    Fear Not...

Is there one thing you fear? Some might think of a diminishing job market. Others wouldsay perhaps the fear of losing their home. There are many things out there that willcause fear. There is fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of rejection... the list goes on

and on. Fear is not from God. In fact, Paul wrote to Timothy, God does not give you thespirit of fear...

Sometimes having a change in leadership may bring fear. When a new President enters office some havehigh hopes and dreams of what he or she will accomplish while others are fearful of what might be done(the unexpected). Throughout history we see in the Bible where Gods people had fear when they were notsure of what was to come next. Moses led the people out of the bondage of Egypt and while in the desertthey grumbled because they missed the familiarity of their former land and they wanted him to know theywere not happy of this new change and uncertainty now confronting them. For forty years the peoplemarched through the desert under Moses lead and through the years they learned to trust in him and sup-port what God was asking him to do.

There always comes a time when the familiarity of our daily life is challenged. The question is, How will we

respond? While change is a constant factor in life, some people have a greater capacity for change thanothers. Some people are like pioneers and are willing to accept whatever comes their way, no matter howfearful it may seem. Others are early followers who take the step of accepting change because they seegood will come. Lastly, there are those who will get stuck in the routine of what they have come to knowand that which is changing before them may cause them grief and despair. These are folks who need en-couragement to move along and to be assured over time, everything will be ok.

Moses realized this to be true with his people. He had faithfully led them out of the bondage of Egypt wherethey were slaves, maneuvered them through the twists and turns of the desert all for the sole purpose ofhelping them reach what God had prepared: The Promised Land. The time came when Moses journeywas complete. The people had not yet gotten to their final destination but he knew God had tapped anotheron the shoulder to complete the task. Joshua assumed the role upon Moses death. The people fearedwhat would come next. Moses had been familiar. He had journeyed with them and now he was no more.

The story is a powerful one. In the Book of Joshua God says to the new leader, Moses is no more. Youand all of my people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give you. I will give youevery place you set your foot, just as I promised Moses... Be strong and courageous... Be very strong andcourageous... Joshua 1:1-6 (selectively)

Even though we are impacted with change that comes in our life we need to remember Gods promise:Fear not! Heres what I find to be totally amazing.. Those words, Fear not are mentioned 365 times inthe Bible. That is one for every day of the year. Isnt God an awesome God?

    Grace and Peace,

    Pastor Bob
