Blessing of the Animals St. Francis Sunday

October 1 at 5:30PM

October 2 at 8:00 and 10:30AM

Bring your pets to worship for a blessing.

ALL are welcome to stay for worship.

Collection for Hillside SPCA

“For it is in giving that we receive.”

To help care for God’s creation, we asked Hillside

SPCA what items they currently need. Please

consider putting these items aside as you clean out

your closets. Bring them to worship on the weekend

of 10/1 and 10/2 to be donated to Hillside:

Clean and Used: towels, blankets, sheets,

bathroom rugs, pillow cases, tennis balls, old

leashes, collars, kitty litter pans, dog or cat dishes,

cat houses or perches

Any brand of cleaning or pet products: bleach,

soap, detergent, cat litter, small animal bedding

Food: wet/dry dog, wet/dry cat, rabbit, animal

treats

We will be splitting the donation of food between

Hillside and the Orwigsburg Food Pantry.

Someone will be outside the church to help you with

your donation.

As we bring our pets to be blessed, we pray for

loving homes for all animals!

When do we catch a meal?

Any meal?

Do we ever pause and consider how that meal

arrived on the table?

Do we ever consider how God continues to create

and make things grow?

Don’t you feel that a Sunday dedicated to a pause is

a good idea?

Make a Difference Day/ Sleepy-time Snacks

The Sunday school classes will be

participating in “Make a Difference Day”

on October 23rd by making Sleepy-time

Snack bags for the children who use the

Orwigsburg Food Pantry. We are kindly

asking for snack donations of juice boxes,

granola bars, gummy fruit snacks, and

individually wrapped cracker and cookie

packs. A donation basket will be in the

Gathering Room. This is a wonderful

opportunity to teach our children how to

help those less fortunate and to be kind to

our neighbors. Thank you for your

generous support!

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Sundays at 9:15 AM in the Gathering Room.

Elementary/ Early Middle School Class

This month’s Sunday school lessons will focus

on two themes, “Built on a Rock” and “Psalm

23.” Pastor is looking for guest teacher

volunteers (the lesson plan will be provided),

so please see him if you’re interested in

teaching a lesson.

October 2 and 9 – “Built on a Rock”

October 18 and 30 – “The Lord is My Shepherd”

October 23 – Sleepy-time snacks project

Late Middle/ High School Class

Meets in the gathering room at 9:15 AM.

(Behind the worship area)

After gathering activities/ music they move to

their classrooms. The topics will follow the

“Faith Lens” program with newly produced

lessons every week about real life events and

how they relate to the Scripture that you’ll

hear in church. Please feel free to drop in

some Sunday morning and see what this new

program is all about.

Adult Sunday School

“Honoring Our Neighbor’s Faith”

A study of Christian Denominations and

Non-Christian Traditions.

9:15 AM in the Parlor. The first meeting of the Adult Sunday School took

place on September 19. Good conversation flowed as

we planned for future meetings. Using the Honoring

Our Neighbor’s Faith text, we will thoughtfully and

respectfully explore many faiths through discussion,

films, guest speakers, and maybe even a field trip!

Attendees voted to start off the series with the

exploration of the following faiths:

October 2………Buddhism

October 9……….Mennonite

October 16……...Jehovah’s Witness

Drop in for any class. No preparation is necessary.

Expect lively discussions that will help us clarify our

own faith tradition and begin to make thoughtful

comparisons with others.

multiple fundraisers, so please feel free to ask them

questions or show them support with this endeavor.

Current fundraisers include:

Prayer of St. Francis Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is error, the truth;

Where there is doubt, the faith;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light;

And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,

Grant that I may not so much seek

To be consoled, as to console;

To be understood, as to understand;

To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.
