7 February 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are currently a team of 174 staff members at St Patrick’s CBC. This includes the teachers and teachers’
assistants, maintenance, cleaning, kitchen, admin, aftercare, arts and sport staff. I sometimes find it difficult to get around to everyone on a regular basis. It is easy to say you care, but I know it is even more important to show
it. Therefore, we have decided to make February Appreciation Month at the school. We encourage everyone to
take the time to write short appreciation notes to anyone who has shown kindness towards them, and this
invitation includes you. If you appreciate something someone has done, remember to acknowledge it. It is
probably not why they have done it, but the smile and thank you go a long way.
The staff are a blessing to me. I could not steer this ship on a daily basis if it were not for the team effort each day.
This week, I decided to bake muffins for all staff. It is something simple, but making something for someone from scratch, requires more effort than buying something and handing it out. I also spent time working with the grounds
staff. It was hot, and sometimes frustrating, but I understood their situation better. For a very short period, I tried
to step into their shoes and walk around in them. Next week I will be working with the cleaning ladies.
Take the time to really appreciate those around you.
Make sure the people who matter know that you value having them in your life, and that you are not afraid to
prioritize them over other things.
This month’s Prayer Evening is scheduled for Tuesday, 18 February 2020 in the Main Chapel at 18h00. A family who
prays together, stays together. All parents and guardians are welcome to join us. Please remember to send any
prayer requests to Jo-Marie at [email protected] by Wednesday evenings for inclusion in the WIS.
We have reached a point where quite a number of our grades are filled to capacity. We have pupils on waiting
lists. Some families in the school even have siblings on waiting lists, as we can unfortunately not keep adding to
an already full class. Seven of the grades are already full for next year. If there is a sibling at home or at another
school who is considering joining us in 2021, or if you have family or friends who would like to join the St Patrick’s
CBC family, please contact Ms Seaward ([email protected]) as soon as possible. Get the paperwork
out of the way. You may still change your mind closer to the time, but please do not wait until the end of the year to apply. We may not be able to accommodate last-minute requests.
We have once again included the very useful email contact list at the end of the WIS for all teaching staff and
Management.
Our younger grades all have class WhatsApp groups. At this age, the little ones do not always convey messages
accurately, so these groups are handy communication platforms for arrangements pertaining to an upcoming event, project, outing, etc. The purpose of these groups is for communication purposes only, therefore no photos
or videos will be posted to these groups. That is what our school’s Facebook page is for. Please contact your
child's teacher via a private message, should the need arise. However, as previously mentioned, we prefer communication via email rather than any other form of written communication.

ONGOING FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE
The MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet fundraising programme is one of South Africa’s biggest community
programmes. The system allows cardholders to make a difference to a worthy cause without it costing them a cent!
The success of the programme depends on the number of times you swipe your card. In order to become a supporter, you need to be registered with MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet and select a
school or charity to support. You can get a card at your local Woolworths store. It’s quick and easy! Please select
‘St Patricks, College – Kimberley’ as your beneficiary. It is free of charge, with no hidden costs.
All Grade 10, 11 and 12 pupils should have registered on ‘turnitin’. Written
instructions were given to them in class. This is vital as all assignments, essays and research tasks must be submitted via ‘turnitin’.
If your child has lost their name badge, replacement badges must be ordered from the
Finance Office at a cost of R50.00 each. Kindly note: we have to order a minimum of 10
badges at a time, so please be patient as there may be a delay in delivery time.

may swipe for rewards for the school)

underneath the tracksuit tops in winter or on cold days. It is exactly the same quality, fabric
and size as the short-sleeved ones, except of course, the longer sleeves. The cost is the same as last year, R160.00 per shirt. The supplier will manufacture as we place the orders,
so the lead time for delivery will be approximately 3 weeks. Orders may be placed at the
Finance Office.

We introduced a ‘Memory verse of the week’ in the Primary School last year. We recognize the importance of
equipping our pupils with key truths from the Bible and will focus on a verse per week. For next week we have
selected Ps 33:12 –
TAKE FLIGHT DANCE ACADEMY CLASS SCHEDULE FOR 2020
The dancing indicated on the extra mural timetable, forms part of our School of the Arts offering, but is outsourced to the very experienced dancer and choreographer, Mrs Ruth Delport.
The dance programme for the various grades include the Vaganova (Russian) ballet, the Horton Contemporary
Syllabus and the ISTD Contemporary Syllabus.
The pupils who choose dance as an extramural activity will cover all 3 dance genres, to ensure that they get a
well-rounded and comprehensive training in dance. The Studio address is at 7 Robbie Ross Avenue, Royldene.
Due to the extent of the various time slots and genres offered, we will unfortunately not be able to offer transport, so this would be the responsibility of each parent.
Children with previous dance experience are welcome to audition for placing.

WINTER QUILTED JACKETS FOR PUPILS
During the colder winter months, some pupils prefer to wear a warmer jacket on PE days. A
quilted jacket that looks the same as the tracksuit tops (see picture) is available at a cost of R450.00 each. These jackets may be worn on PE days, as well as to sport events. It may
be worn with either tracksuit pants or the navy sport shorts. However, it DOES NOT REPLACE
THE BLAZER.
The clothing shop does not keep stock of these jackets and these orders work on a ‘payment upfront’ basis.
Should you wish to order a jacket, kindly place your order with our Finance Office (Mrs Erasmus) by Thursday, 20
February 2020. There is a 6-week production time for these jackets and we would like to have them available
from mid-April.
For parents, we also have “SUPPORTER” quilted jackets available. They look very similar to the pupils’ one, but the navy and green are reversed, so these jackets are predominantly navy. The cost is also R450.00 each, and may
be ordered at the Finance Office by Thursday, 20 February 2020.
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they
must be felt with the heart. ...
From this week, we will include prayer requests in the WIS
every week.
Please pray for the following this week:
• Travelling mercies for all school family members who
are travelling this weekend for conferences, expos and sport.
If you would like to submit any prayer requests for inclusion, please email it to [email protected] by Wednesday
evening.

Netball
Our Foundation Phase Netball fun day took place on Saturday, 01 February 2020. The aim of the day was to
create a fun environment where mothers and daughters learn more about the game as well as to create
Netball awareness amongst our pupils and parents. We had over 50 grade 1, 2 and 3 pupils and some of their
parents participating. Thank you to all staff, parents and pupils who made this event possible. With the success
of the event, I am sure that this will become an annual occurrence.

THE BOOGIE EXTRAVAGANZA COMES TO KIMBERLEY THIS VALENTINE’S DAY
Date: Friday 14 and Saturday, 15 February 2020
Time: 8pm
Venue: The Northern Cape Theatre
Price: R100 p.p.
Duration: 2 hours, plus 20-minute interval
Memory lane has never sounded (or looked) this good! Imagine a real trip down memory lane straight to the
groovy disco and power ballad era of the 70s and 80s. Or, what about the time when Motown reigned
supreme? And this year, throw in the 90s, and maybe even the now.
The theme for this year is FUNKY RED AND WHITE (for Valentine’s Day) with a best dressed male and female to
be crowned on the night of 14th February.
The Boogie Extravaganza is a party you do not want to miss!
Tickets are available at Reception (Admin building) from Monday, 3 February 2020.
