The Transfiguration of Our Lord

Prayer of the Day: O God, in the transfiguration of your Son you confirmed the mysteries of the faith by the witness of Moses and Elijah, and in the voice from the cloud you foreshadowed our adoption as your children: make us, with Christ, heirs of your glory, and bring us to enjoy its fullness; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Amen.

Readings & Psalm

Offertory Envelopes: Now available in the narthex. St Paul’s Direct Debit: St Paul’s Anglican Church Canterbury - BSB 633 000 A/C 1191 99941.

Daniel 7.9-10, 13-14 9 As I watched,

thrones were set in place, and an Ancient One took his throne; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels were burning fire. 10

A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand thousand served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him. The court sat in judgement, and the books were opened. 13

As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being coming with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the Ancient One and was presented before him. 14

To him was given dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed.

Responsorial Psalm: 97 (insert)

Child Safe: We take children’s safety seriously at St Paul’s. If you have any concerns as to the safety of a child in the parish please see Susanne or one of the wardens; Andrew Flint, Jeremy Bishop and Liz Olie.

2 Peter 1.16-21 16

For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty.

17 For he received

honour and glory from God the Father when that voice was con-veyed to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, ‘This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.’

18 We ourselves heard

this voice come from heaven, while we were with him on the ho-ly mountain.

19 So we have the prophetic message more fully

confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

20 First of all you must understand this, that

no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21

because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

Mark 9.2-10 2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John,

and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them,

3 and his clothes became dazzling

white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. 4 And there

appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Je-sus.

5 Then Peter said to Jesus, ‘Rabbi, it is good for us to be

here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.’

6 He did not know what to say, for they were

terrified. 7 Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud

there came a voice, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!’ 8 Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with

them any more, but only Jesus. 9 As they were coming down the

mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

10 So

they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead could mean.

Want to learn to sing? Why not join the choir!

Singing has many benefits for our health and wellbeing as well as creating beautiful music together in a group. Singing strengthens our immune system, is a natural anti-depressant, lowers stress levels (we need that!) improves our mental alert-ness, is uplifting spiritually and you get to meet great people who enjoy singing to-gether! Is this something you would like to do or you know of someone who would enjoy singing? Why not talk to Trevor our Director of Music and come and make melody with us!
