Mission Statement

We, the people of Saint Margaret Mary Parish in Chino, California, welcome you to our Roman Catholic Community. We are blessed to have a variety of different ethnic communities that join together on our journey towards the fulfillment of Christ’s Kingdom. It is a parish goal to provide the sacraments to the life of our community, with the source and summit of that life being the Eucharist. We are committed to the challenge of the Gospel message: to make Jesus Christ more known and more loved.

Teaching Moment:

Explain the “Preparation of the Gifts and the Altar”. The Liturgy of the Eucharist begins with the “Preparation of

the Gifts and the Altar”. As the ministers prepare the altar, representatives of the people bring forward the bread and wine that will become the Body and Blood of Christ. The celebrant blesses and praises God for these gifts and places them on the altar, the place of the Eucharistic sacrifice. In addition to the bread and wine, monetary gifts for the support of the Church and the care of the poor may be brought forward. The Priest says the following prayers either out loud or to himself. “Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this bread to offer, which earth has given and human hands have made. It will become for us the bread of life”. “Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this wine to offer, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink”. If the Priest chooses to say it out loud, the congregation responds after each prayer with, “Blessed be God forever”. The Prayer over the Offerings concludes this preparation and disposes all for the Eucharistic Prayer.

A Note from the Administrator...

Dear friends, If you have made a wonderful lent, sanctifying this special Church season by extra prayer, sacrifice or almsgiving … good for you! The best way to complete your preparation for Easter is by devout participation in the Church’s Holy Week liturgies, the ancient and beautiful of the whole year. And if you have neglected Lent this year, by far the best way to perform a “rescue operation” … is by devout participation in the Holy Week liturgies. Our Holy Week Schedule is:

Also … about confession. There have been many recent opportunities for confession; most priests have heard enough confessions to make our ears drop off. However, there may be some who are shy about coming because it’s been so long, or are embarrassed because they’ve forgotten the Act of Contrition or even how to confess, or have serious sins like abortion or adultery they just can’t bring themselves to say out loud. If this is you, you are warmly invited to a simple Penance Service this Tuesday at 7 PM. At this service we will have an opening prayer, scripture and act of contrition all together … and then Fr. Declan and I will be available to hear your sins. We will not say one word to you in reply --- just listen quietly and then pronounce God’s wonderful words of forgiveness over you. And … the Penance for everyone will be the same: one Hail Mary or one Our Father. The Church is that anxious for you to experience God’s mercy! (This service is not the occasion for hundreds of people to make devotional confessions they really don’t need to make. Instead, it’s a time for these people to stand aside so that those who haven’t been to confession for “a very long time” have ready access to God’s mercy.)

Peace, All Good! Fr. Mike, interim administrator

MESSAGES OF MERCYMESSAGES OF MERCY

I am love and mercy itself. … Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. … My mercy is greater than your sins, and those of the entire world. … I let my Sacred Heart be pierced with a lance, thus opening wide the source of mercy for you. Come then with trust to draw graces from this fountain. … the graces of My mercy are drawn by the means of one vessel only, and that is trust. The more a soul trusts, the more it will receive.
