“Dress A Girl”Our year is off to a great start, but we are still hoping
to get more ladies to come out and join us as we move toward our first Dress A Girl “Bag and Tag” of 2017 scheduled for May. Please plan to attend the next meeting on April 5 to learn more about the “Bag and Tag” and see the beautiful dresses and dolls that have already been made by our members.
Did you know that Dress A Girl Around the World (of which we are a part) has distributed over 700,000 dresses since they began in October 2009! Our little group here in Heritage Hills has contributed almost 600 of those little dresses and we hope to continue our efforts for many years to come. The dresses are easy and FUN to make. You need only minimal sewing skills to make a dress and no sewing skills to be part of the team making our beautiful little dolls. So, no excuses! Come join in our fun.
At our last meeting on March 1 the group decided that we will not be able to participate in the Days for Girls project that sews items for reusable feminine protection. However, if anyone in the community would like more information about getting involved with this very worthwhile project, please contact Judy Ricaud at 352-432-5795.
Marie DeLucia and her team have been busy tracing and cutting out new patterns for the A-line dress design. If anyone would like a pattern please contact Marie at 908-421-0104. Dress patterns for L, M, S and XS are currently available.
Lastly, please watch for information regarding the next performance by the HH Theater Group in May and plan to attend. Dress A Girl provides the concessions for these performances and all proceeds from the concession go directly to the group for purchase of fabric, thread and materials for making our dresses and dolls.
As always, we thank the HH community for all the support we receive! This is such a generous community – giving money, support and love. Thank you!!
Our next meeting is planned forApril 5 at 10 AM
in the Toscana Ballroom.

HappyHookers
Our Heritage Hills Happy Hookers meet in the Library on Tuesdays from 1-3 PM. This is a social group that enjoys working on their own projects as well as projects for donations to various charities. The group is self-guided with various skills of crochet, knitting and needlework. If you run into problems on a project, there are women (we welcome men as well) here with years of experience and expertise who can help you out. There is no one in charge, so come, stay awhile and leave when you wish. We keep a roster (thanks to Mary Becker) of the people who are in the group regularly and wish to be included in the list. We anticipate one holiday party a year just to have fun and be social.
For those interested in donating their projects, there are some “members” working on projects and I’ll be getting additional information for those interested in different projects for various charities of your choosing. If anyone has contact information on local charities who want or need handmade items, please let me know so I can get the information out to our group. If you would like to talk to someone about our group, please contact me.

I’m Ryan White, a licensed sales representative in Clermont, FL. When it comes to Medicare, one size definitely does not fit all. What works well for your neighbor may not be the best fit for you. And what met your needs last year might not be the best fit this year. Now’s the time to explore your choices so you can enroll in a plan with confidence.
I’m here to help. As a licensed sales representative, I know the ins and outs of Medicare. And I know how to make it easier for you to understand, as well.

Caribbean and Friends ClubCruise on St. John’s RiverA group of about 25 members of Heritage Hills
Caribbean and Friends Club went on St. John’s River Cruise on March 7. This was the group’s second tour of the river but this time it was to see the manatees. The manatees did not show themselves as the group had hoped and we only saw their movements below the surface of the water. The group saw plenty of activity on the water from water birds, turtles, some alligators, and even humans kayaking /canoeing and fishing on the river.

Travel FriendsGroup
Paula Healy from Group Travel Specialties (GTS) was the guest speaker for our March 1 meeting. This Kissimmee travel agency works with the Kings Ridge Travel Club as well as the one from Summit Green. They are willing to work with Heritage Hills Travel Friends - planning a club event of our own, including us in trips planned by the two other communities or working with us as individuals.
Those attending the recent meeting could choose from a table full of flyers for 2017 trips in addition to an overview handout listing a when, what and where Calendar of Events. Contact Susan for a copy of the Calendar of Events or to peek at a file of one of each of the flyers.
Paula mentioned some helpful info concerning travel with GTS:
• Prices include transportation & tips, plus meals, tax & tips.• Cruise prices are for medium price cabins but you can go up or down a level.• Shows are mainly for orchestra seats, sometimes mezzanine.• GTS picks up at our Clubhouse if 12 or more are going, otherwise at Kings Ridge.
Our Most Recent TripThe February trip to Blue Springs to see the manatees
was great fun. The food was fantastic! We saw birds one doesn’t usually see on the 2½-hour boat ride. A good day trip only an hour away.

Jim Lobbfrom the
Passion Flower Chapter of theFlorida Native Plant Society
will presentFlorida Native Grasses & Shrubs
Wednesday, April 19 • 3:30-4:30 PMClubhouse Ballroom
Native grasses and shrubs can be easily integrated into our present Heritage Hills garden beds and landscapes. They have the advantages of being low-maintenance, as well as resistant to drought, disease and pests, while at the same time being attractive in our yards year-round. They provide food and habitat for birds, butterflies and wildlife, too.
Our speaker will once again be Jim Lobb, native plant consultant and collector of Florida native plants from right here in Clermont. His presentation on native flowers was well-attended in February. His program will include slides and a handout or two. All are welcome!
It’s Time for Wine
We serve no wine before it’s time - it’s time! On April 28, the Gardens and Groves Group is pleased to invite all HH residents to a “Taste of the Hills”. During Wine-Down, some of the new wines from the 2016 harvest will be available for sampling.
Come and taste what your neighbors have been creating. Our local winemakers, using grapes from our very own vineyard, have developed some new recipes, creating some new tastes. These new methods have also allowed them to make larger quantities of wine which will allow the GGG to host two different tastings during the year. The samples will be larger, so please bring your own glass and the vintners will make certain you get a substantial amount.
We are asking for a minimum donation of $1 per person. That contribution will go towards the wine production. Each batch of wine costs our resident wine-makers approximately $75 per batch, which they have been (are) self-funding. So, your generosity will be much appreciated and put to good use…and who knows what you might be able to take home!
So please join us on April 28 to try the new wines. Your fellow, neighborhood “winers” look forward to sharing the fruits of their labors with you!

HOMESELLERS’ ADVICE Should you have an open house? Ninety-five percent of homebuyers use the Internet to shop for a home, according to the National Associa-tion of REALTORS.® If homebuyers can see your home through multiple photos, videos and virtual tours, why bother with an open house?
An open house can catch buyers early in the home-search process when they’re driving around neighbor-hoods and getting first impressions. They often choose several homes to drive by, and an open house could tip them favorably toward your neighborhood and home. Open houses allow buyers to view homes without obligation, and an open house helps them form their preferences, compromises and deal-breakers. An open house is only effective if it shows the home to its fullest advantage. Deep cleaning, de-cluttering, de-personalizing, and staging are imperative, just as they are for showings by appointment. Your pets should be out of the home for the day, and you should make plans to be gone while your home is open to the public. That said, less than nine percent of buyers chose the home they bought from yard signs and open houses. Instead, 90 percent used the services of a real estate agent, which means an open house is only one piece in the overall marketing plan for selling your home. Thinking of selling? Contact me and we will make an open house part of the marketing plan!

Natural SolutionsFor Healthy Living
Are you ready to live more naturally and possibly feel better, look better, smell better, clean better and eat better? Start by coming to the NEW Natural Solutions For Healthy Living meeting on the first Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2 PM in the ballroom.
Synthetic (man-made) chemicals in food & beverages, cosmetics, skincare & cleaning products accumulate in the body causing illness and allergies over time. Hundreds of diseases can be linked to environmental toxins.
If you are seeking to live a more natural lifestyle, free of unnecessary chemicals, this is the group for you. This will be a SUPPORT and LEARN DISCUSSION group. Everyone can share information and suggestions. In April, we will talk about safe and effective cleaning products. You don’t have to sacrifice your health to have a clean home! Come and be a part of this discussion.
Our next meeting isApril 5 at 1 PM in the ballroom.
Dates and topics for the rest of the year are listed below. These meetings can be a great way for you to support and encourage other Heritage Hills residents who want to be healthier or stay healthy naturally.

Inflammation and theAnti-Inflammatory Diet
Many health problems are being blamed on inflammation. There is a difference between the effects of acute and chronic inflammation. Many articles are being written about inflammation and the “anti-inflammatory diet”. But, not everything you read may be true.
What have you heard or read? Would you like to have some help making sense of all the information that is available?
Come to Healthy Hintson April 11 at 11:30 AM
in the Toscana Ballroomif you want to know more.
Topics will include: • What inflammation is. • How your body reacts to inflammation. • Risks of chronic inflammation. • What you can do to decrease inflammation - including the “anti-inflammatory diet”.

The almost 150 players who participated in the 2017 Winter Bocce Morning League had a lot of fun. Last summer we had 109 players in the summer league and hope to have more this summer. I am now setting up and organizing the 2017 summer evening league.
We expect a larger sign-up than last summer, therefore the Heritage Hills 2017 Summer Evening Bocce League season will probably consist of four evening leagues. If there aren’t enough players for 3 daily leagues we will condense it to 3 leagues. The league will start on June 5, June 6, June 7 and June 8 (if a 4th day is needed). The regular league season will be 7-9 weeks long, depending on how many teams sign up. This will allow each team in each daily league to play each other one time. The regular weekly league play will be followed by playoffs.
Do not worry if you haven’t played before as it is an easy game, and a fun league. Before the league starts we will have some learning, training, and practice sessions for beginners so you will be ready for the start of the season. Based on how many teams sign-up, and how flexible everyone is, we will create a schedule to accommodate as many teams and players as possible.
For ease of your personal scheduling, the league day that you are assigned will remain the same for the whole season and not alternate. We will do our best to work this out for everyone, but the final determination will depend on how many teams sign up.
Sign-ups will start on April 3 and will end on May 5. The sign-up sheets will be available in the clubhouse on a clipboard near the bulletin boards. PLEASE: Carefully print only the team captain’s name, the best contact phone #, the best e-mail address and the # of players on your team. The captain will then be contacted for more information for the other players on your team. For days available please be as flexible as possible and check as many days as possible, so that we can accommodate as many players and teams as possible, and be able to balance the teams playing each day. If you or any player on your team is a beginner please check the beginner box.
If you are out of town during the sign-up period, but will be available to play in the summer league, you can sign-up via e-mail. Just e-mail to Eric Sorkin [email protected] with the team captain’s name, the best contact phone #, the best e-mail address and # of players on your team, and whether or not there are any beginners on your team. You will then be contacted for more information on the other players on your team. In addition please let me know which days your team is available to play. There will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and
2017 Heritage Hills EveningSummer Bocce League
Thursday leagues. Once you are assigned a league day it will be the same day of the week for the season. Please be as flexible as possible.
Games will start at 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM and ending at 7:25 PM and 8:25 PM respectively each league day. Each game is a 55 minute game, with the winning team being the team with the most points at the end of 55 minutes. The schedule will alternate starting times for each team between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM, but the day that you play will remain the same all season.
Teams can be 2 or 4 players. A lot of people prefer 4 so that if 1 or 2 of your team members are not available on a particular week the other teammates can still play and the game will not have to be rescheduled. Teams of 4 really helps.
If you are an individual looking for a team just signup as a team of 1 and we will work on creating teams of individual players or add you to a team that needs another player. If you are a team of 2, but would prefer to be on a team of 4, just note that on the sign-up sheet.
Alternates – If you want to participate, but can’t make an every week commitment, please sign-up and note that you want to be an alternate. When a team needs 1 or 2 players, they call alternates to check if you are available to play that week.
Please realize that games may have to be rescheduled due to weather or other issues, therefore by signing up, you are agreeing to be flexible to arrange to make up these games with the other team.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND DETAILSWILL BE SENT BY E-MAIL AFTER SIGN-UP
BEFORE THE LEAGUE STARTS.
Thank you,Eric Sorkin

TRIVIA NIGHT The first Trivia Night of 2017 was held on Friday, March 10 in the Toscano Ballroom. We had ten tables and almost 100 people participating. After a hard-fought contest the grand prize winners for the night were the Native New Yorkers! If you happen to meet these smart folks around the neighborhood, give them a pat on the back and thumbs up for a job well done; Maddy & Bob Schnebel, Lydia & Joe Restivo, Susan & John Richmond, Rosemarie Wilburn and Myra Levine. Good job guys and gals! Enjoy those solid gold plastic trophies!
There were lots of groans, moans and “Oh no, how could we miss that” to be heard during the evening. But, mostly there was lots of laughter and good fun!
Please watch for more information about the next Trivia Night planned for sometime in June 2017 in the Dress A Girl articles in the Olive & Grape. You, too, can be the proud owner of a solid gold plastic trophy!

Heritage HillsLibrary
Our Library is open to all residents. Come sit down and relax and pick up a book to read. All books in our Library have been donated by our residents. During the past several years, we have been able to accumulate quite a selection of books.
What we have found is our residents are interested in books of fiction by popular authors of the last 20 years.
With that in mind, we would appreciate your donations of books of fiction from 2000 on as we have space limitations. New to our Library is the magazine rack making it easy to view the magazines that we currently have. Magazine donations should be for the current month.
Feel free to ask anyone of the volunteer librarians for suggestions regarding your reading preferences. Your volunteer librarians are Helen Wunderlich, Debbie Running and Gail Steinberg.
Thank you all for your contributions to the library.

April book:A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler
Don’t we have enough of our own domestic drama? Maybe. But it’s sometimes a helpful diversion to read about some other family’s.
Author Anne Tyler is known for her talented storytelling about families. She has 20 popular books to her credit. And at age 70, she has announced that she has written her last one. Maybe, maybe not. But for sure, A Spool of Blue Thread is the Heritage Hills Book Club selection for April.
The novel tells the story of the of the middle-class Whitshank family through four generations in their “lovingly worn” house in Baltimore. Every family has its lies and secrets, unraveling and fraying. Let’s see what we think about the Whitshanks. Tyler mixes in comedy with domestic drama, too, so hopefully we’ll be turning pages all month.
Have you read any of Tyler’s other books including The Accidental Tourist, Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant, Breathing Lessons or her first novel, If Morning Ever Comes? Let us know what you think about them, too.
Come join the discussion at our next meeting. Don’t forget that the 2017 book list is on the Clubs and Group pages of the Olive & Grape each month.
