Stewardship of Treasure

2018 2017 52-Weekly Required Budget

May 13th 21,815.90 19,978.95 $25,856.00

Dear Parishioners, Today we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost. This is the day that the Holy Spirit came to the apostles and the whole church to be the advocate for all times. In the gospel we hear once again during this Easter season that Jesus appeared to the disciples in the locked room. He greeted them with words of peace and breathed on them giving them the gift of the Holy Spirit. As Jesus breathed on the first apostles, he commissioned them to go into the whole world and continue His mission. He specifically gave them authority to forgive sins which is the institution of the sacrament of Reconciliation. The church today continues to be guided by the Holy Spirit and it is this same spirit that we receive when we receive the sacrament of Confirmation. It is the Holy Spirit that continues to breath life into our church. The pope, bishops, priests and all of the baptized are guided by the Holy Spirit. When we speak in the name of the church, we are speaking in the name of Jesus and guided in our speech and actions by the Holy Spirit. I pray that we may all use wisely and generously these gifts of the spirit that we received in Confirmation.

Saint of the Day

St. Bernardine of Siena

In the 1400’s a plague swept through the city of Siena. Many were falling ill as did the people who were needed to tend to them. Twenty-two year old, Bernardine, dedicated months to caring for the sick and cleaning the hospitals until he became ill of exhaustion. Once he was well, he joined the priesthood and went to Milan on a mission where he preached for hours at a time. He spent the remainder of his life preaching of the mercy of Jesus and love of Mary as he traveled though Italy by foot.
