In addition, nearly 6 in 10 Americans (59 percent), say they have heard “a great deal” or “a good amount” about the targeting ofChristians and other religious minorities in the region by ISIS.
The survey comes just over a week after a broad coalition of religious leaders, researchers and scholars sent a letter to Secretary ofState John Kerry, urging – based on the overwhelming evidence of their targeting in Iraq and Syria – that Christians be included in
any determination of genocide made by the State Department.
And one week ago, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) also released a statement urging the StateDepartment to declare what is happening to religious minorities in the region as genocide.
Pope Francis has called the situation genocide as well. During his trip to Bolivia, he stated, “Today we are dismayed to see how inthe Middle East and elsewhere in the world many of our brothers and sisters are persecuted, tortured and killed for their faith in Je-sus. … A form of genocide is taking place, and it must end.”
Bishop Oscar Cantú of Las Cruces, New Mexico, chair of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Interna-tional Justice and Peace, in a letter has also urged Congress to pass the “Genocide” resolution, H.Con.Res. 75.
The survey of 1,517 adults was conducted Dec. 1-7, 2015, by The Marist Poll sponsored and funded in partnership with The Knightsof Columbus. Adults 18 years of age and older residing in the continental United States were interviewed in English or Spanish by(landline and cellular) telephone, using live interviewers. Results are statistically significant within ±2.5 percentage points.

The Desire For God
The dignity of man rests above all on the fact that he iscalled to communion with God. This invitation to conversewith God is addressed to man as soon as he comes intobeing. For if man exists it is because God has created himthrough love, and through love continues to hold him inexistence. He cannot live fully according to truth unless hefreely acknowledges that love and entrusts himself to hiscreator.
From one ancestor [God] made all nations to inhabit thewhole earth, and he allotted the times of their existenceand the boundaries of the places where they would live, sothat they would search for God and perhaps grope for himand find him - though indeed he is not far from each one ofus. For 'in him we live and move and have our being‘.
You are great, O Lord, and greatly to be praised: great isyour power and your wisdom is without measure. Andman, so small a part of your creation, wants to praise you:this man, though clothed with mortality and bearing theevidence of sin and the proof that you withstand the proud.Despite everything, man, though but a small a part of yourcreation, wants to praise you. You yourself encourage him
to delight in your praise, for you have made us for yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.

District Deputy’s Message
Happy New Year everyone! It’s 2016 and I for one am happy to welcome it!
2015 was a bad year for me and I am ready to move forward into the New Year. Now that the Holi-
days are over we can get back to focusing on the work of the Order once again. There is a first Degreescheduled for January so get those form 100’s out and let’s get some new members so that we can get offon the right foot! We have some important forms that are due this month including the Survey of Fraternal
Activity (#1728). This is how the Order figures out how many volunteer hours that the Councils put inthroughout the year and how much money is donated by the individual Councils. I will see you all soon atthe next meeting.
