Two participations in the one priesthood of Christ
Christ, high priest and unique mediator, has made of the
Church "a kingdom, priests for his God and Father." The
whole community of believers is, as such, priestly. The
faithful exercise their baptismal priesthood through their
participation, each according to his own vocation, in
Christ's mission as priest, prophet, and king. Through the
sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation the faithful are
"consecrated to be . . . a holy priesthood."
The ministerial or hierarchical priesthood of bishops and
priests, and the common priesthood of all the faithful
participate, "each in its own proper way, in the one
priesthood of Christ." While being "ordered one to
another," they differ essentially. In what sense? While the
common priesthood of the faithful is exercised by the
unfolding of baptismal grace --a life of faith, hope, and
charity, a life according to the Spirit--, the ministerial
priesthood is at the service of the common priesthood. It is
directed at the unfolding of the baptismal grace of all
Christians...
In the person of Christ the Head . . .
In the ecclesial service of the ordained minister, it is Christ
himself who is present to his Church as Head of his Body,
Shepherd of his flock, high priest of the redemptive
sacrifice, Teacher of Truth. This is what the Church means
by saying that the priest, by virtue of the sacrament of Holy
Orders, acts in the person of Christ the Head.
Through the ordained ministry, especially that of bishops
and priests, the presence of Christ as head of the Church is
made visible in the midst of the community of believers.
This presence of Christ in the minister is not to be
understood as if the latter were preserved from all human
weaknesses, the spirit of domination, error, even sin. The
power of the Holy Spirit does not guarantee all acts of
ministers in the same way. While this guarantee extends to
the sacraments, so that even the minister's sin cannot
impede the fruit of grace, in many other acts the minister
leaves human traces that are not always signs of fidelity to
the Gospel and consequently can harm the apostolic
fruitfulness of the Church.
"in the name of the whole Church"
The ministerial priesthood has the task not only of
representing Christ - Head of the Church - before the
assembly of the faithful, but also of acting in the name of
the whole Church when presenting to God the prayer of the
Church, and above all when offering the Eucharistic
sacrifice.
"In the name of the whole Church" does not mean that
priests are the delegates of the community. The prayer and
offering of the Church are inseparable from the prayer and
offering of Christ, her head; it is always the case that Christ
worships in and through his Church. ... The whole
Body, head and members, prays and offers itself, and
therefore those who in the Body are especially his ministers
are called ministers not only of Christ, but also of the
Church. It is because the ministerial priesthood represents
Christ that it can represent the Church.
RENOVATIONS AT PRIMARY SCHOOL PIETY SHOP / TOILETS Due to renovation of St Liborius Primary School the Piety Shop has moved back into the Church on the right hand side entrance. Also, the school toilets will be unavailable between the 14th Jan - 14th March. If you require toilets facilities, the St Liborius Centre toilets will be available during Sunday Mass.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, it is not pompous.” (1 Corinthians 13:4) Do you get jealous? Do you focus more on the things that other people have than on the gifts that God has given to you? Are you pompous? Do you acquire more possessions to impress others? At times we are all guilty of these things. Pray for more humility. Pray to become less “self-centered” and become more “God-centered”.
As we gather to worship, we acknowledge the Traditional owners and custodians of this land- the Jaara Country we are standing on- the Jaara people of the Dja Dja Wurrung community and their forebears who have been custodians of this land for centuries.
With St Liborius, St Stephen & St Augustine, let us be a spiritual benefactor to each other in prayer, especially for the health and well-being of:
Pray for our seminarians: Adi Indra, Jackson Saunders, DJ Suguitan & Adonis Pena.
May they rest in the peace of Christ. Amen.
In faith and hope let us pray for those who have gone before us and those whose anniversaries occur around this time.

PARISH HOUSING FORUM CatholicCare Sandhurst has been in discussion with Catholic Social Services Victoria (CSSV) Forum about hosting a Social Housing Forum in Bendigo in May (18th is proposed) this year. This is in response to the Australian Catholic Bishops’ Social Justice Statement for 2018-19 A Place to Call Home – Making a home for everyone in our land. CSSV held a Forum in Elwood last year and is keen to engage as many parishes and parishioners as possible in addressing the widespread issue of homelessness and housing insecurity. The hope is that many parishes and community organisations can combine their resources to tackle homelessness in the Bendigo area in a way that is safe, coordinated and leads to long-term solutions. It would be great if a member of our parish could represent us at some of the planning meetings. If you are interested in being involved or would just like more information about what is being proposed, please call or drop into the parish office.

PLENARY COUNCIL MEETING All St Liborius parishioners are invited to come to the Parish centre following 6pm mass on Saturday the 9th February. Par ishioners will be able to give their input towards putting together a parish submission.
A collection of ideas relating to the Church in Australia as a whole has been put together based on the written submissions that have already been given to the parish. Copies are available at the back of the Church. We will be using this document as a guide for putting together a parish submission.
Next Saturday night we will discuss what is in this discussion document in small groups, and then we will try to bring together the key ideas that we all agree upon for the parish submission.
Please let us know if you would like to come but cannot make it, and we will try to make sure you can have a say too.
Individuals (and groups) may still contribute directly to the Plenary council via the website up until the 5th March. Let us know if you would like help with this process.

CALLING A PRIEST IN AN EMERGENCY
It is important for Catholics to receive the Sacraments of the Church in dangerous or near-death situations. Even if someone has already been anointed recently, it is good to call the priest again when someone’s condition significantly worsens. Here is some information to help ensure that a priest is called at the right time. Be prepared It is important make sure that family members or carers know that you want a priest to be called in an emergency. Hospitals and aged care homes are usually good at recording this and calling a priest if needed, but you should not just assume that this will happen automatically. During the day It is usually best to call the local parish where you are located and ask for a priest there so he can get there as quickly as possible. In institutions a staff member can usually help with this. After Hours Number In Bendigo there is an after-hours number which should be able to reach a priest on call after 6pm and before 8am. This number has been provided to medical and aged care institutions in Bendigo. If you ask a staff member at an institution they will usually be able to call a priest. Eaglehawk Parish You also have the option to call Eaglehawk Parish Office on 03 5446 8235. Although this number is not always manned, you can leave a message and Fr Stephen will be immediately notified.
