Sunday Reflection:
“The Path for Entering the Kingdom of God”
As both Joshua and Jesus disciples learned, God uses the least likely people to be his instruments of grace. Maybe he does so to uproot in us the self-righteousness and indignation that instinctively pro-vokes. Moses asks Joshua, “Are you jealous for my sake?” A conceited, disdaining mindset, a spirit of enti-tlement, an attitude of arrogance can become like “stored up treasures.” But their “corrosion will be a tes-timony against you; it will devour your flesh like a fire.” This is why the Lord calls for such an aggressive proto-col of cutting off and plucking out true self-mortification. For Jesus’ graphic image captures how amputating and disfiguring the mutilation known as sin is. We act to murder that in us, so as to stay the temp-tation to murder “the righteous one.” Looking at Jesus we see he chose the path of humil-ity and service. Rather, he himself is this path. Jesus was not indecisive; he was not indifferent. He made a decision and followed it through until the end. He de-cided to become man and as a man to become a ser-vant until his death on the cross. This is the way of love, there is no other… This word solidarity runs the risk of being deleted from the dictionary because it is a word that bothers us, it bothers us. Why? Because it requires you to look at another and give yourself to another with love… And we want to take this path. Christ’s humility is not moralism or a feeling. Christ’s humility is real; it is the choice of being small, of stay-ing with the lowliest and with the marginalized, staying among all of us sinners. Becareful, this is not an ideol-ogy! It is a way of being and a way of life that comes from love and from God’s heart… Jesus is the path, and a path is for walking and fol-lowing… We cannot follow Jesus on the path of love unless we first love others, unless we force ourselves to work together, to understand each other and to for-give each other, recognizing our own limits and mis-takes. We must do works of mercy and with mercy! Putting our heart in them. Works of charity with love, with tenderness, and always with humility!... Therefore following Jesus on the path of charity, go-ing with him to the existential outskirts...For the Good Shepherd what is far, what is on the margins,what is lost and unappreciated is the object of greater care, and the Church cannot but make her own this special love and attention. The first in the Church are those who are the most in need, humanly, spiritually, materi-ally, the neediest.

Reflexión Dominical:
El camino hacia el Reino de Dios
Tanto la primera lectura como el evangelio de hoy nos hablan del peligro de no reconocer la imprevisi-bilidad de la acción divina y de querer constreñirla. En ambos textos llama la atención el deseo de prohi-bir. Sorprende, además, porque quienes lo hacen han recibido encargos por pura elección gratuita. Tanto Josué como los apóstoles fueron llamados a cumplir una misión; pero ninguno de ellos tenía el encargo de regular la acción del Espíritu. Asombra la falta de discernimiento, la inmediatez en el juicio y en la acción. Es bueno que la palabra de Dios entre de lleno en nuestro interior y veamos si nos sucede algo pa-recido: si, ante los dones de otros, nace en nosotros la sospecha o incluso la envidia, si nos entristecemos por el bien ajeno. Santo Tomás decía, repecto del conocimiento, que lo importante es la verdad, y no quién la dice. De igual manera, lo importante es el bien y no quién lo hace. Y en el evangelio se habla de un bien radical, porque aquel hombre expulsaba demonios y lo hacía en nombre de Cristo. El conjunto del texto nos permite comprender que no se trataba de una impostura, aunque desconocemos de qué manera aquel exorcista recibío el poder de Cristo. Lo que hoy contemplamos puede aplicarse tan-to al bien que otros hacen en el mundo como a la diversidad misma que existe en el interior de la Igle-sia. El papa Francisco nos ha animado a sentir la alegría de pertenecer a un mismo pueblo, la Iglesia, y frente a la tentación de la división o el individualis-mo, escribía: (Que todos puedan admirar cómo os cuidáis unos a otros, cómo os dais aliento mutua-mente y cómo os acompañáis). Hace poco estaba con unas hermanas de una congregación nueva que ha llegado a España. Les pregunté cómo empezaron aquí y me contaron que unas monjas de un instituto diferente les habían of-recido un convent que estaba vacío. Me contaron también que, cuando viajaban por España, se aloja-ban enotras casas religiosas y el cariño con que las recibían. Me pareció emocionante ese modo provi-dencial por el que un charisma se pone al servicio de otro para que el testimonio de la caridad de Cristo siga presente en el mundo. Si el empeño de todos es el de hacer presente a Jesucristo, entonces nunca nadie desplaza a nadie.
