CAFOD (St Helen’s) pray-fast-give

Last two weeks’ donations were £456.00 and £165.50. Thank you so much. What difference do your donations make? Aside from emergency aid, development funding takes time to impact on daily life. The 2014 Lenten appeal focussed on Kenya. Donations channelled through Caritas Maralal paid for the establishment of farming schools in rural areas. The majority of students were women, wives and mothers, men having gone to the major coastal cities to seek paid work. One such was Naomi. On completing the course the students were given a hoe, watering can and shovel. Together with the application of knowledge about manure, lime application and crop spacing, allied to communal improvements to retain water this has made a massive difference. Naomi also participates in a chicken-raising project which provides good sources of protein. Over 450,000 people have benefited from this programme
