Thanks so much for your prayers and practical offers of support! The Shop is about to undergo some basic maintenance work after Easter, and volunteers are working towards getting the doors open once again as soon as possible. You can help in two ways! We will need to completely restock the Shop and if you are having a spring clean we are urgently looking for donations of ladies, men's and children's clothing, bric a brac, small electrical goods (in working order) children's toys, costume jewellery, soft furnishing and any other saleable goods. Items can be dropped off at the Shop on one day only at the moment from 10am - 2pm on Thursday 25th April. Further dates will be available but please drop CAFOD a line on [email protected] for details. CAFOD would be delighted for more volunteers to help in the Shop! Help to raise money for local pilgrims to travel to Lourdes by Jumbulance with Across. Voluntary bar available, please bring your own nibbles. This year there are 4 groups travelling, two from Liverpool, and one each from Chester and Wirral. Nurses and helpers volunteer their time to support our VIPs throughout the pilgrimage allowing people who couldn’t normally travel to take part. Our quiz master Fred will take us through entertaining rounds of both general knowledge and more challenging specialist subjects to get the grey matter ticking over. There will also be a raffle with prizes that money just can’t buy. (Raffle prizes gratefully received in St Helen’s church office or call Sarah on 07949237251 and I’ll come and pick them up) For more information about Across please visit the website across.org.uk. If you or a relative/friend would like to travel as a VIP or helper, please email [email protected]

Pro-Life Chain: Friday 26th April, 4.30 to 6pm Gather in car park at SS Peter & Paul’s at 4.15pm All welcome to stand with us in support of the unborn

CAFOD (St Helen’s) pray-fast-give When we send donations to national headquarters we receive an acknowledgement and this usually contains some news regarding action on one of the programmes which is being funded. In a recent acknowledgement we were told of Cynthia in Zimbabwe who has planted a CAFOD funded vegetable garden. She said, “A lot has changed since the garden was planted. Our nutrition is better, we have more diverse food to eat, we are better at preparing our food and our health is better. I can’t imagine life without the garden now.” We do not know how the effects of the recent cyclone have affected Cynthia but last week’s donations of £253 added to those made previously mean that we have been able to send a further cheque for £500 towards this work. This totals £2955 since Family Fast Day. Thank you for your continuing practical response to the needs of those in the developing world.

The Newman Association is holding its annual Spring Lunch on 5th May 2019 at the West Lancs Golf Club at 12.30pm for 1.00pm, comprising a two-course carvery and sweet trolley, priced at £21 per head. The meal is not just for members but is open to parishioners and their relatives and friends to share the lunch. If you would like to attend, please contact either Peter Firth (07879892555 or [email protected]) or John Potts (07889 841096 or [email protected]) by latest Mon April 29th.

EASTER CARD CAMPAIGN, 2019 Many thanks to all the parishioners who contributed Easter cards for our fellow Christians in the Holy Land. They are on their way now, but any stragglers will be sent after them. Wishing you all a joyous Easter from your Justice & Peace group.
