Did You Know?

Today is the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. The feast is intended to proclaim in a striking manner Christ’s royalty over individuals, families, governments, and nations. We must recognize Jesus as the center of history. Jesus Christ is the Universal King and Eternal Priest. Even when all things seem lost, we can appeal to Our Lord like the good thief did.

In the Catechism (CCC 786) we learn how Christ exercises His Kingship:

• “He exercises His Kingship by drawing all men to Himself…”

• “Christ King and Lord of the uni-verse, made Himself the servant of all…”

• “Christ allows us to share in His royal office… to reign is to serve Him.”

CHURCH COMMUNITY

Egan Warming Center During the winter, several churches host overnight shelters when night-time temperatures dip below 30 degrees. Volunteers can choose among many kinds of tasks including shopping for food, preparing and serving dinner and breakfast, checking in guests, providing overnight supervision setting up in the afternoon and cleaning up in the morning. The decision to activate shelters is made 72 hours before opening, so volunteers can plan their schedules. Each offer to volunteer is for a specific date and time, so long term commitment is not required.
