Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaid-ed. Inspired by this confidence I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Lord, Hear our Prayer.
Processions are life’s journey distilled. We move with companions, aware that Christ accompanies us, as we move to the altar for Communion or to the font for baptism, or carry a loved one to a place of rest. In Europe, the season of pilgrimage is beginning now, and tens of thousands of people are moving by foot on well-worn paths. Some take as long as six weeks to walk the last few hundred miles of the medieval pilgrimage route to the Shrine of St. James the Apostle in Compostella, in northern Spain.
Those who make the journey by foot, hiking, or by bicycle, have a kind of passport stamped at villages and monasteries on the road. When they present this document at the cathedral, they are given the emblem of a pilgrim, the scallop shell of St. James. High over their heads at Mass, a huge botafumero twirls clouds of sweet incense through the cathedral. Cynics say it is to mask the odor of smelly feet. The pilgrims know better. See-ing through the clouds the happy faces of those they met along the road, they recog-nize a foretaste of the welcome into heaven,
and the joy of meeting loved ones in the Kingdom of God. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co

School News
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Wendy Kelly for her leadership and guidance of St. Laurence School for the past three years. She was invested in the school and the students. Some of her accomplishments include:
• Added a full day preschool, Spanish language classes, gifted enrichment, and school clubs. • Focus on STEM learning and technology advancement including coding. • Implementation of a professional development plan that has tar geted learning in technology implementation, differentiated learning, STEM learning, and social-emotional strategies. • Focus on differentiated, individualized learning plans through initiatives like Guided Math implementation and principal/teacher meetings to create strategies for each student on weaknesses and strengths. • Our social media campaign has extensively promoted the 'Why?" of St. Laurence including the creation of a new website and marketing materials. She regularly posted great images of the stu-dents and did a weekly "Live" update of what each grade did that week. • Building up an environment of joy, optimism, helpfulness, profes-sionalism, and openness to all who walked through our doors. With all the great images on our school Facebook page it was hard to find some with Wendy in them as she was always behind the camera. We found a few though!

Vocations Corner- Fr. Manny Gomez
Kid’s Corner
Greek mythology teaches us a great lesson about sin and love. After Apollo had defeated Python, a monster that browbeat the people, he became very arrogant. He enjoyed showing off his bow and arrow ability, and was vain about his recent triumph. One day he made fun of Eros, the god of love who had the figure of a winged child carrying a small bow and arrow. Apollo said to him to leave the bow and arrows to true warriors like him, and go home to play children's games. Eros wasn't happy with such treatment, but didn't answer him immediately. He waited for the right mo-ment to strike Apollo's heart. Eros pierced Apollo's heart with both a golden and a lead arrow. The golden arrow made him fall in love with a beautiful nymph named Daphne, and the lead arrow caused her to reject him. From that moment on Apollo wanted to conquer Daphne's heart, while Daphne kept rejecting him. Soon Apollo's desire became an obsession. He started harassing her. One day he was about to take advantage of her by force, but she cried out for help to her fa-ther, the river god Peneus. 'Father take away from me this beauty that causes Apollo's obsession', she asked him. Peneus heard her voice and transformed her into a laurel tree. When Apollo saw the transformation, he was able to contemplate Daphne's beauty from a perspective he never thought of previously. As a sign of admiration and love, he decreed that all the victorious man, from that mo-ment on, shall be crowned with a laurel crown. From this story we can learn two things. First, a grave sin always begins with a smaller sin. Apollo passes from being arrogant, showing off his abilities, to making fun of others, and then desiring and obsessing to the point of almost abusing Daphne. Second, we can always purify our desires and our intentions, but for that we need to ask help from our father. Daphne asked that her beauty may be taken away, but her father instead transformed it in a way that it may be respected. In our vocational journey we should be aware of both things: the temptations that sometimes make us go astray, and the purification of our desires to love others more every day, as God loves us.
