We welcome our homilist Fr. Jeff Eppler, who will be speaking to us about adoration this weekend. The wise men came to adore the Lord on bended knee. Will you consider spending an hour with Jesus once a week, face to face, in adoration? This time is so precious. Just you and Jesus in a room together with time to talk, time to pray, time to praise, time to reflect, time to listen, time just to be with Him. Think about it! Think about the grac-

es and strength you will receive. Think about the blessings. Think about the benefits. Is it worth taking an hour of your life each week to improve your friendship with Creator and King? I say "YES!”.

Extended adoration beginning in January Starting next weekend, we will move to having adoration 7 days a week, in our parish, with the additional times of 8 AM - 10 AM on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Please pray & ask God if you are called to commit to one of these new hours.

Epiphany Home Blessing

We invite you take a piece of Blessed Chalk home from the altar area after Mass today, to bless the door-

ways of your home. The Epiphany of the Lord is traditionally the day our homes are blessed with blessed

chalk. In the prayer we are asking God’s blessing on our homes, offices, kitchens, bathrooms, etc., and

upon all who enter these rooms.

This is done by praying for God’s blessings on our homes by marking the door post with chalk, an incarna-

tional image, reminding us of the dust of the earth from which we were made. We mark the main door of

our home with the initials of the Magi and the numerals of the New Year, connected with the crosses:

20 + C + M + B + 20

(this is what the top of the door looks like when it is done)

The initials remind us of the names of the three Wise Men who brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and

myrrh to the child Jesus and the Holy Family: Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar. The letters also stand for

the Latin motto: Christus mansionem benedicat which means, “May Christ bless this house.” In the book of

Exodus, the Israelites marked their doors with blood so that the Lord would pass over their homes; but in

this ritual, we mark our doors with chalk as a sign that we invite God’s presence and blessing on whatever

room we mark in our homes and offices.

How to Do the Blessing:

Begin with the Sign of the Cross and recite an Our Father.

(the following prayer is said while the top of the door is marked in the order shown)

The three Wise Men,

(As you write this) (say this)

C Caspar,

M Melchior,

B and Balthasar followed the star of God’s Son who became man

20 two thousand

20 twenty years ago.

+ May Christ

+ bless our home, office, kitchen, bedroom, etc.

+ and all who enter through this door

+ and remain with us throughout the New Year. Amen.
