Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time First Reading 1 KGS 19:16B, 19-21 The LORD said to Elijah: "You shall anoint Elisha, son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah, as prophet to succeed you." Elijah set out and came upon Elisha, son of Shaphat, as he was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen; he was following the twelfth. Elijah went over to him and threw his cloak over him. Elisha left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, "Please, let me kiss my father and mother goodbye, and I will follow you." Elijah answered, "Go back! Have I done anything to you?" Elisha left him, and taking the yoke of oxen, slaughtered them; he used the plowing equipment for fuel to boil their flesh, and gave it to his people to eat. Then Elisha left and followed Elijah as his attendant. Responsorial Psalm PS 16 R. You are my inheritance, O Lord Second Reading GAL 5:1, 13-18 Brothers and sisters: For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery. For you were called for freedom, brothers and sisters. But do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; rather, serve one another through love. For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. But if you go on biting and devouring one another, beware that you are not consumed by one another. I say, then: live by the Spirit and you will certainly not gratify the desire of the flesh. For the flesh has desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you may not do what you want. But if you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Gospel LK 9:51-62 When the days for Jesus' being taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem, and he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his reception there, but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?" Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they journeyed to another village. As they were proceeding on their journey someone said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head." And to another he said, "Follow me." But he replied, "Lord, let me go first and bury my father." But he answered him, "Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God." And another said, "I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home." To him Jesus said, "No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God."

LITURGY…LIVE IT! (4) LITURGY OF THE MASS - PART I: THE INTRODUCTORY RITES “God has bestowed upon his people the gift of song. God dwells within each human person, in the place where music takes its source. Indeed, God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises.” United States Conference of Catholic Bishops document: Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship

THE ENTRANCE CHANT OR SONG Last week we gathered as one and welcomed each other. After the entire liturgical assembly has gathered, we now sing an Entrance chant or song as the procession with the priest, deacon, and ministers enter church. The purpose of this chant “is to open the celebration, foster the unity of those who have been gathered, introduce their thoughts to the mystery of the liturgical time or festivity, and accompany the procession of the Priest and ministers.” General Instruction of the Roman Missal

In other words, the Gathering Song is meant to GATHER us together as one. It is the role of the assembly to sing the Gathering Song. We are not at mass to be entertained by the Music Ministers, but to join as one voice in praising God. One cannot find anything more festive and more joyful in sacred celebrations than a “whole assembly expressing its faith and devotion in song “ (MS, art.16.). LET US JOYFULLY GATHER IN SACRED SONG TO THE LORD! Do you have a question about Liturgy? Please email your question to Connie Wilson at [email protected] or drop a note in the collection basket marked “Liturgy Live It! Question” attention Connie.

LITURGIA ... ¡VIVA!

" atención a Connie.

Foster US & Global Immigration Services KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: It is imperative to know your constitutional rights during this time of uncertainty and fear as the Department of Homeland Security implements the recently issued Executive Orders of President Trump on Interior Enforcement and Border Security.

Under the new policy directives, almost anyone who is undocumented is subject to removal (deportation) from the United States. Also, under the new policy directives, local and state law enforcement are empowered to act as im-migration agents to investigate, identify, arrest, detain, transport and conduct searches of aliens to enforce immi-gration law.

However, the 5th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees to everyone who is physically present in the United States certain protections of due process under the law, the right against self-incrimination, and the right to counsel. These protections apply to U.S. citizens and aliens alike, whether legal or undocumented, unless you are an arriving alien seeking admission to the United States. For example, aliens seeking admission at a U.S. border generally do not have a right to counsel. Under the new guidelines, undocumented individuals do have the right to a hearing before an immigration judge unless they have been present in the United States for less than two years. The consequences of not knowing your rights can result in your deportation from the United States, which often-times is more devastating than incarceration.

The following are your rights to assert if U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or the police or sheriff comes knocking at your house or workplace: • You have the right to contact your Consulate for assistance upon being detained by U.S. authorities; • You have the right to remain silent and refuse to speak to an ICE or law enforcement officer; • You have the right not to answer any questions regarding your place of birth, immigration status and/or how you entered the United States. Tell the officer that you want to remain silent until you speak with a lawyer; • You have the right to speak to a lawyer and the right to make a phone call; • If ICE or law enforcement comes to your house, you have the right to demand a warrant be made available be fore opening the door. You do not have to open your door to ICE or law enforcement without a warrant. The warrant must, on its face, be signed by a Judge and contain your name and address; • You have the right to inspect and review the warrant. If the ICE officer states that he has one, request that it be placed under the door for your examination; and • You have the right not to sign anything until you speak to a lawyer; and, if you do sign, make sure you under stand what you are signing as you may be waiving your rights to a hearing before an Immigration Judge and possible defenses against removal (deportation) from the United States. TIPS: • Carry with you at all times the contact information of an immigration lawyer; • Stay calm and do not be pressured by the ICE or law enforcement officer to sign any document without first consulting with an attorney; • If you speak English, even if very elementary, speak to the ICE officer in English instead of Spanish or in your native lan-guage since doing so will possibly have a better outcome; • Formulate a plan of action in the event of an apprehension being arrested and detained by ICE or law enforcement so that you and your family members can immediately respond to the crisis, including: o Make plans for child care and possible guardianship for your child; o Execute a power of attorney so that your relative or friend can act on your behalf; o Collect documents which unequivocally show your physical presence in the United States for the past two (2) years; o Make sure a family member has your immigration attorney’s phone number and contacts the attorney immediately; o Be aware that your relative or friend knows he can look for your name, if detained, on the ICE detainee website at: www.locator.ice.gov. o If you are detained by ICE or CBP or a law enforcement officer acting as an immigration officer: Request a hearing before an Immigration Judge and immigration bond; If you fear returning to your home country, tell the officer, and request a credible fear interview with an asylum officer. o If you do talk to the officer, preferably with an immigration attorney present, tell the truth.

Foster US & Global Immigration Services

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Living Our Faith… THIRTEEN SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Parish Social Ministry

Jesus turns to the direction of Jerusalem in today’s Gospel with all the implications of death and resurrection.

Everyday is a new threshold for his followers. We too must realize what it implies when we say we will follow

him. Our mission is to know what is expected and still say “I will follow you!” He warns those three followers

telling them that He has “nowhere to rest his head,” we must let the “dead bury the dead” letting go of our family

obligations, and not turning back, even to say farewell. This sounds harsh but what it tells us is that we must fol-

low with dedication to the call and perseverance to remaining on task. The issues of our time are also pointing us

literally at times to Jerusalem and to taking a stand regardless of what we think our families, friends, society, and

politics want of us. If we follow, we must be steadfast in following Christ! CALL FOR ACTION!

As you probably already know, the different Catholic Charities from the Dioceses in our southern boarder are

asking for help. As you have seen on the news, there is a great need. I, at times, feel helpless but I also feel called

to do something. The “they should not…..” are many but so are the many human needs. As a follower, I need to

do something to help their suffering! Politically, I have already made my view known to my representatives. I

now need to do something physically. If you feel like I do and believe in the principals of Catholic Social

Teaching, I invite you to come and share ideas of what we can do to help the boarder dioceses minister to

the needs of our brothers and sisters. We will have an open meeting on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 10:00

AM. In the school Science Lab.

Viviendo nuestra fe… DECIMO TERCER DOMINGO / TIEMPO ORDINARIO Ministerio social

Políticamente, ya he
