Prostate Cancer Risk Factors
• Are you older than 50? • Do you have a father, brother or son who was diagnosed with prostate cancer before they were 65?
• Is prostate cancer common among your ethnicity or na-onality?
• Do you eat a lot of red meat or high-‐fat dairy products?
• Are you overweight?

Prostate Cancer Detec-on If you answered “yes” to three or more of the prostate cancer risk factor ques-ons, talk to your health care provider about the benefits and risks of prostate cancer tes-ng. Prostate cancer can o\en be found early by tes-ng the amount of prostate-‐specific an-gen (PSA) in a man’s blood, or through a digital rectal exam (DRE). The American Urological Associa-on recommends against prostate cancer screening in men under 40 or age 70+ years with a life expectancy of less than 10-‐15 years.

Prostate Cancer Risk Reduc-on • Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains • Limit your intake of red meat (beef, pork or lamb), especially high
fat or processed meats like deli meat, hot dogs and bacon • Get to and stay at a healthy weight • Be physically ac-ve • Get sufficient vitamin D -‐ The American Cancer Society states that
recent studies found that men with high levels of vitamin D seem to have a lower risk of developing more lethal forms of prostate cancer
• Avoid smoking and limit alcohol intake • Stay current on annual examina-ons and talk to your doctor about
your personal risk

Prostate Cancer Treatment Op-ons Depending on the stage of the disease, treatment op-ons for prostate cancer include: • Stereotac-c body radiosurgery (SBRT) • Surgery • Radia-on therapy • Cryosurgery (cryotherapy) • Hormone therapy • Chemotherapy • Vaccine treatment • Bone directed treatment • Watchful wai-ng / Ac-ve surveillance These treatments are generally used one at a -me, although in some cases they may be combined.
