St. Paul Youth & Adult’s Missions Trip to the Dominican Republic July 22nd through 29th

YOU can be a part of this exciting event even if you are unable to travel with us to Jimani, Dominican Republic.

Each youth and adult is responsible for their own cost — $750 for an adult and $450 for a youth. Spaces are still available if you already have your passport.

If you are unable to take the trip, any monetary contribution will help someone else or we are accepting medical items to take with us.

The Chadashha Foundation with whom we will be serving has given us a list from their doctor of items lacking in their pharmacy. Donations of these items would be a great blessing and can be left in the of-fice workroom if labeled for the DR Missions Trip. Generic brands are fine, but we are not able to accept anything that is expired.

If you have any questions about the trip please contact Bobby or Alison Van Duyne at 584-8165 ext. 226 or visit us at facebook.com/lighthouseyouthministry or www.lighthouseyouthministry.com

Happy Father’s Day to each and every “Dad” - May you be blessed as you have been a blessing !

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Sonora Dodd of Spokane, Washington, first proposed the idea of a father's day in 1909. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart, a widowed Civil War veteran who was raising six children on a farm by himself. The first Father's Day celebration occurred on June 19, 1910, the month of Smart's birth.

In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation designating the third Sunday in June as Father's Day. President Richard M. Nixon signed the public law that made Father's Day permanent in 1972.

Father's Day has become a day to honor your father, but also a day to honor all men who act as father figures.

A FINAL MOMENT OF REFLECTION

“It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” Galatians 2:20

I hope you have come to see the Lordship of Christ during my ministry. It wasn’t about me, but the Lordship of Christ! After much prayer, thought and consultation, I asked for retirement from St. Paul in 2011. I don’t feel my ministry is over but I personally feel this is the right path to take — even if I have to push the grocery cart at times. I need time for prayer and reflection about the years ahead. It is not easy for Cathy and me to leave. The Pastors and Staff of this church have been outstanding to us and have become our good friends. What a great congregation and leaders to know and love! We have been delighted living here and serving as your pastor. The Bishop has the best interest of St. Paul at heart and is providing outstanding ministerial leadership to carry on the work and spiritual growth of St. Paul. Rev. Bob Martin and Rev. B.J. Foster will receive our prayers and genuine appreciation when they officially begin this ministry on July 1st. Our new address wil be 110 Honeysuckle Lane, Maggie Valley, North Carolina 28751. Our home in the Smokie Mountains near Asheville is a destination we have joyfully anticipated for many years. Thank you for three of the most meaningful, beautiful, and deeply spiritual years of our lives. Your love, prayers and support for us are very much appreciated. God bless you! In Christ,

Dr. Bert Blomquist
