“‘And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; since from you shall come a ruler, who is to shepherd my people Israel.’” ~ Matthew 2:6

Knights of Columbus Coat Drive -- No person should have to go through Winter shivering and cold because of lack of a warm coat. Yet according to County statistics, more than 75,000 residents fall below the poverty line, and may not be able to buy warm clothes. Many families struggling to make end meet cannot afford to provide themselves or their children a warm coat. You can help! Please go through your closets. If you have unneeded adult or children coats in good condition, please drop them off after any Mass on Sunday, January 5 (or Vigil Mass) and place in bins in Church vestibule. New coats are welcome also. Knights will get these coats to Catholic Charities and parishioner families who need them (Parishioners needing coats may ask any Member of the Saint Michael Knights.) Bad Weather/Church Closings -- If it’s slippery and dangerous, or if there’s an abundance of snow, USE COMMON SENSE. Don’t try to come to Mass. If the Fairfax County Schools system delays or cancels school due to weather, there will be no 8:30 a.m. Mass. Fairfax County Schools, for congruous purposes, is simply an efficient means to follow. If the U.S. Government shuts down because of bad weather, we’ll do our best to maintain the Noon schedule because snow removal work should be well underway by that time – but there are no guarantees. For the safety of those shoveling and plowing the snow, gates will be closed and the entrances will be blocked by cones. (Please do not drive around the cones.) You can receive email notices -- from Fairfax County Schools by signing up via this link: https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/VAEDUFCPS/subscriber/new (or use the internet search engine: “Fairfax County Schools closings”). U.S. Government closings because of the weather, of course, are pretty big deals and news is easily accessible from television reports. Family Holy Hour -- takes place every week at St. Michael’s. Come to the church this Friday, January 10th, at 7 p.m. All are encouraged to attend; bring your family! St. Michael’s Seniors (50+) Group -- Become a member! Parishioners (50+) are welcome to join, and be sure to take advantage of the reduced rate for activities. $10 per year/per member. Mail your membership checks, payable to St. Michael’s Seniors (SMS) to Bill Frietze, 6919 Richard Place, Annandale, VA 22003. If you have any questions, call Cindy, 703-927-1184.
