“O, God let all the nations praise you.”“O, God let all the nations praise you.”“O, God let all the nations praise you.”“O, God let all the nations praise you.”

This is the Sixth Sunday in the Easter Season. The readings are worth noting. They are taken from the Acts of the Apostles, Revelation and the Gospel of John. Let us look at each and see what our Lord Jesus wants us to draw for our meditation and spiritual growth.

The Acts of the Apostles speak about the painful intrusion of some from elsewhere trying to interfere with the faith life of Christians in Antioch, Syria and Cecilia. These are Christians from their Gentile nations. They accepted Jesus and became Christians. They were not Jews. The people who came from Jerusalem insisted that they should first become Jews and then Christians. They have to first accept the Mosaic laws and prac-tices. This caused great pain to Paul and Barnabas. It was caus-ing great dissention among the Christians.

These particular Christians who are causing problems to the Gentile Christians forgot the message of Jesus. This is what Je-sus commanded of the Apostles, before he ascended to the Father. This is what Jesus told them, “Go unto the whole world and proclaim the Good News and baptize all those who be-lieve.” Jesus from the very beginning taught them that he be-longs to all. His first mission was to Jews, but many did not re-ceive his message and then he turned to the Gentiles. It was not the will of Jesus that in order to become Christians, they have to first become Jews. Jesus came for all and all belong to Jesus. This belonging is based on their faith in Jesus.

The local Christian community decided to send some repre-sentatives to Jerusalem to consult with the Apostles. They ar-rived in Jerusalem and reported the matter to the Apostles. The Apostles convened a council and studied the matter with the assistance of the Holy Spirit. They decided that they would send some representatives and calm the situation. The decision was that no one needs to be a Jew in order to become Christian. They were asked to follow the mind of Christ. It meant that they have to give up some of the practices which were offensive to God. It was narrated in details in the letter. The Apostles and the Elders rejoiced that the Gentiles were given the gifts of the Holy Spirit and were acknowledging Jesus and the One True God.

The book of the Revelation once again speaks of the splen-dor of the Church, the Bride of Christ. It speaks of twelve gates; four are facing the East, four are facing the West and four are facing the North and four are facing the South. This tells us that the Church of Jesus is universal. Everybody who wants to know the truth is welcome to Christ. It is universally spread through-out the Globe. Yes my friends this Church of Jesus has reached all the corners of the world. This Church worships her Spouse Jesus in all the languages and cultures. We are truly Apostolic and Catholic.

The Gospel speaks of the Holy Spirit. We’ve had the Sacra-ments of First Confession and Confirmation already celebrated. The Holy Spirit was given to those students who have received these Sacraments. The Sacrament of Confirmation completed the Sacraments of Initiation. The Sacraments of enunciations are Baptism, Confession, Eucharist and Confirmation. We will celebrate the first Sacrament of the Eucharist this weekend. I want to congratulate all of the students who have received these Sacraments for the first time this year. Please remember that you have a mighty friend whom you can trust. You don’t need to be afraid of anything. You are not alone. You have God as your companion. Our prayer must always be, “O God, let all nations praise you.”
